Renault's contract with Red Bull and Toro Rosso to supply engines comes to an end following the '16 season. Renault will "either maintain the status quo, quit F1 altogether or take over Lotus, with talks on that particular matter understood to be at an advanced level."

Honda pressuring IndyCar to allow for aero kit changes
AR1 thinks the Honda aero kit has too much drag and Honda wants to fix it
Outgoing IndyCar President of Competition and Race Operations Derrick Walker revealed to FOXSports.com that Honda Performance Development has applied for possible changes to the aero kits its teams use in the Verizon IndyCar Series. Walker met with officials at Chevrolet in Detroit last week and Honda in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Monday as the company considers IndyCar Rule 9.3.

That rule states: "In the event that an aero kit is not competitive to such extent that it would be detrimental to the Verizon IndyCar Series, INDYCAR may permit in its sole discretion Approved Suppliers to implement modifications to their respective Aero Kits."

According to Walker, the process regarding Rule 9.3 can be quite complicated.

Tony Stewart donates to family that lost 3 sons in crash
Tony Stewart
A NASCAR superstar is helping out a grieving Iowa family after learning about an accident that claimed the lives of three Iowa brothers last week, according to a WHO TV report.

Jamie, Carson, and Christian Singletary were killed in an accident near New Sharon in Mahaska County last Thursday, when their vehicle collided with a truck. Several fundraising efforts have been set up to help the boys' family, like a GoFundMe page, a U.S. Bank account, and a community spaghetti supper.

Now, they're also getting help from NASCAR legend Tony Stewart. Ralphi Munson's chance encounter with Stewart in the parking lot of the old Pamida in Knoxville Tuesday night led to a compassionate donation from the driver.

NASCAR updates rules to help cool cars at Michigan
NASCAR has addressed the heat issues that plagued last month's racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a rules mandate for this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Drivers complained it was too hot in the cockpit of their cars with the high-drag rules package, which was first used at Indianapolis and will return at Michigan.

The package reduces airflow under the car, so heat is trapped in the cockpit and several drivers were almost ill following the Xfinity Series race at Indy. But NASCAR on Wednesday mandated a dual outlet duct be used on the right-side window to help ventilate the cockpit. With the heat issue now addressed, the focus shifts to durability concerns at Michigan, the fastest track in NASCAR. Associated Press

Andretti denies lawsuit claim that IndyCar team in dire straits
Michael Andretti denies Andretti Autosport is bleeding money and teetering on bankruptcy. Since Tony George split the sport and killed it, money is hard to come by and many cars are funded by ride-buyers.
A lawsuit claims Michael Andretti’s auto sports empire is teetering on insolvency and that the former driver has improperly used money from a marketing firm he co-owns to prop up the company he owns outright.

But Andretti says the allegations are "unfounded."

The suit was filed in Marion Superior Court by Andretti Sports Marketing LLC, which is a partnership involving Andretti, who owns 60 percent of the firm, and John Lopes and A. Starke Taylor, who each own 20 percent.

The firm-formed in 2012-organizes events and manages hospitality for racing and other sports.

The suit seeks unspecified damages from Andretti Autosport Holding Company Inc., for which Andretti is the sole owner. That company operates racing teams.

The suit also asks the court to let Lopes and Taylor buy Andretti’s share of the marketing firm or declare the holding company insolvent and dissolve the partnership.

AR1 at IMS for Firestone tire test (Update) UPDATE
Helio Castroneves getting a jump on preparation for the 100th Indianapolis 500
It is a beautiful August day here in Indy. With temperatures in the low 70's it feels more like May. Helio Castroneves agreed with me that the conditions today are similar to practice sessions for the actual Indy 500.

The three-time Indy winner noted "the beauty of working with a company like Firestone is they end up giving you some interesting things. Are we sure these changes are going to work?  We are going over 200 miles per hours here. That is why we are here, to make sure we try all the little details. I already did 124 laps this morning, that is half the distance of the race. It is about size, it is about grip, it is about what line to take. Great to be part of a this test. I still have some long runs to do this afternoon."

He said, "If we look at all the other great sporting events, in one way or another, they cost money. You look at the infrastructure that is built and those sorts of things, they are a cost to the public."

Leavine Family Racing would like to go full-time
Michael McDowell is in his second year driving the #95 Ford for Leavine Family Racing, and it's surely been a difficult road. The team is running a limited schedule of 20 races with an eye on racing full-time in the future. "If you look at NASCAR, the top 25 cars are probably the top five or six teams," team owner Bob Leavine said. "It's tough to break into that. It was important to us to run quality races because we could have taken that money and scattered it out and ran a full year, but that wouldn't have gotten us to where we want to get."

NASCAR could run "the boot" again at Watkins Glen
Now that Watkins Glen has started repaving its racing surface, running "the Boot" may be back on the table for NASCAR races. The current configuration of the Glen for NASCAR Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series races eliminates the Boot, which contains Turns 6 through 9, and shortens the course from 3.40 miles to 2.45 miles.

But with repaving already having taken place in the Boot, smoothing the bumps in that portion of the track, NASCAR is considering running the full Grand Prix Course, which currently is used for the Tudor United Sports Car Championship.

Stewart pleased, despite last place finish
Tony Stewart's day ended earlier than he had wanted, but he had few complaints about his last-place finish in the Sprint Cup race Sunday at Watkins Glen. Stewart completed 56 laps in the race, which occurred on the one-year anniversary of the tragedy where Stewart accidentally struck and killed Kevin Ward Jr. at a dirt track at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. The accident took place on the eve of last year's race at The Glen.

The crowd erupted in cheers for Stewart when he was introduced Sunday, and he was smiling and laughing as he met with fans prior to the event. He started third -- his best starting spot of the year -- and ran in or near the top 10 for much of the race before a likely broken seal let all the rear end grease out of an axle and ended his day.

IMSA: Sunday Road America Notebook
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. - The Prototype class in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is a varied mix, with engine power coming from Chevrolet V8s (four cars), a Ford V6 (Chip Ganassi Racing Ford EcoBoost), a Honda V6 (Michael Shank Racing), a four-cylinder gas-powered Elan in the DeltaWing, and a four-cylinder diesel engine in the Mazda Motorsports Prototype.

Yet at Road America - at just over four miles, the longest track in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship schedule - the lap times of the eight Prototype cars were startlingly close.
