Agag tells F1 they cannot go all electric

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag says Formula 1's claim it could go all-electric in the next decade isn't necessarily true as it would require permission from Formula E to do so.

Ross Brawn recently said if F1 wanted to go all-electric there was nothing stopping them from doing so, but added that it didn't currently deliver a "spectacle" and therefore he couldn't envisage it happening for some time [but] at the moment they don’t deliver the spectacle."

The move means that LMP2 will from next season become a pro-am category that will be secondary to DPi, in which the machinery will no longer be balanced on performance with the P2s.

5 years max and the Detroit GP will be gone. Denker said Team Penske and the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix are seeking state permission for only three more years of racing, with two single-year options to extend, because they anticipate a time when Belle Isle becomes so improved that it will simply be time to leave.

UPDATE The Detroit Grand Prix and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) have reached an agreement for the annual motorsports festival to continue on Belle Isle for at least three more years.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Grand Prix will return to its home on Belle Isle for three more years beginning in 2019, with an option for extending the agreement two additional years through 2023.

The previous agreement to host the Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle concluded with the 2018 race. Grand Prix officials listened to public feedback on the future of the race over the past year, consulted with stakeholders and made the decision to submit a proposal to the MDNR on July 13 to continue the event on the island. The MDNR, which manages the operation of Belle Isle Park, responded to the proposal with suggested changes on July 20. The Grand Prix adjusted its proposal and today reached an agreement to secure the future of the event.

Marquez schools the rest in the rain
FP1 saw some qualifying simulations as doubts about the weather forecast continued at the Red Bull Ring, and they were proved right as the dry and pleasant conditions of FP1 were a distant memory come FP2. A downpour delayed the session and conditions remained very wet when action continued, with Scott Redding (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) looking like he was going to end FP2 on top. But Marc Marquez, the best rider in MotoGP, struck back and the Brit was relegated to second…ahead of the familiar trio of Petrucci, Lorenzo and Dovizioso, who also showed great pace in the wet.
