IndyCar rookie Pietro Fittipaldi, driving injured, thought he had turned the fastest lap in final practice Friday night for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at 182.294mph so he got out of the car for the night. Then Alexander Rossi went out and turned a faster lap at 183.060mph to lead the first practice session just as he did the first.

And to rub salt in the wounds, point leader nipped Fittipaldi as well to slot in 2nd quick at 183.022mph.

Fast man Rossi and his crew wait out the rain

Alexander Rossi remains on a tear an topped rain delayed IndyCar practice at Gateway with a lap of 184.424mph to lead feloow Honda drivers Scott Dixon and Sebastien Bourdais.

Rossi was a full 2/10ths of a second faster than Dixon, a lot on the short 1.25-mile oval. Rossi is gunning to catch Dixon in points and is driving better than anyone right now.

IndyCar practice delayed due to rain (2nd Update)
UPDATE There is a slight delay for IndyCar practice scheduled for 3 pm.  The track dryers are out drying the deceleration lanes.

08/24/18  Indycar has just announced a tentative schedule depending on the how the track drying progresses.

K&N Practice           2:15 - 2:45 pm

IndyCar Practice       3 - 4 pm

ProMazda Practice    4:15 - 5:15 pm

IndyCar Qualifying     5:30 pm

K&N Qualifying          6:45 pm

IndyCar Practice        8 - 9 pm



08/24/18 Practice for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 IndyCar race has been delayed due to rain. The rain has moved away and track drying is in progress.

Nyck de Vries produced a scintillating lap to secure pole in the FIA Formula 2 Championship Qualifying Session at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, setting the fastest middle sector by some margin en route to a 1:56.054 time. The PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing driver watched the final five minutes from the pitwall, and saw his time remain unbeaten as ART Grand Prix’s George Russell will start alongside the Dutch driver in tomorrow’s Feature Race. Sergio Sette Camara for Carlin will start third.

David Beckmann secured his first GP3 Series pole position in Qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, posting a 2:04.355 on his final flying lap to cement Trident’s first pole of the season. The German driver saw off an effort from points leader Anthoine Hubert, who failed to claim his third consecutive pole while Pedro Piquet clinched third with a lap late on after the checkered flag had waved.

After Yamaha dominated FP1 at the GoPro British Grand Prix, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) came out firing on all cylinders in FP2 to go fastest overall on day one, with home hero Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) just 0.005 off the Italian’s 2:01.358 in second. Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had a very strong opening day as he got within 0.061 of Dovizioso in FP2 to end the day third quickest after topping FP1.

Fernando Alonso is happy to accept the risks of moving to IndyCar, despite the serious injuries suffered by Robert Wickens in last weekend's race in the American series. Wickens suffered fractures to both legs, his right arm and a spinal cord injury after being pitched into the perimeter fence after a collision with Ryan Hunter-Reay.

Having announced he will not race in Formula 1 next year, Alonso is expected to pen a full-time IndyCar deal as he goes in search of victory at the Indianapolis 500 to complete the 'Triple Crown'.

Friday Morning from Gateway Motorsports Park (Update)
UPDATE Unofficially the Indycars are set to go out around 3 pm Central time for practice.  Temperatures are 66 degrees at the moment as the trucks are drying the track and pit lane.  There is movement in pit lane as the teams move tires into place.

08/24/18 Hello from Madison, Illinois just outside of downtown St Louis.   It is not a pretty day here yet.  It has been raining heavily since early this morning at the track.  So heavily that the expressway was too wet to drive the speed limit.  The rain has just started to stop here at the track.  But I do not hear any track drying yet.

Force India will keep their 2018 prize money after their Formula 1 rivals agreed to measures that will not leave the new team cash-strapped. The team have relaunched as Racing Point Force India at the Belgian Grand Prix after the takeover by Lawrence Stroll's consortium.

Legal issues connected to former owner Vijay Mallya had threatened to deny the team to race at Spa-Francorchamps, however the FIA confirmed on Friday that the team would continue to compete, albeit as effectively a brand-new entity.

After Sebastian Vettel went fastest in FP1, in second practice it was the sister Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen who topped the timesheet at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit - though Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton kept the pressure on and finished a narrow 0.168s behind the Finn.

Raikkonen displayed Ferrari’s pace around this power-sensitive track, after the Italian squad and Mercedes both unveiled new-spec power units at Spa, to deliver a mighty 1m 43.355s, but less than a second split the top six.
