Sage Karam
SAGE KARAM, CHIP GANASSI RACING VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES DRIVER met with members of the media at Sonoma Raceway. Transcript:

THOUGHTS ON THE LOSS OF VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES DRIVER JUSTIN WILSON LAST WEEK AT POCONO NOTE: KARAM WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT AHEAD OF WILSON ON-TRACK AND SUSTAINED AN INJURY TO HIS FOOT: "It's been a tough week. This isn't a good week for racing losing such a great guy. I've been working with a psychologist this week. I've worked with him in the past and he's really been there for me this week. It's been tough on me, but the main thing is Justin's family. I can't imagine what they're going through."

Buemi & Prost back with Renault e.dams
Formula E's most potent pairing returns intact for 2015-2016
Renault e.dams have today confirmed that it will retain Nicolas Prost and Sebastien Buemi for next season, the same driver line-up that clinched the inaugural teams' title.

The pair have both been behind the wheel of the Renault Z.E.15 throughout pre-season testing at Donington Park and will hope for a repeat performance of last season as the team enter the series as a new constructor.

Buemi, who finished runner-up in the drivers' standings with three victories to his name, says he is pleased to stay on with the French manufacturer: "I'm so happy that I'll be working with the guys at Renault e.dams again because we all get on so well. The team is a little bigger than last year with Renault being on board but having a big manufacturer like that only strengthens the team. After our promising performance in testing things are looking good, but it's too early to say what will happen during the season. Let's see!"

Bryan Herta Autosport Sonoma Preview
Gabby Chaves
Indianapolis – Following a difficult week where the entire Indycar family is trying to cope with the passing of driver Justin Wilson following a freak accident at Pocono Speedway last weekend, the Verizon Indycar Series moves to Sonoma, CA for the final race of the 2016 season.

After leading 31 laps late in last week’s Pocono 500, Gabby Chaves appeared to be in position to win, however a loss of drive with less than four laps remaining ended his charge.  Sonoma is a double points weekend so Gabby will be looking to maintain his strong lead in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings.

Tesla Model S scores 103 from Consumer Reports on 100-point scale
Consumer Reports, in what at first appears to be a case of grade inflation, has given a new, top-of-the-line version of Tesla Motors’ TSLA, +8.07%  Model S sedan a 103-point score -- out of a possible 100.

The not-for-profit U.S. consumer guidebook gushed it had to “make changes to its scoring methodology to account for the car’s exceptionally strong performance.” With those changes now in place, Tesla’s scale-bending 103 points once again fit within the magazine’s 100-point top rating.

After Justin Wilson's Death, What Should IndyCar Do?
IndyCar Racing remains an extreme sport. Will Power's car flies through the air in the accident that killed Dan Wheldon

Automobile racing was an “extreme sport” long before the term was coined. The age of city-to-city races was ended by government fiat in mid-event after at least seven people were killed -- two drivers, three riding mechanics, and two spectators -- in the star-crossed Paris-Madrid rally in 1903. Now, the sport has made it back onto newspaper front pages and website home pages that usually ignore it, thanks to the death of Justin Wilson, who succumbed Monday to injuries suffered the previous day during the Verizon IndyCar Series event at Pocono Raceway.

Wilson, a 37-year-old Briton, was a genuinely sweet and extravagantly talented racer who had persevered despite setbacks ranging from a lack of funding that relegated him to second-tier teams to breaking his back in a wreck at Mid-Ohio (2011) and his pelvis at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California (2013). His death came, perversely, just as his career was trending upward: In midseason, he unexpectedly landed a top-tier ride with Andretti Autosport, and he finished second at Mid-Ohio, the race preceding Pocono.

David Letterman questions his love of racing in wake of Wilson death
David Letterman. IndyCar will continue to kill off its stars if they don't add canopies to their cars. If even Letterman's love for IndyCar is beginning to wane, the sports future may be dire.
David Letterman loves racing. But the recent death of Justin Wilson has him questioning his passion.

The former late-night TV host and co-owner of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan IndyCar team recently gave an interview with the Associated Press, and he seems to be doing a lot of deep reflection.

The AP caught up with Letterman at his Montana ranch, just days after Wilson was killed after being hit by a piece of debris during Sunday's IndyCar race at Pocono.

"Maybe we've reached diminishing returns at making this sport safer," Letterman said.

The list of racing deaths over the last few decades isn't long, but it's not short, either. Wilson, Dan Wheldon, Paul Dana, Dale Earnhardt, Jason Leffler, Kevin Ward Jr. and Ayrton Senna are some of the more notable names.

"It's just like, 'Whoa, is this really the sport that you can embrace entirely?' I don't know. It's a real self-examination," Letterman said.

Servia to pilot #25 Andretti Autosport at Sonoma
Oriol Servia
SONOMA, Calif. (Aug. 27, 2015) – Verizon IndyCar Series team Andretti Autosport announced today that the No. 25 Honda of Justin Wilson will race this weekend at Sonoma Raceway to honor the late driver. Wilson passed away earlier this week following injuries sustained during the series event at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.

"Justin was a true racer and advocate to our sport,” said team owner Michael Andretti. "We will have Justin and his family in our hearts this weekend as we honor him in the way he would want us to, by doing what he loved – racing."

IndyCar Series veteran Oriol Servia, Wilson's close friend, will now have the responsibility of driving the No. 25 Andretti Autosport entry, formerly piloted by Wilson, at Sonoma. "This is the most difficult quote I have ever had to come up with. The situation is so difficult on so many levels for obvious reasons that it's hard for the words to come out the right way. I have known and raced Justin for more than 10 years. I have an enormous amount of respect for him as a racer, but his qualities as a human were definitely an inspiration to anyone who ever met him.

Video: Mercedes Halo Driver protection
While this would be better than we have today, which is no protection, we worry about obstruction of your vision with the post between the drivers eyes. If you have ever driven a race car you know that as you round a corner you must way ahead in the corner, so you are looking left or right.  That would not be so much a problem, but in eases you are looking left, and then right while still completing the left and the post is going to obstruction your vision of the right.  It has to be tested. The animation was done by Giorgio Piola for Omnicorse.it, and it’s really quite insightful in terms of what could be in store for open wheel racing in the future.

Desire Wilson sweeps Porsche Cup races
Former Formula One driver Desire Wilson won both rounds of the Pirelli Cup Porsche GT3 races in her class on Saturday and Sunday at Miller Motorsports Park. The 61-year-old Salt Lake City resident finished both races third overall behind two Diamond class Porsche 991's and ahead of Mark Nelson in the Platinum class.

After gearbox problems in qualifying for Sunday's race dropped her to tenth on the grid, she passed five cars on the first lap, then two more on consecutive laps to consolidate her position and her fourth class win in four races. Having  earned double wins at Laguna Seca three weeks ago, Wilson is now an impressive four-for-four in  the Pirelli Cup races in which she has driven in 2015.

Porsche confirms LMP1 program up to end of 2018
Porsche 1-2 at LeMans
Porsche continues racing into the future with the 919 Hybrid: The board of Porsche AG has decided to extend the Le Mans prototype program until the end of the 2018 season. With its ground-breaking concept – a downsizing turbo engine and powerful energy recovery systems, combined with an extreme lightweight design – the racing car with a performance of around 1,000 hp serves as a research laboratory for future sports car technology.

Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, said: “Motorsport is an important part of Porsche’s brand identity – but not an end in itself. Racing has got to help the technology of future road going sports cars. It was the revolutionary efficiency regulations that convinced us to return to top-level motorsport for the 2014 season. That we have managed to take the crown jewels of endurance racing in only our second year, with a one-two result in Le Mans in 2015 with our highly innovative and complex 919, is an outstanding testimony to the people in the Weissach research and development center. The competition bears fruits and we see further potential for future synergy between the racing and road car programs. This is why we have extended the program.”
