Fans eat crow after Portland melee
Robert Wickens and many IndyCar fans eating crow
IndyCar fans eating crow

OPINION: Social media was rather quiet after the big first corner IndyCar crash at Portland Sunday. The mental midgets who blamed the Pocono track for the big first lap pileup two weeks ago, when in fact it was driver error, had to eat crow on Sunday in Portland when once again the IndyCar drivers could not even complete one lap without a big crash.

In fact there was a big first lap crash last year at Portland as well. In all cases it was driver error, but the mental midgets who helped get Pocono off the schedule, calling it unfit for IndyCar, had their mouths stuffed with crow when once again the IndyCar drivers suffered another of their patented first lap pileups.

One has to wonder how those feathers taste?

Official Statement From Pocono Raceway CEO Nick Igdalsky (Update)

NASCAR played Mark Miles like a fiddle once again. Richmond is a NASCAR owned track with two NASCAR Cup races. The Richmond market cannot support more than 2 big races

UPDATE IndyCar CEO Mark Miles told NBC Sports.com that Pocono Raceway was on the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series schedule as late as “Thursday night.”

Miles, who spoke with NBC Sports.com after the 2020 schedule was released on NBC Sports before Sunday’s telecast of the Grand Prix of Portland, said INDYCAR was willing to have an 18-race schedule for next season. Miles, along with INDYCAR Vice President of Promoter and Media Partner Relations Stephen Starks worked with Pocono Raceway officials through late last week to try to find a way to keep the series at the 2.5-mile triangle-shaped speedway.

“It was absolutely not a foregone conclusion,” Miles told NBC Sports.com. “We were talking to them about substantive points as late as Thursday of last week. It was only on Thursday night that it was clear it was not going to get done.

“We appreciated the point of view that maybe there would be a new opportunity there because of NASCAR schedule changes for next year, but we still could not get it to work.”

After 4-straight years of having the most powerful engine on the grid, Hamilton is sulking now that he does not
After 4-straight years of having the most powerful engine on the grid, Hamilton is sulking now that he does not
(GMM) Ferrari will be strong again at Monza this weekend, according to Mercedes' two drivers and boss Toto Wolff.

Although Ferrari's advantage in the race at Spa was not as great as in qualifying, the Italian team looks set to dominate the speed traps again at home.

"Monza is going to be a happy weekend for Ferrari," said championship leader Lewis Hamilton after the Belgian GP.

"I think just in qualifying we're losing over a second a lap, and Monza is all straights. So there's not much me and Valtteri can do in that respect and there's not a lot of corners there to catch that up.

Except for the Indy 500 on NBC, ABC Supply dumps Foyt sponsorship. They must have seen those horrible NBCSN TV ratings

Speaking to RACER.com from his ranch in Texas on Sunday morning, Foyt confirmed that ABC Supply is leaving as his primary backer after 15 years but will continue to be involved in the Indianapolis 500, and the decision will not affect his team’s participation in the sport he’s been involved in for seven decades.

“ABC is pulling back but they will still be with me at Indianapolis,” said Foyt, whose longevity with sponsors includes 12 years with U.S. Tobacco and 15 years with Gilmore Broadcasting. “They’ve spent a ton of money taking customers to races, and I don’t think there’s been a better partner for IndyCar. They’re great people, and they’ve been great to me.”
