Steve Torrence Wins Top Fuel NHRA Traxxas Nitro Shootout
Steve Torrence pockets $100,000
Steve Torrence piloted his Capco Contractors dragster to the Top Fuel NHRA Traxxas Nitro Shootout victory Saturday at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, the world's biggest drag race, at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Torrence ran a 3.673-second pass at 329.50 mph to defeat Tony Schumacher's 3.680 pass at 330.31 in his U.S. Army dragster during the specialty event final round to win the $100,000 prize. It was Torrence's third Traxxas Shootout finals appearance and first win.

"This is just the icing on the cake; to go to Indy and be able to race in the Traxxas Shootout," Torrence said. "Thanks to Mike Jenkins and all those guys at Traxxas that put this on. This is an unbelievable deal. When you come out here and you race for 100,000 grand and it's a race-within-a-race, the competition level is at its highest. It's the baddest eight guys in drag racing and when you go up there you have to bring you're a-game every lap and we were able to come out with a win."

Alonso says the main straight asphalt was bad
Alonso says the main straight asphalt was bad
Fernando Alonso does not think the new asphalt on the start and finish straight at the autodromo Nazionale Monza is up to Formula 1 standards after problems with it delayed qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

The straight has been resurfaced and as such has been smoothed out, which led to the aquaplaning accident of Haas F1 Team racer Romain Grosjean, with the asphalt on the straight different to what is found on the rest of the circuit, something Alonso is unhappy about.

Given his speed in the dry, we asked Rossi whether he was hoping it's going to clear up for the race or did he prefer it rain?

VeeKay Wins the Battle as Askew Secures USF2000 Title
Veekay (C) wins for third time in 2017
VeeKay (C) wins for third time in 2017
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Rinus VeeKay from Hoofddorp, the Netherlands, came from behind this afternoon at the famed Watkins Glen International road course to secure an emphatic third victory of the season for Pabst Racing in the 14th and final round of the year’s Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda. But the 16-year-old’s joy was tempered because he knew that second place was more than enough for fellow rookie Oliver Askew (Cape Motorsports), 20, from Jupiter, Fla., to secure the championship and a Mazda Scholarship worth almost $400,000 to ensure graduation to the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, the next step on the Mazda Road to Indy open-wheel development ladder, in 2018.

F2: Ghiotto wins in dramatic Monza feature
Top-3
Top-3
Luca Ghiotto has grabbed a spectacular last lap victory in a chaotic FIA Formula 2 Championship feature race this afternoon at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, sneaking into the lead when Nyck De Vries and Charles Leclerc came together ahead of him for an emotional Italian 1-2 ahead of countryman Antonio Fuoco and Nobuharu Matsushita.

The start of the race was extensively delayed by a heavily rain-affected Formula 1 qualifying session, and with the rain continuing as the F2 teams made it to the grid the decision was made to run a series of formation laps behind the safety car until it was clear enough to make a standing start, reducing the race length in the process. After 6 laps the safety car eventually pitted, but another formation lap was required when Santino Ferrucci stalled, dropping the lap total to 23 for the race.

F1 qualifying red-flagged (Update)
UPDATE Qualifying is back underway at Monza with drivers out on full wets with less than 10 minutes to go in Q1. The drivers are under pressure to put up a good time in treacherous conditions. Still a fair amount of standing water, but that should clear as the cars start circulating.

It's very wet in Monza
It's very wet in Monza

09/02/17 Heavy rain with standing water on the track has brought out the red flag in Q 1 qualifying for the Italian GP at Monza. The rain is continuing to hammer it down here in Monza, so it's doubtful the session will resume any time soon. The clock has stopped with 13 minutes remaining.

Before those red flags came out, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel were among nine drivers to set times, with the duo sitting in first and second. Romain Grosjean, who crashed his Haas, is in P3, followed by Ericsson and Valtteri Bottas.

Renault drivers like Hulkenberg hammered with penalties
Renault drivers like Hulkenberg hammered with penalties
Renault drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Jolyon Palmer have joined the penalty list for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, after new power unit elements were fitted to their cars.

Under the silly Formula 1 regulations that rob fans of seeing their drivers racing to win, drivers are allowed to use only four of each of the six elements that make up the power unit before grid penalties are imposed. As you read below one has to laugh just how stupid the F1 rules are as penalties are sometimes multiple times the entire grid size.

Rain delays final F1 practice at Monza
The big news from Monza is that we have rain - and lots of it.  In fact we have so much standing water on the circuit at the moment that we may not see any running early on – at least not until these torrential downpours cease. Rossi has improved his racing stats this year

AR1 spoke with Alexander Rossi this morning about his progress with the Andretti Autosport team this year.  We asked him if the reason the team was a little bit lost last year was due to the shocks.

Rossi, who just announced a multiyear contract to drive with Andretti Autosport, replied, 'Yes, that was one of the areas where we struggled last year, no doubt.  But you can't pinpoint one thing. It's not like you can say, Oh, you need to make this type of damper with these parts, and you're all of a sudden going to go from 15th to first. That's not how it works. Dampers were one area where we weren't good.'

Tesla's Musk says air suspension coming to Model 3 in 6 months
Those eager to get their hands on a Tesla Model 3 may be better off waiting until the options list rounds out a tad more. Right now, a Tesla Model 3 is limited to only a few options such as colors, wheels, and the choice between a short- and long-range variant. In fact, colors other than black cost extra for those placing an order.

As Tesla continues to move the Model 3 out of "production hell," CEO Elon Musk has divulged when we'll see the automaker's trick "Smart Air Suspension" reach the affordable electric car. He took to Twitter to respond to a production question over the Smart Air Suspension and revealed the feature will join the Model 3's options "in about six months or so." Musk added it will arrive with a dual-motor configuration option.
