F1 Tire Supplier Pirelli Demands 18 Preseason Testing Days In '17 If Awarded New Deal
Pirelli Motorsport Dir Paul Hembery believes it is crucial his company is "given 18 days of testing next year" if it is to deliver rubber ready for F1's "dramatic" '17 changes, according to Ian Parkes of AUTOSPORT.

F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone's "ringing endorsement of Pirelli in the wake of the events at Spa" would appear to suggest he is set to confirm the company will again be F1's supplier for the '17-19 contract, ahead of Michelin. Should that be the case, "with a definitive answer due in the next few weeks," Hembery feels it "is vital testing is conducted given the looming change of direction."

Spencer Pigot's Star Rises Again
Spencer Pigot
Monterey, Calif. (13 September 2015) - Rising Star Racing's Spencer Pigot turned a dream into reality on Sunday as the young American driver won the final two races of the 2015 Indy Lights season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to win the championship in his rookie season.

The accomplishment earned him another round of support from Mazda Motorsports to make the next step up the ladder, with a package that will see him benefit from over one million dollars in support toward three Verizon IndyCar Series race outings, including the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The victory is Pigot's sixth of the Indy Lights season, which marked the debut of the Mazda-powered Dallara IL-15 that featured an all-new approach to the final step of the Mazda Road to Indy ladder with paddle shifters, push-to-pass, and fully current technology. While the machinery was new, the surroundings were not as Pigot continued to thrive in the Juncos Racing organization.

Mike Conway enjoying sole FIA WEC focus in 2015 and getting paid to drive
Mike Conway gets paid to drive as a professional in the WEC rather than buying an IndyCar ride
Former IndyCar driver Mike Conway is enjoying the ability to focus on just one series after going full-time in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2015 with Toyota.

Conway spent six years racing in IndyCar, balancing his final two years with a drive in WEC. The Briton raced for G-Drive's LMP2 outfit in 2013 before joining Toyota's LMP1 team for three rounds in 2014.

Due to the number of clashes between the condensed 2015 IndyCar calendar and the WEC, Conway was forced to turn his attention to just one series, with WEC being his favored option.

Roush Fenway Racing misses NASCAR Chase for first time
A season of unfulfilled hope continues for Roush Fenway Racing with the organization missing the Chase for the first time.

Once one of NASCAR's dominant teams - Roush Fenway Racing won the inaugural Chase in 2004 and had the runner-up in three of following four seasons - Roush has failed to be competitive this season.

The three-car team of Greg Biffle, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Trevor Bayne have combined for no wins, three top-five and six top-10 finishes this season. The organization is on pace for its fewest top-five and top-10 finishes in a season since becoming a multi-car operation in 1992.

Mercedes previews how it will win the Singapore GP
It will be another win for Lewis Hamilton
It's 100% certain Lewis Hamilton will win again in Singapore - how boring
The 2015 Formula One World Championship season continues with Round Thirteen, the Singapore Grand Prix, from the Marina Bay Street Circuit

Lewis Hamilton
"Monza was an awesome weekend for me - one of the best I've had in Formula One. The car this team has built is just incredible and I can't thank them enough for all their hard work. Of course, it was a shame for Nico and the crew to have the retirement - but I know he'll bounce back and I'm looking forward to another battle in Singapore. This race is always a highlight of the season - a great city which looks really spectacular under the lights with the tricky street circuit below - my favorite kind of track to drive.

"You've got to stay 100% focused for a full two hours, which is tougher than it sounds with the crazy humidity. Any small slip and you're in the barrier, so maintaining that total concentration is crucial. I've won there twice now - both times from pole, which shows you how important qualifying is too. It won't be easy to make it three - far from it. But I'm riding high right now and I'll be pushing for that hat-trick."

Smedley: F1 cockpits must be designed properly
F1 canopy concept
Williams technical guru Rob Smedley admits that, while the safety benefits of covered F1 cockpits cannot be denied, there is equal concern that fitting canopies will also have negative safety implications unless done correctly.

The enclosed cockpit debate has been in full swing since Justin Wilson succumbed to head injuries sustained when he was hit by a piece of Sage Karam's nosecone during an IndyCar Series race at Pocono last month and, coming so soon after F1 talent Jules Bianchi lost his battle with critical head injuries sustained in a collision with a recovery vehicle last October, there has been a noticeable upswing in support for the modifications amongst drivers in the top flight.

Allgaier worried about future
Justin Allgaier
Justin Allgaier
Justin Allgaier is well aware of the rumors. With HScott Motorsports' #51 Chevy the most-mentioned landing place for Clint Bowyer next season and no contract for Allgaier beyond this season, the 29-year-old's 2016 plans are unclear. "Being in a contract year in general is a challenge, let alone with the rumors," Allgaier told USA TODAY Sports on Friday.

"Yeah, I'm worried about it. But at the same time, everybody is trying to get everything put together so we're not sitting there in November saying, 'Oh, we don't know what the future looks like.' Everybody is working diligently so that every thought goes into this and that it makes sense for everybody involved. I'll let them sort out the details on the off-track side of it and keep working on the on-track side." So has Allgaier been informed of what the team might be thinking? "I listen to you guys (in the media), honestly," he said.

Ned Jarrett, a two-time champion in NASCAR's premier series, said Thursday that he is cancer-free after surgery and four weeks of recent treatment for melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Jarrett, 82, said he was diagnosed with the disease this winter but that his health prognosis was encouraging. The NASCAR Hall of Famer said he was able to participate in last weekend's festivities at Darlington Raceway without restriction, joining the NBC Sports booth to broadcast a portion of Sunday's Bojangles' Southern 500.

"It is very positive and I feel good," Jarrett told NASCAR.com. "In fact, I feel the best I've felt in a couple of years at least. Getting my immune system built up and getting toxins out of my body and the cancer, I'm really feeling good and feeling good about the whole situation. I know now how to better take care of my body, so hopefully, it won't come back."

Bowyer comments on 2016
Clint Bowyer
Clint Bowyer
Clint Bowyer met with the media at Richmond and one question was about his 2016 plans.

Q) How much progress have you made toward where you will race in 2016?
Bowyer: "I think first of all it's very humbling, the phone calls. As soon as the news comes out that you're not going to have a future at your present employment, obviously you're nervous and you're worried about what that means for yourself or your people and with everything. It's humbling the people that have reached out and been interested in me, but truth be told man, look what we're in the middle of. Timing is good that it's ahead and not the end of the year that you're finding this out, but nonetheless it's pretty crunching times right here and it's like I told them, 'I don't want to use the word back burner, but let's just take a timeout right here for a couple weeks and take care of business.' That's kind of what we did this week. I stayed at the farm, Lorra (Bowyer) went to New York City with her girlfriends for a couple days and me and little man chilled out. I used a little help. Grandma showed up quite a bit, I ain't going to lie to you. She made sure I was under control and then she would go." Toyota Racing

Hamlin talks about knee injury, plans to wait for surgery
Denny Hamlin
Denny Hamlin
Joe Gibbs Racing driver #11-Denny Hamlin was made available to the media at Richmond International Raceway, some of the Q&A's:

Q) What happened when you were playing basketball to get injured and what is the pain like inside the car?
Hamlin: "In the car I'm as comfortable as any place that I am. Obviously the swelling is the biggest issue. It hurts mobility and it kind of shuts down my quad so there's challenges there. But, in the car we ran 15 or 20 consecutive laps which isn't a whole lot but it was fine then. And, what I was doing I was just playing. I play in a league every week and it was just the exact same scenario as it was the first time. I had actually felt that I jarred it earlier in the game and unfortunately I tied the game up with five seconds to go and so it went to overtime and I hurt it in overtime."

McDowell hits safety truck
Michael McDowell
Michael McDowell clipped a safety truck on the high side of the track on Lap 291. He was a lapped-down car, and as the leaders dove down pit road, McDowell didn't know that the safety truck was on the track. The safety crew reported to NASCAR race control that they were not injured. "I jumped on the brakes and started to slide, and then the cars in front of me all pulled down, and it was just too late for me," McDowell said.

"I had no idea the safety truck was there. I think a lot of guys were trying to pull up to get to pit road, and a lot of lapped guys jumped on the brakes. It was just my mistake, obviously. I'm driving it. I take full responsibility for it. But it definitely caught me off guard. ... I'm thankful nobody got hurt. I'm embarrassed for my team." ESPN

Afternoon update from Richmond
Brad Keselowski will look to repeat his 2014 win in tonight's Federated Auto Parts 400
It's about 12:30 here at Richmond International Raceway. I'm here with AR1 NASCAR Correspondent Pete McCole to cover this evening's Federated Auto Parts 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

It rained very heavily this morning here in Richmond. That rain has stopped and it is currently, cloudy and overcast with more rain expected this afternoon. However, the word AR1's Greater Richmond Area Weather Bureau is that the rain should move out of the area by about 6 p.m. local time. With the green flag scheduled for 7:30 p.m. we're thinking there may be a delay.

Of course, with the race being here at Richmond too long of a delay could be problematic on the other end. Richmond International Raceway is located in a neighborhood which has a curfew and noise ordinance (we hear the curfew is 1 p.m. local time, but that is not confirmed.). We asked RIR staff about the curfew and were told that "everything is on schedule for now."  When we asked about the possibility of the race running late, we were then told "we can't comment on that" by a track personnel member.

Anyway, we decided to not belabor the point. Our best guess is the final race of NASCAR's regular season will run this evening and the 16 driver field for The Chase for the Sprint Cup will be set.

Brian Carroccio reporting from Richmond International Raceway

Colo. dealership held liable in test-drive accident
The Colorado Court of Appeals said a dealership is liable for damage resulting from an accident on a test drive because someone from the dealership was in the car with the driver.

The case stems from an incident involving Colorado resident Kristin Hart, who was test driving a vehicle from what was then Go Courtesy Ford in Littleton, Colo., when she turned left into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, Kelly Minna-Angard, then filed a claim with her insurer, American Family Mutual Insurance Co., and a negligence claim against Hart and the Ford dealership, saying the test drive represented a “joint venture” between the two.

In a unanimous decision on Thursday, the appeals court ruled that the test drive is indeed a joint venture. The three-judge panel said Thursday in an opinion that the sales representative and Hart each had a “common goal” and had a right to control the vehicle, the two thresholds needed to determine a joint venture. Therefore, the dealership is liable for damages and owes American Family.
