NASCAR Delivers 2015 Competition Package to Teams
Following more than a year of extensive collaboration with stakeholders throughout the industry, and with a keen eye towards the future, NASCAR has finalized and delivered to teams the 2015 racing package for all three national series. "This race package represents a lot of hard work by NASCAR, the race teams, the drivers, our manufacturer partners and Goodyear," said Gene Stefanyshyn, NASCAR senior vice president of innovation and racing development. "We've remained committed to constantly looking at our racing, and the work that has been done has been aimed at getting a rules package delivered to the race teams as early as possible."

Highlighted in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series changes for 2015 are nearly 60 enhancements, including adjustments to the power train, aerodynamics and chassis that are designed to work in concert to deliver drivers more flexibility and teams more adjustability. Fans are expected to benefit from closer racing and more opportunities for drivers to pass on the track. "We have had fantastic racing so far in 2014," Stefanyshyn said. "We remain committed to constantly looking to improve it. Our fans deserve it and our industry is pushing for it. That will not stop with the 2015 package; the development will continue over many years to come."

Reaction To NASCAR's New Rules
Today, NASCAR announced significant rule changes for the 2015 racing season, including a ban on private team testing, a major reduction in horsepower, changes to the aerodynamic packages and more. Below are quotes from today's FOX Sports 1 original studio program, NASCAR RACE HUB, in reaction to today's announcement. For more information on the new rules package, including video, please visit: http://www.foxsports.com/nascar.

FOX Sports NASCAR analyst and team owner Phil Parsons on the reduction of horsepower:
"The first thing that stuck out to me is that for the first time since 1974, we're going to have a reduction in horsepower for these engines – that excludes Daytona and Talladega from back in the late '80s when we went to the restrictor plates. When they went from big blocks to small blocks in the early '70s, that was the last time we had horsepower reduction, and it's going to be a fairly significant one here, going from about 900 to 725."

F1 not returning to India anytime soon
There is often a price to pay when standing up for what's true and Narain Karthikeyan might seem the unlikely villain here. However, the former Formula One driver may be right in claiming the clouds hanging over the future of the sport in India may not have a silver lining.

Three years into a five-year deal to host the Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone decided to pull the plug on the race due to a tax dispute between organizers Jaypee Sports International Limited and the Uttar Pradesh government which had rendered the hosting of the race less profitable than initial estimates.  The 2014 edition of the race was moved to early 2015, but then altogether cancelled, with Ecclestone claiming that the sport would consider making a return in 2016 if the tax situation had been resolved.

McLaren: Plan for future now almost complete
Jenson Button's McLaren
McLaren Engineering Director Matt Morris has confirmed the "restructuring" at the team is now almost complete.

McLaren have struggled in recent seasons, but since Ron Dennis returned at the helm at the start of the year, ousting Martin Whitmarsh, there have been a number of changes in a bid to return it to winning ways.

Asked if the outfit is now ready for the future, Morris told McLaren's official website: "We have been working hard over the past year to bring in some new people, allow a few people to move on, and change the way the engineering team is structured. With the valuable input of Jonathan [Neale, Chief Operating Officer and acting Chief Executive Officer] and Eric [Boullier, Racing Director], that plan is now almost complete.

Wally Dallenbach returning to Trans-Am racing
Tommy Kendall. Tommy Archer. And now Wally Dallenbach, Jr. Trans-Am is partying like it's the 1980s or 1990s, with some of its iconic stars coming back in the series in 2015. Dallenbach Jr. is the latest to return, and will do so in a Chevy Camaro for the series' finale November 15 in Daytona. He'll race in the TA2 class.

The Camaro is the same brand he raced when he won his second straight series championship in 1986, his third year of competition. "I've enjoyed my time in television but for now that phase of my life is over, and I'm excited to get back behind the wheel and resume my racing career," Dallenbach said in a series release. "I'm genuinely excited and looking forward to returning to the Trans Am Series at Daytona, and I'm hoping to be racing with them full time come 2015. This is a program I've been working on putting together over the past year or so," he added. "Unfortunately, up until now, my broadcast schedule has prevented me from being able to make a commitment to racing, but now the timing and opportunity is right." NBC Sports

Rocky Moran Jr. to test for Schmidt Peterson
Moran
In 2001 and 2002, there was a flock of U.S.-born talent in the Toyota Formula Atlantic series. Ryan Hunter-Reay, Alex Gurney, Jon Fogarty, Joey Hand and Rocky Moran Jr. were young, fast and ready to move up into CART.

Unfortunately, CART went bankrupt after 2002 and only RHR got to take that next step into Champ Car. Gurney and Fogarty teamed to become a formidable combo in sports cars while Hand went from ALMS to the DTM.

Moran, who captured the last Atlantic race of 2001 at Laguna Seca and then the Montreal race in 2002, went back to go-karts as he and his father, Rocky, built a state-of-the-art track in California. He returned to sports car racing in 2011 driving alongside Bruno Junqueira but now he's finally going to get a shot at his goal in life. An Indy car.

Singapore F1 Grand Prix Suffers Ratings Drop as F1 borefest marches on
Boring cars and a Mercedes parade up front.  A sure sign of disaster. German free-to-air TV channel RTL "attracted more than 4 million viewers on Sunday for the broadcast of the Singapore F1 Grand Prix," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. The race, which was won by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, was watched by a total of 4.35 million viewers. The number translated into a market share of 28%.

"It was the first time in almost three months that an F1 race obtained less than a 30% market share on RTL." In the target demographic 14-49, the race had a market share of 25.3%. Last year's Singapore GP was watched by 5 million viewers. German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland, which also aired the race, reported "a drastic ratings drop." Sunday's race had a 2.2% share in the target demographic. The Italian Grand Prix two weeks ago obtained a 5% share. A total of 320,000 tuned in to watch the night race, which is Sky's lowest F1 viewership since the beginning of June.

McLaren accuses Red Bull of radio breach
(GMM)  McLaren has pointed the finger at Red Bull for allegedly breaching the FIA's new clampdown on radio communications.

Although the governing body intended to immediately impose a comprehensive ban on 'performance'-related messages, the compromise reached ahead of track action in Singapore ultimately outlawed only driver coaching-style calls.

But it remained a fear that teams would still work a way around not being allowed to advise the drivers how to get the most from their cars by issuing 'coded' radio calls.

Kevin Harvick unhappy with NASCAR's restarts
Kevin Harvick speaks out
Kevin Harvick did pretty much what he needed to do Sunday as he finished third at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. So for the most part, he was happy.

But if there was one thing that bothered him, it was that he wants NASCAR to be more strict on its restart rules.

The leader is supposed to accelerate in the restart zone - the start of the zone is designated by two red lines and the end of the zone designated by a single red line on the wall - to restart the race. If the leader doesn't start by the end of the zone, NASCAR is supposed to drop the green flag.

NASCAR confiscated tires after Chicago (Update) UPDATE NASCAR also took tires from the teams of #13-Mears, #22-Logano, #42-Larson and #48-Johnson after the New Hampshire race. MRN's Pete Pistone

09/20/14 NASCAR confiscated tires from the #2-Brad Keselowski, #4-Kevin Harvick, #31-Ryan Newman and #78-Martin Truex Jr.- teams last week at Chicagoland Speedway. Although there was speculation that teams were attempting to bleed air from the tires to gain grip, Sprint Cup Series Richard Buck said it was "just for normal due diligence".

The tires were taken to NASCAR's Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C.

"That's just part of expanding the R & D Center," Buck said. "We bring the stuff back, keep it under our custody like we do with all the parts that are there and keep them for further evaluation. It's just part of the process. Some were taken during the race, some after. It's just a nice sampling of what's out there."

Buck would not confirm whether he found anything unusual with the tires, other than to say, "We're already here at New Hampshire." Generally any infractions stemming from improprieties would be announced prior to the next event. Motorsport.com

Government Official Dmitry Kozak Says Russian F1 Grand Prix Will Go Ahead
A senior government official in Moscow insisted that the inaugural Russian Grand Prix "will go ahead despite warnings from Nato that a ceasefire with the Ukraine has not held," according to Kevin Eason of the LONDON TIMES. With just three weeks to the first grand prix on Russian soil, F1 "is wondering whether it will be caught up in another political skirmish."

The sport "was ridiculed" in '12 when the Bahrain Grand Prix "went ahead against a background of pro-democracy protests," and preparations for this race are taking place as NATO’s top commander said that "a truce between Russia and the Ukraine exists 'in name only.'" Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Kozak said that "western sanctions will not affect sporting events in the country and that the FIA, F1’s governing body, has given an assurance that the race is safe."

NASCAR expected to release 2015 rules package this week
NASCAR is expected to release the 2015 Sprint Cup Series rules package to teams on Tuesday. Some of the changes mentioned around the garage were a two-inch reduction on the spoiler (from eight to six inches), a 125 horsepower decrease to the engines (just 50 more than what is currently used in the Nationwide Series with the use of tapered spacers) and different gear rules. At the test at Michigan International Speedway on August 18, NASCAR tried a variety of different aero packages in an effort to "provide fans with the best action-packed racing possible". The focus was twofold: Aerodynamics and power optimization to "reduce the rapid increase in spacing between cars and increase drafting at the end of the straightaway at many of our tracks". Drivers were looking for less downforce but NASCAR was initially pushing for high downforce. NASCAR never adjusted the engines at the Michigan test but that's expected to happen when teams run the Goodyear tire test next month at Auto Club Speedway. "We never did less downforce and less power, we just did less downforce and the same power," #17-Matt Kenseth said.

Gaughan takes the youngsters to school and steals a nationwide series win at Kentucky
The Visit Myrtle Beach Dot Com 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, held September 19th at the Kentucky Speedway, had all of the makings of becoming rather tedious. This is, of course, said with all due respect to the stellar performance of Ty Dillon. His Chevrolet led a race high 155 of 200 laps and spent much of the evening racing in his own private zip code. Dillon's dominance was, to coin an old broadcast television phrase, "stinking up the show."

However, NASCAR racing frequently has a tendency to take things up a notch and produce exciting endings. We saw evidence of that, in the waning laps of this race, when series rookie, and championship points leader, Chase Elliott surfaced and made the concluding laps of this race very exciting.

IMSA: Saturday Circuit of The Americas Notebook
GT Manufacturer Races To Be Decided At Road Atlanta

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The finish in the GTLM class at Circuit of The Americas made a tight manufacturers championship even tighter. Unofficially, the victory by the Viper SRT factory team put Dodge into a tie with Porsche.

Headed into the season finale at Petit Le Mans, Dodge and Porsche have an eight-point lead over Chevrolet and Ferrari, which means one of the two leaders will win the crown at the last race.

The scoring system awards 35 points for a victory, 32 for second, 30 for third, 28 for fourth and 26 for fifth. With only five manufacturers competing, neither Chevrolet nor Ferrari can gain enough points on the two leaders – barring the remote possibility their rivals fail to score any points at all by not running the minimum distance.

Alonso back on top in final Singapore practice
Fernando Alonso
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso returned to the head of the field during Saturday evening's final practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix, ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg.

Driving for a job, Jean Eric Vergne was 4th ahead.  Making up for lost running time on Friday when his Red Bull lemon once again broke down, Vettel's first timed lap on the super-softs was just 0.412s off Alonso's best and the German slotted into fifth place.

Toyota NSCS Loudon post-qualifying driver quotes
Denny Hamlin was the fastest of the Toyota stable in Loudon qualifying.
DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Ground Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Starting Position:  4th
How was your qualifying session?

"Our lap wasn't bad -- just lacking overall speed.  Really we need a tenth-and-a-half to really be able to run with the 2 car (Brad Keselowski).  Overall, a little discouraged about the speed, but happy that we're in the top-five in qualifying.  That's pretty good.  We'll get a good pit stall out of it.  That's the most important thing.  Good starting spot.  I just want to be able to fight here for the win -- we got to get a little more speed to do that."

What impact will there be from the expected warmer temperatures the next two days?
"It will change a lot -- no doubt.  It will change quite a few things.  Whatever problem you have is just going to get a little bit worse and so you have to pay attention to that tomorrow in practice."

Belardi signs Serralles for 2015
The 2014 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires championship team Belardi Auto Racing has signed Felix Serralles for 2015.
BROWNSBURG, IN (September 19, 2014) – Despite the fact that the Indy Lights championship chase wrapped up less than a month ago in Sonoma, CA, Belardi Auto Racing is already focused on the 2015 season and winning the title for the second straight year.  While Brian Belardi and his dedicated crew are closely watching the continuing testing of the new Dallara IL-15 chassis at Indianapolis, the team principal is not resting on his laurels as he has now signed the first driver for next year's squad.  Belardi is pleased to announce that FIA Formula 3 European sophomore participant Felix Serralles will re-join the team for 2015, having previously run two race weekends with the operation in USF2000 in 2010.  The Team USA Scholarship alum has shifted his career focus to the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires championship with the ultimate goal of becoming a professional in the Verizon IndyCar Series.

"Our entire crew is fired up about the 2015 Indy Lights season and they can't wait to get their hands on the new race car, and to have confirmed the addition of Felix is great for us," offered Belardi, whose passion for the program has only been fueled by the team’s continued success. "I'm very excited and I believe that he's going to be a special talent. He raced with us in 2010 right out of Skip Barber and challenged Sage Karam at Road Atlanta. I've been following his career ever since, so I'm expecting big things out of Felix next year."

Rumors last week that Red Bull's Vettel and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso might sensationally swap seats for 2015 were roundly denied by all sides.

"Should he want to go, Sebastian Vettel would be the right man for Ferrari.  He has all the right features.

Singapore GP: Hamilton tops practice 2
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton topped the opening day of practice for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix in his Mercedes. The former champion left his qualifying simulation run on super-softs later than most, and proceeded to take fast time.

Fernando Alonso got to within 0.133s of Hamilton on his simulated qualifying run, ending the session second ahead of Daniel Ricciardo.

Nico Rosberg did not try a fast lap on the super soft tires, instead opting to do race setups. This meant that his fastest lap on the harder Pirellis stood as his best, the significant performance difference between the two compounds leaving him down in 13th, just over a second-and-a-half off Hamilton.

FIA backtracks on car performance radio clampdown
(GMM)  The FIA has backtracked over its total clampdown on "performance"-related radio communications in formula one.

The earlier-announced comprehensive clampdown has been discussed at length in the Singapore paddock, but team managers went into Thursday's long meeting with Charlie Whiting arguing that it should in fact be relaxed for now.

Indeed, ahead of initial practice in Singapore, the governing body confirmed that car-related performance radio messages will now be allowed with immediate effect, ahead of an expected total clampdown for 2015.

Alonso tops opening practice in Singapore
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso managed to beat the two Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to lead the opening F1 practice session for the Singapore GP.  Sebastian Vettel ended up 4th but then his Red Bull lemon broke down again and he had to push his car back to the pits.

Alonso's time during the Friday track cleaning session of 1m49.056s is rather meaningless because once the track rubbers in the Mercedes will be gone.

Behind Vettel was his Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo but the two Red Bulls are about a second slower per lap and out to lunch right now.
