Amazon announced Thursday it was buying 100,000 electric trucks from US electric-vehicle startup Rivian as part of its effort to eliminate the carbon footprint of the company by 2040. The order represents the largest purchase of light-duty electric vehicles (EVs) in history, and a turning point for the EV market which will now likely see fleets electrify faster than ever before.

Amazon’s move came as part of a climate pledge to ensure its operations emitted net-zero greenhouses gasses before the middle of the century through its use of EVs, reforestation, and renewable energy. “If a company with as much physical infrastructure as Amazon—which delivers more than 10 billion items a year—can meet the Paris Agreement 10 years early, then any company can,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.

GRAHAM RAHAL: Yeah, I mean, I feel good. We tried I think to build upon what was a fairly strong base on road courses, tried to understand a little bit more of why at a place like Barber we were really strong and at other tracks we seemed to struggle a little bit more. That's something I think we've been trying to identify a little better.

Firestone had to do a little guessing for Laguna Seca race tires
Tires for IndyCar season finale
Tires for IndyCar season finale
“The Firestone Race Tire Engineering team always enjoys the challenge of developing race tires for a new track. We collected important data for WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca at the February test, but we’ve also been looking at tire performance from similar tracks over the past 15 years to study how our tires and the track may have changed since the last time we raced there. Through track surface analysis we determined the surfaces at Laguna Seca are within range of the standard road courses in our series, but we also saw it has very unique differences with clay filling from water runoff and dust coverage from the wind – each of which can change grip levels significantly. After reviewing all the data, the team selected tires similar to what we ran at Portland this year but with increased durability to withstand Laguna Seca’s changing surfaces.”

UPDATE NASCAR Xfinity Series crew chief Nick Harrison's July death has been ruled to be accidental after autopsy and toxicology reports by the North Carolina medical examiner showed he had cocaine, oxycodone and alcohol in his system when he died, according to multiple reports.
Fox Sports first reported the findings.

Harrison, 37, had 0.14 milligrams of cocaine per liter of blood in his system, 0.32 milligrams per liter of prescription opioid oxycodone and a blood alcohol level of 0.08%. Harrison also had an enlarged heart and a history of sleep apnea, but those factors weren't ruled to have contributed to his death.
