Zanardi Returns to Compete in Ironman World Championship
Alex Zanardi
Alex Zanardi
For the second straight year, former Indy car champion Alex Zanardi is competing in the iconic Ironman World Championship presented by GoPro at Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The 1997 and '98 CART champ while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing lost both legs in a crash at Lausitzring in Germany in 2001, but that hasn't slowed the 48-year-old Italian fan favorite.

Zanardi won a paracycling gold medal at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and finished 272nd overall in the 2014 Ironman using a handbike for the cycling portion and an Olympic wheelchair for the running section. The 2015 Ironman, set for Oct. 10, consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile marathon run. More than 2,300 competitors are expected.

Talladega Installs More SAFER Barriers
Talladega Superspeedway has installed more than 8,000 linear feet of additional SAFER barriers following an extensive review of the facility.

Working with Cheaha Construction, the track has covered the entire outside and interior retaining walls of the 2.66-mile facility.

Shannon Koch Wins Better Half Dash at Charlotte
Shannon Koch alongside husband Blake Koch
Pete McCole/AR1

Shannon Koch won Thursday night’s Better Half Dash race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, leading 12 of the 25-lap distance in her first race ever.

Koch, the wife of NASCAR Xfinity driver Blake Koch, took the lead shortly after losing the entire back-half worth of sheet metal off of her Bandolero race car, shooting to the front past Katelyn Sweet, who later spun out while fighting off Jenna Robison for second.

Sweet would fight her way back toward the front and regained second place after Robinson spun out, but Koch’s car seemed to have a slight aerodynamic advantage without a back end. Koch would go on to win by two car lengths over Sweet, winning $10,000 for the charity of her choice. Tandra Greenfield was third.

Kevin Harvick
Mike Mercurio/AR1

Anheuser-Busch announced today that they will switching their primary sponsorship of Kevin Harvick’s no. 4 Chevrolet from Budweiser to Busch beer for the 2016 Sprint Cup season.

Busch will serve as primary sponsor on Harvick’s car for 12 races during 2016 campaign, with paint schemes featuring Busch beer and Busch Light. Anheuser-Busch has sponsored Harvick since 2011, following him when he made the move to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014.

Busch’s announcement marks their first return to the track since they ended their title sponsorship of what is now called the Xfinity Series back in 2007. The brand has sponsored numerous cars over the last 30 years, most famously with Cale Yarborough in the late 70’s. The move is part of a larger marketing campaign aimed at promoting the brand, including TV spots and a new social media platform.

Pigot's hopes for fulltime IndyCar ride hinge on the size check he can bring
Open-wheel racing is so broken, Pigot's competition isn't on the track, it's off-track fund raising that matters
Reigning Indy Lights champion Spencer Pigot says he has several IndyCar teams interested in delivering the three guaranteed race entries that are part of his title-winning prize. However, he tells Motorsport.com that his aim remains a full-time ride in the Verizon IndyCar Series for 2016.

"The teams I'm eligible to drive for as part of the $1 million, three-race package had to submit their proposals to Dan, and I think there were five of those," Pigot told Motorsports.com.

"So that's a good selection. One of the races is guaranteed to be Indy, so that's great. Way back my goal was to be in the 100th running of the Indy 500, so that's worked out well.

Weekend TV Ratings (4th Update)
UPDATE #4
The same NBCSN noose that has made IndyCar invisible is doing the same for NASCAR
The same NBCSN noose that has made IndyCar invisible is doing the same for NASCAR

NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Dover drew 3.2 million viewers on NBCSN Sunday afternoon, down 14% from last year (3.8M) and down 18% from 2013 (4.0M), both of which aired on ESPN. The rating was not immediately available. Kevin Harvick's win ranks as the least-watched edition of the race since at least 2001, falling below the previous mark of 3.6 million in 2012. The race had 5.5 million viewers as recently as 2007 on broadcast network ABC.

All 17 NASCAR races on cable this season have either had record-low viewership or the smallest audience in more than ten years. The race also earned the third-smallest audience ever for a Chase For the Cup telecast (dates back to 2004). This year's three Chase telecasts rank as the three least-watched ever, with last week's New Hampshire race dead last (2.9M). Six NASCAR races this season have had fewer than 3.5 million viewers, compared to zero in the nine previous seasons combined (excluding rainouts). Sports Media Watch / ShowBuzz Daily

CMS to paint restart lines on track
Charlotte Motor Speedway will paint lines on the track to denote where the restart zone begins and ends for this weekend's Sprint Cup and Xfinity races, a track official confirmed to NASCAR Talk. NASCAR marks the restart zone with lines on the outside wall but fans can't see that. Putting the lines on the track also could help NASCAR officiate restarts. Restarts have been a key topic the past two months. NASCAR has placed a senior series official near the restart zone to better monitor restarts and expanded the zone in recent weeks. An issue, though, could be the paint on the track because it could create wheelspin if a driver started at the beginning of the zone. NBC Sports

Scott County Woman Accused Of Paying Hitmen With NASCAR Memorabilia To Kill Step-Father
A 69-year old Scott County, Indiana man, Bill Reynolds, beat cancer but not his evil step-daughter according to the local sheriff's department. Reynolds' step-daughter, Johnetta Hall and two men, Jacob Mathis, 21, and Kerry Heald, 22, are accused of killing Reynolds at his Scott Count home on September 27, the same day he returned home after a several month hospital stay for the treatment of esophageal cancer.

According to Scott Co. Sheriff Dan McClain, police believe Hall hired Mathis and Heald to kill her step-father and paid them with NASCAR memorabilia Reynolds had collected so she and her mother could inherit Reynolds' property and his collection of more than a dozen classic cars.

US Officials Ask How ISIS Got So Many Toyota Trucks
ISIS militants race through Raqqa in a propaganda training film released online in September 2014
Terrorists love Toyotas. ISIS militants race through Raqqa in a propaganda training film released online in September 2014
U.S. counter-terror officials have asked Toyota, the world's second largest auto maker, to help them determine how ISIS has managed to acquire the large number of Toyota pick-up trucks and SUVs seen prominently in the terror group's propaganda videos in Iraq, Syria and Libya, ABC News has learned.

Toyota says it does not know how ISIS obtained the vehicles and is "supporting" the inquiry led by the Terror Financing unit of the Treasury Department -- part of a broad U.S. effort to prevent Western-made goods from ending up in the hands of the terror group.

"We briefed Treasury on Toyota's supply chains in the Middle East and the procedures that Toyota has in place to protect supply chain integrity," said Ed Lewis, Toyota's Washington-based director of public policy and communications.

"However we have clarified the rules in relation to fuel trimming with all teams for the avoidance of any doubt. Naturally all teams will seek to optimize any advantage they can especially when there is so small a margin between the cars. As a consequence, from time to time teams will interpret the rules in a way which wasn't intended. We have used this an opportunity to clarify the rules so there is no grey area and every team is clear about the intent of the rules."

Petit Le Mans - Post-Race Notebook
Westbrook's car plows grass at Road Atlanta
Westbrook's car plows grass at Road Atlanta

The season-ending TUDOR United SportsCar Championship's Petit Le Mans, run last Saturday entirely in the rain -proved one thing: This is an all-weather series, with all-weather drivers, teams, cars and fans.

As dusk arrived, the scheduled 10-hour race was shortened by almost two hours as the visibility, or lack of it, made driving through the rooster tails would be unsafe. But it also meant a premature end to the season championship fight in three of the four classes, with only Prototype Challenge decided early in the race.

Two drivers who would love a do-over are Richard Westbrook, of the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype, and Christina Nielsen, driver of the No. 007 TRG-AMR Aston Martin Vantage. Both came to Road Atlanta leading the driver points, both left heartbroken.

Lotus hits back at Sochi lock-out 'rumors'
(GMM)  Lotus on Wednesday hit back at what it called "paddock rumors".

Earlier reports suggested that, just like at Suzuka, the troubled Enstone team was locked out of its hospitality area at Sochi ahead of the weekend's Russian grand prix.

Indeed, paddock photos on Tuesday depicted a deserted garage and black and gold-clad staff sitting on the ground outside the apparently locked team building.

But, as it published on Twitter a couple of photos not only of an E23 monocoque in the pits but team staff inside the hospitality unit, Lotus insisted: "Thank you for all the sympathy, but we are in and we are busy eating!"
