Lorenzo lays down the law in FP3
Jorge Lorenzo smashes the lap record to continue his dominance at Motegi, 0.4s ahead of Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso.

Movistar Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo set the fastest ever lap by a MotoGP bike around the Twin Ring Motegi during Saturday morning's FP3, as riders tried to secure their automatic progress to Q2. Lorenzo's 1'44.089 continued his dominance from Friday and was almost three-tenths quicker than his own lap record from last year's race (1'44.350). The Spaniard clearly is not suffering any effects from his shoulder injury and finished 0.408s ahead of Ducati Team's Andrea Iannone.

Ferrari Files for Its Own IPO, Valued at $10 Billion
A YEAR AGO, Fiat Chrysler announced it would be spinning Ferrari off as its own company, offering around 10 percent of outstanding shares to the public. Today, Ferrari filed IPO paperwork to offer 17,175,000 shares on the NYSE, valuing the company around nearly $10 billion, at $48-$52 per share.

In today’s startup bubble, that valuation makes Ferrari - which will trade under the ticker symbol RACE - a "decacorn," along with the likes of Airbnb, Dropbox, Pinterest, and Snapchat.

ISC Q3 Revenue Down
While IndyCar races lose money by the boatload, NASCAR races continue to reap many millions in profits for track owners. IndyCar MUST be sold to someone who can turn the business around. Right now under current leadership, it's sucking wind.
ISC on Thursday reported a year-over-year decrease in net revenues and a $4M net loss for Q3 '15, but company execs said that results "beat their own forecasts," according to Clayton Park of the Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL.

ISC President John Saunders said that declines "were anticipated" because of the $400M Daytona Rising renovation project at Daytona Int'l Speedway, "which sharply reduced available seats for the races over the July 4th weekend, and the one-time decision to hold the Coke Zero 400 on Sunday night as opposed to Saturday, to 'herald the return of (television broadcaster) NBC to NASCAR.'"

Carl Edwards meet with the media
Carl Edwards
Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 19 Stanley Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing met with the media earlier today at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Below, is the transcript.

What would it mean to get the win here Saturday night and advance to the Eliminator round of the Chase?

“Winning here would be great. This is going to be one of the toughest rounds – we talked a little bit about it this week. It’s good to be driving a JGR Toyota though. We’ve been working really hard, the cars have been faster, we were fast in practice and we all feel pretty good – the balance feels pretty good. The tough thing is just to balance the car for the night race and right now conditions are so much different. Definitely a win would be huge. I do believe this round is going to be a real tough one.”

Lynn takes GP2 pole in dramatic session

Alex Lynn

Williams F1 test driver Alex Lynn grabbed his second GP2 pole position in a dramatic qualifying session at a wet/dry Sochi Autodrom: the DAMS racer set the best laptime of 2:01.850 in the dying minutes ahead of Series leader Stoffel Vandoorne and Alexander Rossi.

The pitlane opened in cooler temperatures than this morning’s free practice, and on a wet track. But as the clock ticked down, the conditions improved (but not enough that the drivers could switch to slick Pirelli tires), and so did the laptimes with the top spot switching hands constantly. It rapidly became clear that the pole position would be decided on everyone’s final attempt.

Russian GP: Practice 2 a washout (Update)
UPDATE
Vettel braves the elements
Vettel braves the elements

The times from practice 2 have been added below. Drivers complained about the slippery conditions, with several going off because of the large amounts of standing water on the track.

Rob Smedley, Williams Head of Performance Engineering: It was quite a stunted session today which stopped us from completing all of the work we wanted to. We had planned to run in the wet but we had a strange situation this afternoon in that half of the circuit was much wetter than the other half which made most of the tests null and void. We have been working on the wet set-up of the car and so wanted to get out at the end of FP2 to see the progress we have made. In a similar vein to our low speed corner work in Singapore, we seem to be making progress. We got through all of the bits and pieces we wanted to get through in terms of control systems and power unit set-up, and we have to go into tomorrow with a good plan for FP3 to get the car set-up for qualifying and the race.

McLaren tester and Series leader Stoffel Vandoorne was on top form in this morning’s free practice at the Sochi Autodrom: with a laptime of 1:45.326 – six tenths clear from Arthur Pic in P2, the Belgian easily topped the session laying his cards on the table before this afternoon’s qualifying session as title rival Alexander Rossi had a more challenging session and finished eighth.

The pitlane opened under grey skies and in cool temperatures. Raffaele Marciello was the first driver to feed onto the track on Medium Pirelli tires, but it was Alex Lynn who set the early pace ahead of the Italian. Vandoorne was next to go top, but Lynn was able to go even faster to reclaim P1.

Russian GP: Hulkenberg tops short session
Nico Hulkenberg
Nico Hulkenberg
A vehicle dumped diesel fuel on the track, which caused Free Practice 1 to be delayed 30 minute, and left the track slick even after the cleanup.

Ericsson and Alonso were the first out on the 3.637-mile (5.853-km) 18-turn (12 right and 6 left) Sochi street track for what was now a 60-minute FP1. Officials declared that the session was "wet" due to the chemicals used for the spill so the drivers were on the intermediate or full wet Pirelli tires.

Alonso, first on the slicks, posted the first lap time: 2:00.736. He then improved that to a 1:56.327 and then a 1:53.854 before spots of rain were felt.
