Mercedes, Ferrari, Honda and Renault are to hold a meeting with the FIA on Thursday to discuss a potential overhaul of Formula 1's engine rules, Motorsport.com reports.

Amid concerns that development restrictions and homologation deadlines are freezing in performance advantages too much, the sport's manufacturers have been called to discuss shaking things up to help make a more level playing field in the sport.

It is understood that teams bosses and senior engine representatives from all four of F1's car makers will be in attendance in a get-together that could have big ramifications for the competitive order in 2016 and beyond.

No rest for Sprint Cup teams testing Phoenix International Raceway
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams were slated to have a rare Sunday off after Saturday night's Bank of America 500. However, when rains pelted Charlotte Motor Speedway, the race was postponed until Sunday and that day of rest, relaxation and family time was suddenly gone.

With this season already pushing team members to the limit, four teams got even less rest after Sunday's 500-mile race, as they quickly turned around and headed to Phoenix International Raceway for a three-day test.

Drivers not happy with track cleanup (Update)
UPDATE A NASCAR executive said Monday that officials will talk to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch about their insistence they hit oil in Sunday's Bank of America 500 after the track surface had been examined. Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive VP and chief racing development officer, addressed the matter on "The Morning Drive" on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

"In this case, we did not see oil,'' O'Donnell said. "I can't debate Kyle and (Earnhardt), they're in the race cars. If they say they hit it, it's not something that we saw out there. We'll continue to talk to them and see what maybe we can improve on in the future. We had personnel even out on the track, getting down on almost their hands and knees to make sure there wasn't any.''

Mark Miles: Don't expect a closed cockpit in IndyCar
As told to the Indy Star:
Head injuries due to open cockpits have resulted in 1000's of open wheel drivers dying over the years. Expect more to die with this decision. Who will be next?
Q: The Justin Wilson accident report presented no pressing issues for safety improvement?

A: It reinforces the risks, I think, of the open cockpit and further energizes efforts in motor sport to try to reduce those risks.

Q: What's the state of that energy currently?

A: I was in an hour-and-a-half conversation with outside people who are involved in aerospace and NASA, people who do things like provide cockpit cover for jet fighters. First of all, it should be known that Formula 1, for a very long time has been working on this and it's fair to say they've had the lead. But (IndyCar safety consultant and Global Institute for Motorsports Safety member) Dr. Terry Trammell has really had all the information flowing from that work for a long time, so I think we've been totally plugged into it. So the call was very helpful in discussing with outside expert perspective all kinds of the hurdles.

VW credit rating cut by S&P
Volkswagen AG's credit rating was cut one level today by Standard & Poor's, which said the German carmaker's cheating on U.S. diesel-emissions tests indicates management weaknesses that may lead to a further debt downgrade.

S&P lowered the company's rating on long-term debt to A- the fourth-lowest investment grade, from A, and said another cut of as much as two notches is possible.

"VW has demonstrated material deficiencies in its management and governance and general risk-management framework," Alex Herbert, a London-based analyst at S&P, said in a statement. "VW's internal controls have been shown to be inadequate in preventing or identifying alleged illegal behavior” and the potential for other violations “represents a significant reputational and financial risk."

Bernie Ecclestone says F1 needs a Cosworth engine again
Bernie Ecclestone thinks Formula One needs a Cosworth customer engine for teams to turn to after seeing Red Bull edge closer towards quitting Formula One in Sochi.

On Friday a report in Auto Motor und Sport said Ferrari had decided against giving Red Bull an up-to-date or year-old engine in 2016, seemingly leaving the Milton Keynes team facing the prospect of attempting a return to Renault or walking away from the sport altogether. The only other option would be Honda, though the Japanese company has ruled out a supply deal as it attempts to rectify the problems which have plagued its return to the grid with McLaren in 2015.

Las Vegas removing 15,000 seats
Las Vegas Motor Speedway "is demolishing seat sections above Turns 3 and 4 ... to make room for a relocated high-end hospitality area and a new 25-space luxury RV section," according to Alan Snel of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL.

Speedway officials "are moving VIP hospitality, which has room for about 10,000 fans, to the new location from its former spot behind the grandstand."

The new VIP section, "to be used by corporate hospitality race fans and called, 'Vegas Village,' will offer a closer view of the 1.5-mile track and a panoramic view of the Las Vegas valley." Companies "buy blocks of at least 50 tickets to gain entry into the VIP hospitality area."

The new luxury RV spots "will be next to the new VIP hospitality location and offer high-end services to race fans." Each RV spot "is 30 feet wide and will cost $8,000 for the speedway's signature event," the Kobalt 400, on March 6. Each RV spot "will include free Wi-Fi, continental breakfasts, garage tours, scanners to listen to driver/team communications, access to a lounge, a 10 percent gift purchase discount and eight passes." The track "is removing 15,000 seats above those two turns to clear space for the new VIP hospitality and RV locations." Sam Hornish Jr., David Ragan could be sitting bench in 2016
Things looking fairly dire for Hornish
With just seven races left in the 2015 Sprint Cup season, Sam Hornish Jr. and David Ragan find themselves in similar predicaments: Looking to secure rides for 2016.

Hornish, who took over Richard Petty Motorsports' No. 9 Ford this season after spending the past three years in the XFINITY Series, needs additional sponsorship to be back in the car next year.

Ragan, who has been in Michael Waltrip's No. 55 Toyota since mid-May, is without a ride because MWR is closing its doors at season's end.

With few, if any, full-time Sprint Cup Series rides available for 2016, both Hornish and Ragan have limited options and, at least theoretically, limited time to get deals in place.

Adrian Newey has accused Red Bull’s rivals of being afraid to supply them with engines for 2016 and warned there was a real risk of the four times world champions walking away from Formula One.

“We’re possibly going to be forced out of Formula One -- Mercedes and Ferrari have refused to supply us out of fear,” Newey, the sport’s most successful designer, told Reuters in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

"Unfortunately, our relationship with Renault is pretty terminal -- there’s been too much of a marriage breakdown, so we have no engine," said Newey, who was in Abu Dhabi as head judge for the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy.

Pit road tangle ruins Charlotte race for both Kyles-Busch and Larson
Kyle Larson was running second, and Kyle Busch third, approaching pit road after NASCAR called the eighth caution of Sunday's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway because of fluid on the track. Busch feinted toward pit road, as he often does in similar situations. But as Busch steered his #18 Toyota to the right of the commitment cone at the entrance to pit road, Larson suddenly turned his #42 Chevy into Busch's path. Busch's car sustained minor damage, and Larson's spun on pit road, but both drivers drew commitment line violations that would send them to the back of the field for the subsequent restart on Lap 201 of 334. Neither driver recovered from the incident, as their winning chances disappeared with the contact. Busch subsequently slid in oil in the high groove and further hurt his car during contact with the outside wall.

Dr. Dieter Zetsche congratulates Formula One team
Dr. Dieter Zetsche
What an incredible moment for Mercedes-Benz! Congratulations to our team in Brackley and Brixworth who have worked so hard to make this achievement possible, winning a second world championship in a row.

After winning in 2014, we raised the bar again to secure this year's title, and we needed to because our rivals gave us plenty of headaches as they stepped up their performance. The work by our team is the perfect example of what drives Mercedes-Benz forward: the best technology. The most efficient hybrid petrol engine that our company has ever made, world-beating aerodynamics and intelligent design in every part of the W06 Hybrid racing car.

F1 to meet to consider 'token' rule change for 2016
With the way the mental midgets of F1 devised the 2016 rules, the engines will be frozen as of February and whoever has a HP advantage will keep it the entire year. Therefore, their competitors will have no chance to catch up.  Look for another boring Mercedes parade in 2016.
(GMM)  A meeting that could result in a change to the engine development 'tokens' regulations for 2016 will take place in the coming days.

The get-together comes amid concerns that Ferrari, but particularly Renault and Honda, have struggled to close the gap on dominant Mercedes this season under the existing regime.

In 2015, the manufacturers were allowed to continue using their performance development 'tokens' during the race season thanks to a loophole.

But that loophole will not exist in 2016, meaning that engine manufacturers will be theoretically unable to speed up their 'power units' beyond the end of next February.

"Today, what is written in the rules is that the four manufacturers have 25 tokens to use until 29 February," the FIA's Charlie Whiting confirmed to Brazil's Globo.

Thoughts of a Champion - Stoffel Vandoorne
Stoffel Vandoorne
Stoffel Vandoorne
GP2 Series: Stoffel Vandoorne, GP2 Series Champion. How does that sound?

Stoffel Vandoorne: It sounds pretty good! We knew before coming here that was our target. We could have done it yesterday, but things did not go 100% our way. But crossing the line in fourth today ahead of Alex Rossi was enough to do it. That's what counts in the end. The job is done and now I have two weekends left in the season: I will be relaxed and have no pressure. I will push really hard for a couple more victories and finish the season on a high. To be crowned with two rounds to spare, it shows all the work we've done this season and how good it's been together with ART. We've achieved great things over the past two years. We've broke nearly all the records this season. It's one that I will definitely remember forever.

Rossi wins feature race to keep title hopes alive
From left Gasly, Rossi and Vandoorne. There is no way the FIA is going to let an American win the title, so they only awarded half points for today's race, making it nearly impossible for Rossi to catch Vandoorne
From left Gasly, Rossi and Vandoorne. There is no way the FIA is going to let an American win the title, so they only awarded half points for today's race, making it nearly impossible for Rossi to catch Vandoorne
Alexander Rossi came out victorious in today’s eventful and shortened feature race at the Sochi Autodrom: the American whose goal was to finish ahead of Series leader Stoffel Vandoorne in order to keep his title hopes alive put in a skillful drive to win in spite of a red flag  period and a tricky race strategy in only 15 laps. Frenchman Pierre Gasly split the fighting pair on the podium to take second place.

It all happened at the start: when the lights went out, polesitter Alex Lynn made a perfect getaway to keep the lead. Vandoorne was slow away from the front row and bogged down to fourth as Rossi flew past him and moved up to P2. The American had to defend his position from a charging Arthur Pic at Turn 1 whilst Vandoorne lost another position to Gasly.

There was chaos further down the pack: Artem Markelov went too wide at Turn 2 and touched the wall attempting to re-join the track. Having no control of his machine, he crashed into the barrier collecting Sergio Canamasas and Marlon Stockinger on the way. Jordan King who had made contact earlier with Stockinger at Turn 2 also crashed into the wall a corner later. The safety car came out, but the race was rapidly red flagged as all four men came out of their cars unharmed.
