Top Fuel racer Steve Torrence remained the dominant car in the category on Friday and raced to the provisional qualifying lead in the category at the NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by WIX Filters at zMAX Dragway.
Ron Capps (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also provisional No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the fourth of six playoff events during the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.
NASCAR and Talladega Superspeedway Enter New Partnership With Sugarlands
Award-winning moonshine distillery Sugarlands Distilling Company, LLC. has entered the sport by signing agreements with both the sanctioning body and one of the most iconic tracks on the circuit, Talladega Superspeedway. The new partnerships designate Sugarlands Shine as the “Official Moonshine of NASCAR” and as the title partner of the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Trucks Series fall race, the Sugarlands Shine 250. The announcement was made Friday at Talladega Superspeedway, which is hosting its much anticipated NASCAR Playoff doubleheader weekend.

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is bringing fully-electric racing to Bern next season for the Julius Baer Swiss E-Prix - scheduled to take place on June 22.
The Swiss capital fills the last remaining spot on the season five calendar, after it was announced earlier this week that the electric street racing series is returning to Santiago in January. Audi has become the first manufacturer to present a customer team for the new era of the DTM: In the 2019 season, the W Racing Team (WRT), which is mainly known from GT racing, will become a part of the international touring car series. While forced to miss this weekend’s Motul Petit Le Mans, Spirit of Daytona team owner Troy Flis says they are working on options to return to IMSA competition next year, ideally as a full-time Cadillac DPi.V-R entrant.
“We’ve got everything we need to go racing,” Flis told Sportscar365. “We’ve just got to get some budget, get a partner. We’re looking to see what’s out there.
“If we have to, we will do other things too, other projects. We’re look at that as well.”

Hunting for their first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype class title, the No. 54 CORE autosport team’s efforts got off to a hot start on Thursday at Road Atlanta.
Colin Braun, who is co-driving in Saturday’s 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans with team owner Jon Bennett and endurance driver Romain Dumas, posted the fastest lap overall across the two afternoon practice sessions with a time of one minute, 11.669 seconds (127.586 mph).

Norman Nato led the way in night practice for Saturday’s Motul Petit Le Mans, leading a 1-2 for Tequila Patron ESM.
The Frenchman, in his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut, reeled off a 1:11.457 in the No. 2 Nissan Onroak DPi late in the 90-minute session to edge out teammate Pipo Derani by 0.090 seconds.
R-Motorsport to join DTM with Aston Martin in 2019

DTM looks ahead to the involvement of the renowned brand Aston Martin. ITR, promoter of the international touring-car series, welcomes the British manufacturer that will be represented by Team R-Motorsport on the DTM grid. Should the development of the racing cars based on the Aston Martin Vantage progress as scheduled, the squad could contest its first races as early as 2019.
The manufacturers Audi and BMW early announced their commitment to DTM and now, a third brand with outstanding motor-racing tradition enters the stage. Gerhard Berger, chairman of the DTM umbrella organisation ITR e.V. says: “This decision of a luxury sports-car manufacturer such as Aston Martin is a historic event for our series and a milestone for the international orientation of DTM.”

Swanson to Drive for Nolen Racing in USAC Silver Crown Series in 2019

Nolen Racing announced today that it will downsize from a two-car to a one-car USAC Silver Crown team in 2019, and that car will be driven by the winningest driver in series history, four-time and reigning champion Kody Swanson.
Team owner Gene Nolen also said he will field two asphalt sprint cars next year, not three as he has done in recent seasons. That program’s primary focus is the Pay Less Little 500 at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway, and Swanson and Shane Hollingsworth will drive those cars. Swanson gave Nolen his first Little 500 victory in May, while Hollingsworth finished third.
