Magnussen and McLaren confirm split
Kevin Magnussen
(GMM)  Kevin Magnussen and McLaren-Honda on Friday confirmed reports in the Danish media that the two sides have split.

The Copenhagen Post declared that the young Dane, who made his debut for the Woking team in 2014 but served only as the reserve this year, is "done at McLaren".

It explained that Honda-powered McLaren "won't be renewing" Magnussen's contract.

It is believed the famous British team will instead promote new GP2 champion Stoffel Vandoorne, who in recent races has been standing in for Magnussen as McLaren reserve while the Dane recovers from a broken hand.

Ferrari vows to veto engine cost cap plans
Arrivabene tells Wolff Ferrari is not going to sell engines at a loss
(GMM)  Ferrari has signaled its intention to veto any moves to cap the cost of engines in formula one.

In July, it emerged that the FIA planned to cap the cost of a supply of expensive customer 'power units' to just EUR 12 million per season, and as little as 8 million for a year-old version -- many millions cheaper than now.

Mercedes' Toto Wolff vowed to "sharpen our pencils" to try to make it happen, but Ferrari was less impressed with the plan.

NASCAR aiming to displace F1 as the biggest form of motorsports in the world
Expanding the international footprint of a sport long known as being all-American, WME-IMG has renewed every expiring NASCAR global media contract and signed several new distribution deals for the sport in major markets.

The agreements, reached over the past few months and set to be announced this week at the Sportel conference in Monaco, give NASCAR a presence in more than 140 countries outside the Americas, a 6 percent increase over 2014.

They include agreements in two BRIC countries: China, where LeTV has become the first network to air the sport specifically there (there previously was a pan-Asian deal that included China); and India, where Sony Entertainment Television has become the first distributor to air the sport since 2012.

Repsol Honda's Marquez had played second fiddle to Lorenzo in the morning's damp FP1 session at the Pramac Australian Grand Prix. Then, as the track dried and the sun came out (Track temp. 35˚C) in the afternoon it was the reigning MotoGP World Champion who ended the day on top. Marquez set a 1'29.383 to finish just five-hundredths of a second ahead of Lorenzo on the combined timesheet's, although he was still some way off the Pole Record set in 2014 (J. Penalty against Joe Gibbs Racing XFINITY Series team reduced
The National Motorsports Appeals Panel on Wednesday reduced a penalty against Joe Gibbs Racing's No. 54 XFINITY Series team for infractions at Chicagoland Speedway last month.

As a result, crew chief Chris Gayle was fined $12,500 and placed on probation through the end of the year, while team owner J.D. Gibbs was docked 10 series championship owner points.

Teams warned after Charlotte; Keselowski & Stewart lose pit selection
You may ask why do so many Sprint Cup cars fail inspection? Because cheaters prosper in NASCAR. If you're winning you're probably cheating and just have not been caught yet
NASCAR announced Wednesday that the sanctioning body has issued warnings to several teams -- including five in the Chase for the Sprint Cup -- following last weekend's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Most impacted are Chase driver Brad Keselowski and non-Chase driver Tony Stewart who will lose their pit selections for Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway as a result of their respective teams accumulating four written warnings. In streamlining its warning system back in August, NASCAR ruled that every fourth warning a team receives would result in automatic loss of pit selection at the next event.

The package was delivered to teams after an extensive collaborative process between NASCAR and industry stakeholders. The base package will include a 3.5-inch spoiler, a 0.25-inch front leading splitter edge and a 33-inch wide radiator pan. Comments from Aric Almirola on the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rules Package
Aric Almirola
"I really like the new rules package. It's a package that really puts the drivers more in control during the race. In the past, we've just flat-footed at the mile-and-a-half tracks, but now, you're working the gas and using the brake more, which allows for more passing. It's going to be more exciting for us, the fans and the sport overall. I really give credit to NASCAR for listening to the drivers and all the stakeholders in the sport. They studied it, took their time to get the best package possible and have now made a decision that's really the best for everyone. I think it's a big plus for our sport.

"I really enjoyed what we raced at Kentucky and Darlington earlier this year. In those races, the rules package provided more passing and brought a lot more excitement for the fans. It was really good for our team, too. Our cars were faster with that rules package, so I'm thrilled to see how we race with it next year."

Sir Stirling Moss: Enclosed cockpits in open-wheel racing ridiculous
Stirling Moss (L) thinks it is OK if more open wheel drivers die. Of course he grew up in an era where one died every week. If Lewis Hamilton (R) gets killed soon, that's quite OK in Moss's book. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but in our book Moss is an idiot.
While IndyCar mulls some type of enclosed cockpits or canopies in their race cars as early as 2017 to enhance driver safety, one racing legend scoffs at the notion that open-wheel racing should go down that path.

"I think it's ridiculous," Sir Stirling Moss told Road and Track at the recent Lime Rock Historic Festival. "Motor racing is dangerous. And one does it - some of us do it - because it is dangerous. I was one of those. And I think to go and put forward things like that is absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous."

It's the opinion of the 85-year-old Moss that safety elements in one form of open-wheel racing - namely, Formula 1 - are as good as they can be at the moment.

"I think quite honestly, most events have good flag marshaling, which is very important," Moss said. "The drivers know what they can do and they usually stick within their realistic limits.

City Of Charlotte Expects Struggling NASCAR HOF To Break Even In FY '16
After "racking up deficits" hovering around $1.5M annually for five of the past six years, the city of Charlotte expects the NASCAR HOF "to break even" in its FY '16, according to Julie Bird of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL.

The deficit "had been falling in recent years," as losses totaled $1.4M in FY '14, down 14% from $1.6M in '13. Deputy City Manager Ron Kimble said the goal was to "be in a break-even position or better" by FY '16, and "we've got a great chance of doing that."

Kimble added that the HOF "met its target to cut the deficit to $500,000" for FY '15. He "credited revenue growth and cost containment for the turnaround." The key part of cost cuts "was a debt-restructuring agreement with Bank of America and Wells Fargo."

Newly-published 2016 F1 rules causing a stir
Red Bull barred from using 2015 Ferrari engines
(GMM) F1's newly-published rules for 2016 are causing a stir on Wednesday.

The first apparent anomaly in the FIA's new regulations is the stipulation that a "maximum" of 20 grands prix may be held, even though Bernie Ecclestone has put forward a 21-race schedule featuring Azerbaijan for the first time.

Another feature of the 2016 rules is that year-old engine specifications have been ruled out.

This year, Manor has been running a 2014 Ferrari unit, while it was rumored that one solution for Red Bull and Toro Rosso for next year might be to use a 2015 'power unit' next year.
