Stick a fork in Caterham, they're all but done it would appear.
(GMM) Caterham is allowed to sit out the next two grands prix while it fights for survival.
As administrators take charge at Leafield, where for the past days the gates have been locked to staff, Saturday's equipment freight deadline for Austin and Brazil has loomed large.
F1 teams are contractually obliged to field two cars at every grand prix.
But with administrators working on behalf of unpaid creditors now taking over from the departed Colin Kolles-led management group, Bernie Ecclestone has agreed to allow Caterham to sit out the Austin-Brazil double header.

What is your mindset entering the 'Eliminator' round of the Chase?
"We talked about it earlier this week, but obviously excited about being part of it -- the final eight. Really these tracks are statistically my best race tracks in this Chase. I'm pretty excited about our chances. We've got a big obstacle ahead of us this weekend at Martinsville. We're just going to enjoy it, have fun and see where we all stack up."
Can you conserve tires at Martinsville to gain at advantage late in the race?
Fans can vote for Dragon Racing's Oriol Servia and other drivers with the Formula E FanBoost - now open for next month's Putrajaya ePrix.
Voting for Formula E’s interactive FanBoost feature is now open – www.fiaformulae.com/fanboost - one month to go before the championship’s second race in Putrajaya on November 22.
FanBoost allows fans to vote for their favourite driver giving them an extra ‘speed burst’ during the race, helping them to overtake or defend their position.
The three drivers with the most votes each receive a five-second power boost per car, per driver, temporarily increasing their car’s power from 150kw (202.5bhp) to 180kw (243bhp).
Benoit Dupont, Formula E’s sporting manager, said: “FanBoost is something that is not only unique to the FIA Formula E Championship but all sporting events as it allows fans to potentially influence the outcome of the race and to interact with the drivers rather than just watching at home. For race two, we have introduced voting in Chinese and Japanese languages with more languages available soon.”

Does this new Chase format change the dynamic of this race?
"It probably changes the dynamic of the race somewhat I guess. There are usually only a few that have a realistic shot -- now we have eight people that are tied again so certainly I think that's a lot different. It feels a lot different coming here being tied up. If you're not having a super great year like we had last year so it definitely changes it. It will change again at Homestead too."
Do you expect all eight Chase drivers to leave their tempers at the door for this race?
Federico Gastaldi DEPUTY TEAM PRINCIPAL Plotting the Renaissance Deputy Team Principal Federico Gastaldi looks ahead to the United States Grand Prix.
The Mercedes power unit announcement was made recently. Is this the start of a renaissance for the team?
That is the plan! Obviously it was something that was in the pipeline. Behind the scenes we realised it was time for a new direction and we are very happy we can finally confirm this publically. Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains have already made a positive impression and we believe that they will be a key ingredient for future success. It has become obvious this year that they have the most competitive package on the engine side. Their strengths, allied to ours, will form a potent combination in 2015 and create a special E23 Hybrid package. The partnership also forms a key ingredient for the long-term future of Lotus F1 Team.

Administrator becomes Caterham team boss (GMM) The Caterham saga took another bizarre twist on Friday as an administrator became the new team principal.
With the gates at Leafield still locked and Saturday's freight deadline for Austin now looming, the Colin Kolles-led management decided to step away from the beleaguered team.
In a statement, the team said it has agreed "to hand over management ... to the administrator, Mr. Finbarr O'Connell, in the higher interest of allowing the team to continue operating and preparing for the next events".
Asked by PA Sport news agency if that means he is now the team boss, O'Connell, working on behalf of unpaid creditors including a Malaysian bank, answered: "Yes, I think that is the case."

Kolles admits Caterham may miss Austin deadline (GMM) The clock is ticking down to struggling F1 backmarker Caterham's apparent collapse.
With the Saturday freight deadline for sending cars and equipment to Austin now just hours away, staff remain locked out of the Leafield factory while an unseemly spat continues to escalate between the team's former and current owners.
Former owner Tony Fernandes, the well-known Malaysian entrepreneur, broke his silence on Thursday by insisting that the new buyer called 'Engavest' has not paid up.
"There was no legal obligation to transfer the shares to them unless certain conditions - which included paying creditors - were met," he said.
Ferrari 458 Italia successor going turbo Over these past few months, we have written about a successor of the Ferrari 458 Italia considering the fact that the supercar has been in production for 5 years and it seems that the company will apply the same recipe for this model as it did with the California T. This basically means that the supercar will be getting a turbocharged engine which will be based on the 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 unit found on the front mid-engined, rear-wheel drive vehicle.
The new two-seater, which is internally known as the 142M, will be using the same aluminum platform currently found on the 458 models but it will be more powerful thanks to the new engine. The unit will have less than 4.0 liters in displacement and it will be comparable to newer vehicles in the segment, such as the McLaren 650S, with its 641 HP (471 kW), or the Lamborghini Huracan, which is coming with 602 HP (449 kW). The current 458 Italia has a 4.5 liter V8 engine under its hood, producing “just” 562 HP (419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. Autocar

Stick a fork in Caterham - staff locked out of Leafield factory (3rd Update)UPDATE #3 F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone is "stepping in to try and broker a deal between the new owners and founder Tony Fernandes." Caterham staff "now face a race against time to resolve the bitter dispute, with the cars scheduled to be shipped to Austin, Texas for the next race on Saturday." It seems highly unlikely that Caterham will make it to the grid in the U.S., "with Marcus Ericsson and Kamui Kobayashi’s chassis inaccessible." Ecclestone "has stepped in to try and cool tensions and keep the green cars on the grid." It "would be a PR disaster for F1 to lose a team in the middle of the season, putting off new entrants no end." Ecclestone said, “We’re trying to help in any way we can, which we do with anybody that has run into a difficult of difficulty. All I know is what I’ve been told. Not too sure it’s all true either." Tony Fernandes claims new owners never paid him to buy the team
Tony Fernandes faces legal action by the 'owners' of Caterham as the Formula One team stand on the brink of going out of business.
Caterham were bought from Malaysian entrepreneur Fernandes at the end of June by a consortium of Swiss and Middle Eastern businessmen, since when the organization has been forced to deal with numerous difficulties. Already facing an unlawful dismissal suit by a group of more than 30 staff axed over the summer, on Monday a supply company to the team – Caterham Sports Ltd – was placed in administration.
Crucially, however, the consortium claims AirAsia and QPR owner Fernandes, along with two other former owners of the F1 team, failed to act in good faith with regard to the transfer of shares of ownership.
Just nine days after winning the 2014 Formula One Constructors' World Championship, an air of calm glides across the Mercedes AMG team's headquarters in Brackley, Northamptonshire. Radio 2 plays quietly in the background as a group of journalists, including IBTimes UK, is given a tour of the factory.
But beneath the calm surface an 800-strong workforce is still waging war on multiple fronts. Its two drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, have a near-unassailable lead in the Drivers' Championship, but with just three races remaining either man could be crowned champion.
With one eye on making sure its drivers don't take each other out, the team is also focused on designing cars for both the 2015 and 2016 seasons at a factory that literally never sleeps. The drivers are the ones who ultimately cross the finish line, but they represent the mere tip of a technological iceberg.

NASCAR Turns To Microsoft And Windows 8 To Streamline Race Operations
Race Operations on the Surface tablet
Have you ever experienced the chest-rattling thrill of a NASCAR race up close and personal? There is a lot of effort involved before the green flag drops to start the race to make sure all of the vehicles comply with NASCAR rules, and—most importantly—that the vehicles are safe. The pre-race inspection is a tedious process, but thanks to a new app developed with the help of Microsoft, NASCAR officials and pit crews have greatly simplified things.
Until recently, the pre-race inspections were executed using a paper form. The form consisted of a hundred or so individual items broken into categories based on the type of inspection. That form would stay with the vehicle and follow it through the inspection process—providing little, if any, value beyond the immediate race. The process was slow, and tedious, and consumed nearly 25,000 sheets of paper per NASCAR season.
