Rosberg takes pole for USGP
Hamilton in the horrible conditions
The rain was just too much. Standing water caused race stewards for the USGP to cancel Q3 qualifying. Rosberg's Q2 effort means he will start on pole ahead of Hamilton, Ricciardo and Kvyat.

Sebastian Vettel was 5th but will take a 10 place grid penalty because Ferrari put a new engine in his car. That elevates Force India teammates Perez and Hulkenberg to 5th and 6th on the grid.

With Ferrari driver Raikkonen also getting a 10-place grid penalty for an engine change, Massa moves up to seventh with Verstappen eighth and Alonso in ninth.

Ecclestone is making Wolff whine
Toto's having a bad day. All Toto's engine customers are going to take the Ecclestone engine instead at 1/10th the cost
Toto Wolff is whining because Bernie Ecclestone is going to introduce an alternate engine for F1 that can beat his expensive hybrid engine (that all the fans hate) at 1/10th the cost. Does anyone have a crying towel they can send him?

"Yes, it can be done, but it's not what we would opt for because we've different objectives," Wolff told Autosport.

"The engine manufacturers decided to enter Formula 1 because the current concept fits with what is happening on the roads," he said.

"But then equally from the commercial rights holder the priority is to have a level playing field.

"Introducing a standard engine is a complex project because to be balanced against the current system you need to change the regulations.

CART would sometimes pull over 200,000 in Surfers. So Tony George cancelled the contract after 2008. We guess it wasn't good enough
197,872 fans have attended this year's Castrol Gold Coast 600 at Surfers Paradise.

V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton said the attendance was a seven per cent increase on last year's crowd of 184,732.

"This is biggest attendance we've had at the event on the Gold Coast since V8 Supercars started promoting it in 2012," he said.

"I want to thank our loyal and passionate fans for the support of this sensational event. To have 197,872 fans attend this year's Castrol Gold Coast 600 confirms its status as one of Queensland's biggest sporting events.

USGP: Qualifying delayed at rain soaked COTA (2nd Update)
UPDATE #2 Qualifying for the USGP at COTA has been postponed due to torrential rains, including remnants of Hurricane Patricia, that have soaked much of south-central Texas for much of the weekend. Qualifying has been re-scheduled for Sunday morning at 9am local time, however the forecast called for a 70% chance of rain on Sunday with a potential for flash flooding. The race is tentatively scheduled to begin at 2pm local time

10/24/15 Qualifying has been pushed back a further 30 min due to the weather, to 3:00 PM ET

10/24/15

Impossible conditions

At a still-sodden Austin circuit qualifying has been delayed by 30 minutes due to weather conditions. Rain and winds have lashed the area for the past two days, and don't show much signs of letting up. The skies are also very dark overhead.

It's very possible qualifying will not happen today, but it is now scheduled for 2:30 PM ET, 1:30 PM local time.

Kenseth: Logano 'lying' about wreck at Kansas Speedway
Logano spins leader Kenseth
Matt Kenseth indicated Friday he wasn't angry about being spun by Joey Logano in the final laps of Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway, but his words said otherwise.

"Someday he might mature a little bit," Kenseth said of Logano after the first practice Friday for the Campingworld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. "First of all, he should have stopped running his mouth, and he's lying when he says he didn't do it on purpose. He lifted the tires off the ground and offset it to the left. He's too good a race-car driver to do that by accident."

Pedrosa smashes lap record with Marquez
Dani Pedrosa
Dani Pedrosa has taken an incredible pole position for tomorrow's Malaysian GP - his first since Catalunya 2014 - and with it broken the current lap record by over seven tenths of a second. His teammate, Marc Marquez, secured second place on the grid, celebrating the team's third 1-2 start of 2015 (also in Sachsenring, Indianapolis).

With most riders aiming to complete three exits in qualifying, Pedrosa decided on only two and waited before exiting the garage in order to have more space on track without traffic. He executed his plan perfectly, and on his first flying lap he broke the lap record with his time of 1'59.053 - beating the 2014 record by 0.738 seconds (1'59.791 - Marquez) - and six tenths faster than second place Marquez.

NASCAR Kansas TV Ratings (2nd Update) UPDATE #2 A move from cable to broadcast gave NASCAR a much needed boost in the ratings, but the numbers were still low historically. NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Kansas, the fifth race in the Chase For the Cup, earned a 2.5 final rating and 4.0 million viewers on NBC last Sunday - up 8% in ratings and 12% in viewership from last year (2.3, 3.6M) but down 5% and 3%, respectively, from 2013 (2.6, 4.2M), both of which aired on ESPN, also a cable channel.

The last time the race aired on broadcast, 2009, it had a 3.2 and 5.3 million on ABC. The last time it aired on NBC, 2006, it had a 4.0 and 6.3 million. Joey Logano's win ranks as the highest rated and most-watched Chase For the Cup telecast this year, easily topping the previous highs of 1.9 and 3.2 million. It also ranks as the first NASCAR race since Darlington, which also aired on NBC, to have an increase in ratings or viewership. With that said, the race also ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched Chase For the Cup telecast ever on broadcast television -- falling below the previous mark of 2.9 and 4.7 million for the 2009 Martinsville race on ABC. Overall, the 2.5 rating is the lowest for any Sprint Cup race on broadcast since at least the 2003 season. Sports Media Watch
