Richard Petty Museum to Move Home  The Richard Petty Museum is coming home. After 10 years of being located in downtown Randleman, North Carolina, the museum that holds memorabilia and personal collections of the most decorated American stock car driver in history is going back home to Level Cross. The Museum will be located on the site of the original Petty Engineering and later Petty Enterprises race shop. The site currently is the home of Petty's Garage and the Petty Family Foundation.

The Museum was founded at the race shop in Level Cross in 1988 by Lynda Petty but moved to Randleman in 2003 after space demands of the expanding race operation. Randleman, the neighboring city where Richard Petty went to high school, then became the home of museum. With the race operation, Richard Petty Motorsports, now operating in Concord, North Carolina, it was decided to move the museum back to its original location. More ...

Alonso to have more medical checks
Alonso underneath a space blanket and wearing a neck brace in Abu Dhabi
(GMM)  Fernando Alonso on Monday admitted he is still in pain after a violent impact during the Abu Dhabi grand prix.

The Spaniard crashed over the curbs with such force in his duel with Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne that it triggered the alarm signaling a mandatory medical check.

The alarm is triggered when a force exceeding 15G is reached.

But Germany's Auto Motor und Sport said that although Alonso's medical light was triggered, the impact was actually lower than 15G. More ...

Hamilton sounds like a beaten man
Getting beaten by his teammate on a pretty consistent basis now has deflated Hamilton's ego
A forlorn Lewis Hamilton says he only has himself to blame after suffering a sharp downturn in form since the summer break.

While Hamilton's failure to build on his maiden victory for Mercedes in the Hungarian GP, erroneously seen at the time as a turning point in the title race, can be attributed to the stunning turn of speed developed by the ever-improving Red Bull team, less explicable is the Englishman's recent head-to-head record against Nico Rosberg.

Having had the better of the German during the first half of the campaign even when struggling to master his W04's brake system, Hamilton has lost out to his Mercedes team-mate in five of the last six races and been out-qualified four times during that period. More ...

Montoya has run-in with IRS (Update)  UPDATE
Juan Montoya
The Internal Revenue Service is demanding $2.7 million in extra taxes and penalties from race car driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who, it asserts, had $9.5 million in taxable income in 2007 and 2008, nearly four times the $2.4 million he and his wife reported on their joint tax returns for the two years.  In a previously unreported lawsuit filed in U.S. Tax Court, Montoya concedes that in those two years he had nearly $800,000 more in gross receipts, interest and partnership income than originally reported, but challenges the IRS’ other, even bigger dollar adjustments.

Montoya, a 38-year-old Colombian citizen who now lives in state and local income tax free Miami with his wife, Connie Freydell, and three children, is hardly the first driver to run into trouble with the IRS.  Coincidentally, he recently signed to drive in 2014 on the IndyCar team of Roger Penske, the billionaire CEO of Penske Automotive Group. That team already includes Brazilian Helio Castroneves, who placed second this year on the IndyCar circuit and is known beyond the track for winning Dancing With The Stars and for his 2009 jury acquittal on federal  felony tax fraud charges. V8 Supercars To Hold Emergency Tire Test  V8 Supercars "are taking the unprecedented step of taking a fully blown race car to Phillip Island on Wednesday for an emergency tire test amid fears the penultimate round of the championship could be ruined by a MotoGP style fiasco," according to James Phelps of the Sydney Daily Telegraph.

Phillip Island’s newly resurfaced track "made world-wide headlines last month when some of international sport’s highest paid athletes were hurled of their motorbikes with the road ripping up their rubber and prompting an emergency two-wheeled pit-stop." The "dramatic and highly rare rubber-related MotoGP carnage has V8 Supercars fearing for the safety of the 28 drivers who will take to the famous track" on Nov. 22. Daily Telegraph

Calado wins final race of GP2 season
From left, Dani Clos (MP Motorsport), James Calado (ART Grand Prix), Fabio Leimer (Racing Engineering)
James Calado dominated his rivals with a crushing display of speed and guile in sauna- like conditions to claim the final win of the season at today’s sprint race in Abu Dhabi ahead of Dani Clos and champion Fabio Leimer, while Sam Bird’s fourth place secured victory for his RUSSIAN TIME squad in the teams’ championship.

The win was set up at the start: front row starters Johnny Cecotto and Felipe Nasr had poor starts but left enough space for the Briton to slice between the pair and into the lead, and when they tripped over themselves at turn one Cecotto was spun around and tagged by American Alexander Rossi (who finished the season as the highest placed rookie), with Clos, Leimer, Daniel Abt and Bird sneaking through before the safety car emerged for the stricken vehicles. Rossi wins in Abu Dhabi, Leimer crowned champion
USA's Alexander Rossi celebrates race win
USA's Alexander Rossi converted yesterday’s pole to today’s win, but not without a fight: the American had to scrap his way back past Jolyon Palmer to take his maiden Series victory, but most eyes were trained on the fight behind them where Fabio Leimer lost a podium finish to Marcus Ericsson but had enough points in the bag to grab the 2013 GP2 Series title.

The action exploded right from the start, where front row starter and title contender Sam Bird stalled on the grid just as the lights went out: Rossi was slow off the line as Leimer and Palmer blew past the pair, and with the Swiss driver’s eyes on a bigger prize he gave way to the Briton at turn one, with the American making up for lost time by sliding inside Leimer at turn two before heading off after the race leader. Rossi lights up Abu Dhabi qualifying
Alexander Rossi, who leads the GP2 rookie standings, topped all comers on Friday evening under the lights. He's been carrying the backmarker Caterham team all year.  Today he was a full second faster than his teammate.  Too bad he wasn't driving for a top team.
Alexander Rossi has dominated this evening’s qualifying session in Abu Dhabi with an educational display of driving under lights to claim pole position from Sam Bird and Jolyon Palmer, leading for most of the session to annex the front of tomorrow afternoon’s feature race grid.

With lights blazing all around the circuit, the darkness beyond had at least taken the sting out of the extreme heat from this morning’s practice session as Stefano Coletti set the early pace, but it didn’t take long before Palmer and then Rossi took over the running, with the American sawing away at his own times as his rivals tried in vain to keep up.

With six minutes remaining in the session most of the field were about to start their fast laps for another shot at the top spot, led on track once again by Rossi, as Daniel Abt slowed as first a wheel nut and then his left rear wheel detached from his car, prompting a red flag period much to the annoyance of his rivals.
