Following another record sales month for the Chevrolet Bolt, the Tesla Model 3 is still languishing down in low volume territory.
GM reported 2,781 Bolts found new homes in October 2017, another record figure for the 238-mile BEV. Sales have been on the rise since late summer when the Bolt began to spread to states not named California. Chevrolet had promised the Bolt would reach nationwide availability by the start of September 2017, a date the company steadfastly adhered too.
NASCAR Announces Start Times for 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

Together with FOX, NBC, race teams and tracks, NASCAR today unveiled 2018 race start times and network coverage for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, including the DAYTONA 500 on FOX and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Championship on NBC.
As noted in the previously released schedule dates, key changes include the return of the DAYTONA 500 to President’s Day weekend for the historic 60th running of The Great American Race. Additionally, the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs will begin at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and include the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course as part of the first round.
The Trans Am Race Company has unveiled the 2018 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli schedule for its 52nd anniversary season, with the vast majority of the 2017 event platform returning.
“The 2018 schedule will once more see Trans Am visit iconic tracks with partners dedicated to growing and creating accessible, fan-friendly racing,” continued Clagett. “We’re proud to continue our partnership with SVRA to that effort, while including showcase weekends at Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Mid-Ohio, Road America, and Watkins Glen.”
The patriarch of the famed Kinser racing family has died at 86. Bob Kinser, whose only USAC National Sprint car win came at his home track, Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway in 1985, earned some 29 track and series championships, including four straight South Central Indiana Racing Association crowns.
Bob was inducted into the National Sprint Car all of Fame in 1999 and in 1981 he was inducted into the Hoosier Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
GP3 Series organizers are pleased to announce the 2018 calendar. This season, the Series will be contested over a total of nine rounds, one more than in 2017, with all rounds taking place as support events to the Formula One World Championship. Seven rounds will be held on European soil, including a new event at Le Castellet in France, with another addition to the calendar to be held in Sochi, Russia, with the campaign concluding once again at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi.

UPDATE A medical examiner has ruled the deaths of NASCAR driver Ted Christopher and an 81-year-old pilot in a Connecticut plane crash as accidental. The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause.
Medical officials said Thursday the September deaths of 59-year-old Christopher and the plane's pilot, Charles Dundas, were caused by blunt trauma. A toxicology report was turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.

On the positive side, Jimmie Johnson’s championship hopes are singular and crystal clear. He needs to win at Phoenix Raceway next weekend to earn a chance to defend his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series title at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 19.
That scenario, however, is a result of a frustrating 27th-place finish – three laps down to race winner Kevin Harvick -- in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
FIA Formula 2 Championship 2018 season calendar unveiled

The 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship calendar was confirmed today. For next season, it will consist of twelve rounds in total, all support events of the Formula One World Championship. Eight rounds will be held in Europe, including new venue Le Castellet in France, and there will be four flyaway events to complete the calendar, with the addition of new venue Sochi in Russia.

Auto Club & AAA Extends Partnership With Team Penske
Team Penske announced today that Auto Club of Southern California and AAA will continue its partnership with the team as sponsor of the No. 22 Ford Fusion driven by Joey Logano in the NASCAR Cup Series. The multi-year extension with Team Penske follows an announcement earlier this year that Logano will remain a driver for the team through the 2022 season and beyond.
Through the partnership with Team Penske, AAA will continue its primary sponsorship of the No. 22 Ford Fusion driven by Logano for three races over the next several seasons, including the events at Auto Club Speedway in March, Kansas Speedway in May and Texas Motor Speedway’s playoff event in November.

In rare come-from-behind fashion Ernie Francis, Jr., secured his seventh Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli win of the season at Circuit of The Americas with a last gasp pass over Lawrence Loshak on the final lap. Joining in the podium celebration with class victories were Jason Daskalos and Shane Lewis, in the TA3 and TA4.
Francis, who captured the season title a race prior at New Jersey Motorsports Park, began the race on pole in the No. 98 FramelessShowerDoors.com Ford Mustang but spent much of the race in pursuit of the lap. On the first of two restarts, Francis fell back to fourth position but diligently worked his way up through the field. For the final nine laps of the 29-lap race, Francis would settle in pursuit of TA debutant Loshak, in the No. 50 Pennzoil/GoShare Chevrolet Camaro, making his move on the inside of turn one on the 29th lap, taking the lead.

This weekend, Chevrolet is taking the opportunity to pay homage to Dale Earnhardt Jr., a key member of the Team Chevy family and a NASCAR fan favorite who is retiring at the end of this race season. The brand will debut a new TV spot celebrating the major milestones in Earnhardt Jr.’s 22-year professional racing career during the broadcast of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series AAA Texas 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway.
The 30-second spot, called “What a Ride,” features a collage of memories from Earnhardt Jr.’s career, including never-before-seen photos, and footage from defining moments like his two Daytona 500 victories and his 26 race wins.
Gilliland Captures Second-Straight NASCAR K&N Title
Todd Gilliland now has two NASCAR titles to his name as the 17-year-old Toyota driver captured his second-consecutive NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) championship at Kern County Raceway Park with a runner-up result on Saturday night.
The Sherrills Ford, North Carolina-native is the fourth Toyota driver to win a motorsports title this season, joining Harrison Burton (NASCAR K&N Pro Series East), CJ Greaves (TORC: The Off-Road Championship PRO 4) and Ryan Millen (American Rally Association 2WD) in capturing championships to date in 2017.
Shanghai International Circuit will host the SIC888, an 888-kilometer endurance race scheduled for Oct. 5-7, 2018 at China’s leading motorsport venue.
The event, a cooperation between the Shanghai Automobile and Motor Sports Association (SAMSA) and Shanghai International Circuit (SIC), promoter Nai Jiu, Motorsport Asia Limited and Yi-Hood Group, is aimed at the region’s GT and touring car teams.

Kotyk Stars, Provisionally Wins Walter Hayes Trophy Heat Race at Silverstone Jonathan Kotyk marked his Silverstone debut with an impressive drive in treacherous conditions this afternoon on Day One of the Walter Hayes Trophy event. Kotyk trailed Ireland’s Keith Donegan, who finished second in the Formula Ford Festival two weeks ago, across the finish line by a scant 0.144 of a second and later was awarded the victory after Donegan was penalized for his part in a last-lap incident with countryman Niall Murray. After 18 consecutive seasons in Cup, Matt Kenseth said he is taking a break from NASCAR's premier series after the 2017 season.
In his first expansive comments about the future since the announcement four months ago that he was losing his ride at Joe Gibbs Racing, Kenseth said Saturday during the taping of a NASCAR on NBC podcast episode (which will be posted early next week) that he will put a two-decade career on hiatus, possibly for good.

Williams Martini Racing confirmed today that Felipe Massa will leave the team at the end of the 2017 Formula One season.
Felipe made his debut with Williams in 2014. During the last four years, he has helped the team secure third place in the Constructors’ Championship in 2014 and 2015, and fifth place in 2016. After initially indicating he would retire at the end of last year, he returned at Williams’ request for the 2017 season, and the team currently stands fifth in the Constructors’ Championship.

Team owner Roger Penske has returned to sports car racing with Juan Pablo Montoya, Helio Castroneves, Simon Pagenaud, Graham Rahal, Dane Cameron and Ricky Taylor co-driving new Acura ARX-05s at the Rolex 24 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Prototype class.
Jay Frye locks in the 2018 IndyCar title for Team Penske
Roger Penske has far more money than any other team owner in IndyCar and he spends it to gain an unfair advantage. No one else can buy the shocks that his team uses to dominate the series.
Teams spend anywhere from $100,000 to $500,000 total on shocks per car a year. Multiple that by 22 cars and you are looking at millions of dollars spent and it does not even add a single new customer/fan in the grandstands or on TV.
In other words it's the latest example of how IndyCar wastes money that does not grow the sport.

Another Kiwi, Fabian Coulthard, who started the day second in the championship, had to crawl from his car after it flipped onto its roof at high-speed, following an incident which may have ended his title ambitions for 2017.
Paint Scheme Preview: Justice League schemes debut at Texas Hendrick Motorsports has lined up special "Justice League" paint schemes for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne's cars in Sunday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series AAA Texas 500, and the looks are "revisions to initial designs that were announced early Tuesday afternoon that had not been approved by NASCAR." The team and NASCAR "worked together closely to get approved designs in place before the cars left for Texas." Kahne’s car "originally had an all red design for The Flash on the driver side and a blue design for Superman on the left." Earnhardt’s car had a "green-and-yellow design for Aquaman on the driver side and a gray-and-red look on the right side for Cyborg." Both cars are now "mostly black on the front half." Team Penske and Miller Lite announced today that the original light beer will continue its relationship with the No. 2 Ford Fusion team and driver Brad Keselowski in 2018 and beyond. The renewal continues a partnership that began on the No. 2 Team Penske Ford in 1991 with driver Rusty Wallace.
The familiar white and blue Miller Lite paint scheme will adorn Keselowski’s car in 11 NASCAR Cup Series races in 2018. Miller Lite will continue to be an associate sponsor for the car and Keselowski throughout the balance of the NASCAR Cup Series season.

Team Penske and Discount Tire announced today that beginning in 2018, the world’s largest independent tire and wheel retailer will build on its established and successful partnership with the motorsports team and become a primary sponsor of the No. 2 Ford Fusion driven by 2012 champion Brad Keselowski in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS).
Under the new multiyear agreement, Discount Tire will provide primary partnership bookends to the 2018 MENCS season, beginning with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in February and concluding with Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November. Discount Tire will be featured as the primary sponsor of the No. 2 Ford for 10 races while continuing to serve as a prominent associate sponsor for the remainder of the schedule. Discount Tire will also continue as a primary sponsor of the No. 22 Ford Mustang in the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) for multiple races in 2018 and beyond.
WEC Shanghai Free Practice 2: Toyota and Ferrari on top

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing completed an encouraging opening day in China by setting the fastest lap time in practice for the 6 Hours of Shanghai, the penultimate round of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The #7 TS050 HYBRID of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez were quickest of all with their lap time in second practice, just 0.279secs slower than the 2016 pole position.
Sebastien Buemi, Anthony Davidson and Kazuki Nakajima, who won the previous race at Fuji Speedway in the #8 TS050 HYBRID, were second fastest as they seek a fourth victory of the season.
