The AAA Texas 500 was deemed official by NASCAR 41 laps from its scheduled finish Sunday night due to rain, to the chagrin of some. With berths at stake in the Championship 4 race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the question driver have faced was whether Chase races should weather-shortened. In its current elimination-style format, Texas was the second Chase race to be shortened by rain. Last year, the penultimate race at Phoenix International Raceway ran only 219 of the scheduled 312 laps. During his weekly appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's "The Morning Drive," Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, said the sanctioning body stands by its policy that a race is official once it reaches the halfway point.

Valencia aerial - grandstands all the way around and they will be 100% full
Michelin is on the way to Spain for the fourth and final time this season as the French company's neighbors hold host to the 18th and concluding round of the 2016 MotoGP Championship and the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana this Sunday.
The traditional season-ending event is held at the Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, situated near the village of Cheste just on the outskirts of the city of Valencia. Its unique design makes it the only stadium circuit on the calendar, with grandstands surrounding all sides of the track so fans can see most of the action from any vantage point. It is this unusual feature that adds to a very distinctive layout over the circuit's 4,005m distance. The anti-clockwise design features 14 corners, of which nine are left-hand and five are right-handed and a straight of just 650m, which is approached by a very fast left turn.
UPDATE Two potential bidders for Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix, "have walked away from talks, raising fears for the future of the Northamptonshire racetrack," according to Sylt & Tovey of the London TELEGRAPH.
Both Jaguar Land Rover and entrepreneur Lawrence Tomlinson, who owns the Ginetta car company, "have given up on securing deals which could inject much-needed funding into Silverstone’s owner, the British Racing Drivers’ Club."
Their decisions come at a critical time for the BRDC, with its accounts showing cash reserves fell to just £9,000 at the end of '15. This a "huge drop" on the almost £650,000 it had in the bank at the end of the previous year and "continues the steady decline from a peak" of £21.1M in '08.

Dale Jarrett was knocked in the head too many times
Concussions and how they're diagnosed were pushed back into the spotlight this weekend with the news that Matt DiBenedetto was put into NASCAR's concussion protocol and would miss the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The news brought criticism from Brad Keselowski about the nature of concussion diagnosis. During NBC's rain delay coverage for the Sunday's race at Texas Motor Speedway, analyst and Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett spoke about his experiences due to concussions he suffered during his Hall of Fame career.
"In three weeks I will be 60 years old and I do struggle with memory loss, with things in my brain I know probably came from some of those concussions, that's what I've been told," said Jarrett, who retired from racing in 2008. "Would it have happen anyway without the concussions that I went through? I'm not sure." NBC Sports

Barrichello on the outside fights to keep his lead in the rain
The tenth round of Brazilian V8 Stock Cars has brought an ingredient the series have not seen since April 2015: racing on a wet track. The usually hot Goiania spiced things up a little, putting the drivers to prove themselves on those conditions. The winners this Sunday afternoon were Rubens Barrichello, from the Medley Full Time team, and Atila Abreu, who scored his first win for the Shell Racing squad.
The championship leaders raced against each other on the first heat. Pole sitter Rubens Barrichello had to stay ahead of Felipe Fraga to shorten his points distance from the leader. Fraga tried to overtake the 44-year old driver, but Barrichello managed to keep his lead to win for the third time this season - although his other two wins were in the second heats.

NASCAR's next title sponsorship deal will be greatly reduced (2nd Update) UPDATE
Thanks to plummeting TV ratings brought by NBCSN, NASCAR's next title sponsor expected to pay a lot less
NASCAR had hoped to have a sponsor for its premier series signed by now, and there are plenty of nervous people in the garage awaiting any news. If NASCAR chief operating officer Brent Dewar is feeling the heat, he isn't showing it. He said NASCAR has talked to several companies, and negotiations continue as it seeks to replace Sprint after its 13-year run. NASCAR has known since December 2014 that Sprint would leave after this year. "We are in advanced discussions still with a number of companies for the entitlement of our series," Dewar said Friday.
"I've got nothing [final] to report today. We're working hard on it." Dewar wouldn't talk about any companies NASCAR has entered that advanced stage of discussions. When asked about a timeline, Dewar said it is important to find the right partner. "Some of the firms we're talking to can move pretty fast," Dewar said. "Some maybe not as fast."
Barrichello on pole position to narrow title chase
A happy Barrichello
Rubens Barrichello has got a clear plan in his mind: to take as many points as possible from his title rival Felipe Fraga. The first part he managed to accomplish Saturday afternoon in Goiania - the 2014 champion took pole position for round 10. He set two flying laps to take Marcos Gomes off from provisional pole. Championship leader Felipe Fraga starts third.
"At this moment it is like I am competing against the track, the time, against myself. It is where I give everything I have got. Because I think Felipe (Fraga) now starts to race in a more conservative mode - he has to save points, not risking them. On the other hand, I cannot afford to so - I have to aim for the victories", said Barrichello, who got his third pole position this season.
With Audi out of WEC, what happens to Joest Racing?
Audi is pulling out of WEC as VW corp focuses on superior electric cars
Joest Racing could remain in the FIA World Endurance Championship, with managing director Ralf Juttner having not ruled out a LMP1 non-hybrid solution, potentially even with an incarnation of next year's stillborn Audi R18 chassis.
Juttner, who has spent more than half of his 32-year motorsports career linked with Audi's factory prototype program, is working to keep the Reinhold Joest-owned team afloat following the German manufacturer's sudden departure from top-level prototype competition
"Of course it's a great team; it's one of the best in the world," Juttner told Sportscar365. "We are now facing the difficult task of finding something short-term.
