Lawyer: Custody battle delayed domestic assault claims against Kurt Busch
Driscoll (left) is in a court fight with her ex-husband over custody of their son, and now she is in a court fight with Busch.  Sounds like the problem may be Driscoll, not Busch.
Kurt Busch's ex-girlfriend waited nearly six weeks to file a domestic assault claim with police because she was locked in a custody battle over her son, the attorney for Patricia Driscoll said Saturday.

Mark Dycio told USA TODAY Sports that Driscoll did not immediately go to Dover (Del.) police after the alleged assault occurred on the advice of counsel. She's currently involved in a fight for custody over son Houston with her ex-husband.

"Part of that case is premised off the fact Ms. Driscoll, Mr. Busch and the child spent so much time together," Dycio said. "The father was concerned young Houston was being referred to in the paper by Mr. Busch as his stepson, his surrogate son, as Kurt Jr. Any allegations involving Mr. Busch would have had a material effect on that custody case.

"As any parent will tell you, their child is their primary concern. So legally, it took some time to work through the process of how Mr. Busch's situation with Ms. Driscoll would affect that custody case. It was only until that was resolved to a certain degree of satisfaction that we were able to pursue the second avenue."

Hamilton: spin cost me win
The championship battle between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton remains tight headed into the season-finale at Abu Dhabi
Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton says that a spin just before his second pit stop cost him the win in today's Brazilian Grand Prix. Hamilton's teammate Nico Rosberg was able to capitalize on the Brit's miscue and score his fifth victory of 2014 but first since the German Grand Prix in July.

"I think ultimately it cost the win," said Hamilton. "I was much quicker up until that point and on that lap, I had gone one second quicker as Nico pitted.

"I thought I was going to pit at the end of that lap and on next lap I had nothing [left on the tires].

"At the end of the day I locked the rears into Turn 4 and under rotation that spun me around, the second time it happened this weekend - no one's fault but mine."

Ecclestone to small teams: "don't spend as much"
Bernie Ecclestone: no financial assistance to Formula One's smaller teams
From Autosport -- Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone says the smaller teams should not expect any extra financial help from the sport's owners - but dismissed talk of a plan for third cars in 2015.

Despite Ecclestone telling Force India, Lotus and Sauber that he planned to speak to F1's owner CVC next week, he claims he has no intention of sorting out any financial matters for them. Instead, he reckons that the simplest solution to the current problems is for the smaller outfits to cut back their spending so they can guarantee their survival.

"I tell you the way forward: it is very easy. Don't spend as much," he said. "We are giving these teams collectively $900 million and that's enough. To survive in the way they have been surviving, start running the business like a business rather than a hobby."

Marquez beats Rossi in season finale at Valencia
Rossi leads Marquez

The race saw light rain fall, with Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Iannone electing to move onto bikes set up for the wet on lap 20, a decision which would prove costly for both.

Caterham begging raises $1.6 million in only 48 hours
Like homeless people, Caterham has begged and received $1.6 million so far.  They need $3.75m to make just one race.  You can run an entire IndyCar season for that much money and have a chance to win races.
Caterham have raised over $1.6 million in just 48 hours in their controversial bid to make the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The cash-strapped team's administrators revealed a plan on Friday to raise $3.75m in order to make the season finale in two weeks time.

The 'crowdfunding' scheme calls on fans to contribute a minimum of $1.60 in exchange for car parts, merchandise and even dinner with one of this year's drivers; Japan's Kamui Kobayashi or Swedish rookie Marcus Ericsson.

And in the hours ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, where neither Caterham nor Marussia, who went out of business earlier this week are competing, the Leafield-based team had hit seven figures. They have until Friday to raise the cash.

Busch: Kyle Busch calls NASCAR "pathetic"
Kyle Busch is growing tired of 'Kyle Busch cautions'
Kyle Busch, driving the No. 54 Monster Energy Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry, finished second in yesterday's DAV 200 - Honoring American Veterans at Phoenix International Raceway. Busch led 187 0f 206 laps, however, was passed on late race restart by eventual winner Brad Keselowski.

As for the caution by NASCAR, Busch was none too pleased. In Toyota Racing's press release, Busch had some strong words for NASCAR:

"Everything was fine just my car wouldn't quite turn as good on the restarts as it needed to.  We were a little bit better after we got a couple laps going.  Brad (Keselowski) got his car to bend in the middle of (turns) three and four and got under me and got by me.  Just wouldn't take off on restarts very well.

Be there April 10-12
Coming from a background in finance, Kristen Engeron realized she had a lot to learn when she accepted the challenge of staging the first IndyCar race in Louisiana.

Stuff like where to secure 45,000 tires to be used as safety barriers for the Grand Prix of Louisiana, to be held at NOLA Motorsports Park. Tickets for the event, scheduled for April 10-12, go on sale Monday.

"Not only that, but literally the nuts and bolts of assembling them," said Engeron, who is president of the Avondale facility. "I can show you where and how to fasten the tires together. But this work has to be done very precisely, because the drivers are depending on us to keep things safe."

Townsend Bell to do TV and race again in 2015
NBCSN IndyCar analyst Townsend Bell will stay behind the wheel in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship next season, as he and Bill Sweedler will shift from AIM Autosport to Scuderia Corsa.

They'll share the No. 63 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 rather than the No. 555 entry. It keeps them together for another season in a GTD-spec 458 after also running a Lotus Evora (2012) and Ferrari F458 Italia (2013) previously in the American Le Mans Series.

"It goes without saying that we are very excited about joining Scuderia Corsa," Bell said in a release. "On many levels, this partnership will make a lot of sense. I'm thrilled to be continuing our relationship with Ferrari and to continue driving the Ferrari 458 Italia. Scuderia Corsa won two races last year, they are a championship winning team, and as a bonus for me it is great to be joining a team that is also based in Los Angeles where I live! I am looking forward to a lot of success with this program."

Q and A with 2014 IndyCar champ Will Power
Will Power
Will Power won the inaugural Quicken Loans Office Grand Prix last week ... on a tricycle.

It's been that kind of year for the talented, Australian-born racer. He won three Verizon IndyCar races in 2014 on his way to his first series championship after three years a runner-up.

In Detroit to kick off ticket sales for the 2015 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, Power and Penske teammate Helio Castroneves did some trike racing on Quicken Loans main call center floor (Quicken sponsors the Saturday and Sunday IndyCar races. Other heats feature sports cars and trucks) in the Chase Bank building downtown. The media ate it up. So did Quicken employees who got to rub shoulders with both winners of the 2014 Dual in Detroit.

Horner: Power gap very hard to close
Christian Horner knows that without an engine unfreeze, Renault will never catch up
With a big push being made by teams to relax F1's engine freeze rules, Christian Horner believes that the situation is still tough for Mercedes' opposition.

And he feels the matter is particularly frustrating for his outfit - having faced numerous changes to aerodynamic rules over recent years that were aimed at holding back its dominant form.

"It's very difficult because with the chassis, if you're behind, you have the opportunity to develop," he said.

"With the engine and this new technology, you're freezing immature technology and it's very difficult therefore for the manufacturers to recover.

Ecclestone slams Caterham's 'begging bowl'
Ecclestone unhappy teams have to beg fans for money to stay afloat because F1 has become so expensive with their hybrid engine technology that sounds horrible and fans hate.
(GMM)  Bernie Ecclestone has joined those who are heavily critical of Caterham's plea for fans' money to get the struggling team back on track.

In administration and missing in Austin and Brazil, the outfit has launched a crowdfunding scheme to raise the almost $4 million it says it needs to make it to this year's Abu Dhabi finale.

It is a last roll of the dice for the beleaguered Tony Fernandes-founded outfit, with F1 chief executive Ecclestone warning on Saturday that if Caterham doesn't race in Abu Dhabi, the team will lose its place on the 2015 grid.

"Yes, absolutely," he told reporters at Interlagos.

"If I sit in a poker game and I can't afford to be there with the other people, I get killed and have to leave," the 84-year-old Briton added.

Brazilian GP: Rosberg stays fastest in superior Mercedes
Nico Rosberg, fastest in all three practice sessions, but when it comes race day Hamilton will likely smoke him.
After a sluggish start to the morning in which the Mercedes driver battled to dial into the changing circuit, the switch to soft rubber saw Nico Rosberg finish quickest in FP3.

Despite forecasts of rain, FP3 at the Interlagos circuit got underway on a dry track with just a few damp corners from overnight rain.

The Toro Rossos of Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat set the early pace before Kevin Magnussen and Valtteri Bottas entered the fray. The duo traded blows at the front while the Mercedes duo had a slow start to the session.

      Brazilian GP: Friday Quotes

      Red Bull-Renault

Daniel Ricciardo (4th, 1:12.956): "It was a really good Friday for us and I think we learnt a lot, so a positive day. It's a lot smoother on the track now, it was slippery this morning, but once it cleaned up the grip is really good and it's a good surface. In dry conditions, I think we're good enough for the second row and if it rains, then who knows - maybe the front row can be possible."

Sebastian Vettel (9th, 1:13.333): "The day overall was okay, I had some issues and we didn't get that much running today, but that was mostly due to the red flags which was the same for everyone. The grip seems fairly high on the new asphalt and they made the track smoother apart from the main straight. If it's wet then I think it brings things closer to us, but even in the dry if we get everything right we should be in a reasonable place, it's a short lap so it will be quite tight."
