Wolff dismisses talk of 2016 engine spending war
Toto Wolff
Mercedes Motorsport boss Toto Wolff has dismissed talk of an engine spending war in 2016.

As his team prepares for a season finale in which one its drivers will be crowned world champion, Wolff has other things on his mind.

With Mercedes unwilling to allow a full engine-unfreeze for 2015, essentially allowing its rivals to close the gap but also make progress itself, those same rivals are threatening an all-out free-for-all in 2016.

For 2015, the regulations dictate that unanimous agreement is required for the unfreeze whilst in 2016 such changes can be made on a majority vote.

Fiat Chrysler (FCAU) Stock Higher Today - Buy Shares To Get Ferrari
Shares of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCAU) are up 5.36% to $12.30 after Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said existing investors will receive one share of Ferrari and one share of Fiat Chrysler for each Fiat Chrysler share after the Ferrari IPO.

Ferrari stock will be a boon to investors because of its growth potential, as it is expected to ship 8,600 units by 2018, up from 6,900 this year, Jonas said, adding that untapped growth potential combined with a lack of cyclical issues support a higher level of valuation.

Additionally, there is a "gold mine of opportunities and a lot of potential to capitalize on both the Ferrari name and Formula 1 brand," Jonas added.

Fiat Chrysler, the Italian-American automobile maker that owns Jeep, Dodge, Alfa Romeo and Maserati, plans to separate Ferrari via an initial public offering in 2015 to unlock $1 billion in funds for Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne to work with, according to MarketWatch. The Street

Ferrari will pay Fiat Chrysler $2.8 billion before its spinoff
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles estimates it will receive about 2.25 billion euros ($2.8 billion) from Ferrari before it spins off the supercar unit next year.

"Prior to the separation we also intend to enter into certain other transactions including distributions and transfers of cash from Ferrari currently estimated at 2.25 billion euros," FCA said today in a filing with U.S. regulators.

FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne, who is also Ferrari's chairman, plans to list 10 percent of Ferrari in the second or third quarter next year and distribute Fiat Chrysler's remaining 80 percent holding to the London-based company's own investors.

Toyota NCTWS Championship Contenders Press Conference
Matt Crafton is looking to repeat as NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion
MATT CRAFTON, No. 88 Menards Toyota Tundra, ThorSport Racing

How is contending for this year's championship different from last year?

"I feel a ton less pressure on me.  There is not one sleepless night that I've worried about if we're going to win this championship, how can we screw this thing up, how can we lose this thing.  Last year every two hours I'd wake up from about mid-season on, but now if it's meant to be it will be.  It's all about having fast trucks and we've had some very, very fast race trucks this year.  That starts with Junior (Carl Joiner, crew chief) and every one of the guys from there on down at the shop."

What has been the biggest improvement with the team from last year to this year?

Lopez: Crowndfunding sad
Gerard Lopez
From Autosport -- Lotus owner Gerard Lopez believes Caterham's need to seek crowdfunding to try to make it back on the grid is a 'sad' indication about the state that Formula 1 is in.

Caterham's administrators are seeking 2.35 million in funding to ensure they can afford to compete at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which would give them a chance of returning full-time in 2015.

But despite a promising level of backing during the early stages since the scheme was launched, Lopez believes the fact that a team has to get funding from fans is ridiculous considering how much money F1 earns.

"It's a one-off and I think it's sad," he said. "If you think about what it's being used for.

Denny Hamlin Media Day Quotes
Denny Hamlin says he's a lot more relaxed than last time he was in contention for the championship
DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What does it mean to be part of the final four competing for the championship?

"This is a very exciting week for us.  We had to face elimination three times throughout this Chase.  We didn't have a Chase win, so every elimination race -- there was a goal we had to accomplish to keep moving on -- and we were able to accomplish that.  I believe that our race team just keeps getting better every single week.  I know what I can do at this race track, we saw that last year and after the test we had, I'm very encouraged that we can go out here and have the speed that's capable of winning this race."

What are you doing differently this weekend compared to 2010?

Blomqvist and Giovinazzi take provisional 1-2 in Macau qualifying
Tom Blomqvist
The Jagonya Ayam with Carlin team made a strong start to their 2014 Macau GP campaign today, with front running pace in first practice followed by a provisional pole position for Tom Blomqvist, closely followed by team mate Antonio Giovinazzi in P2.  Sean Gelael spent most of today's practice and qualifying in the top ten, but dropped to 12th place due to a flurry of last minute improvements.

The 61st Macau Grand Prix runners had their first session on track this morning, with free practice giving them chance to get to grips with the challenging Guia Circuit.  Blomqvist was on the pace from the outset, trading places at the top of the timing screens with eventual session leader Lucas Auer.  It was team mate Giovinazzi who ended up closest to Auer at the flag though, setting the second fastest time, with Blomqvist third and Gelael a competitive tenth.

Ericsson cuts ties with Caterham F1 team
Marcus Ericsson - his money would go a lot further in IndyCar
Marcus Ericsson says he has severed his ties with the Caterham Formula 1 team with immediate effect.

The Swede, 24, made his F1 debut with Caterham this season, but has missed the past two races in the United States and Brazil after the team went into administration.

Caterham is attempting to return to the grid in Abu Dhabi via a crowdfunding scheme, and surpassed 50 per cent of its £2.35 million target on Tuesday.

But Ericsson, who is already confirmed at Sauber for 2015, has ruled himself out of a final race for Caterham should the team return.

Webber encourages Button to quit F1
Mark Webber
His future in F1 seemingly out of his hands, Jenson Button has been advised by former rival Mark Webber to head to Sports Cars.

Currently, Button is in F1 limbo, unsure whether he has an F1 drive in 2015 or not. With Fernando Alonso widely thought to be heading to McLaren, the future of the current drivers, Button and Kevin Magnussen remains up in the air.

Should the Spaniard return to Woking would the team opt to retain the Briton, who has a long-standing relationship with (2015 engine partner) Honda or rookie Magnussen who has (mostly) impressed in his first season. Whilst the Dane would be the less expensive option it is unlikely that Honda will be concerned about money at this stage.

Marcos Ambrose
Marcos Ambrose will make his final start in the #9 Stanley Ford this weekend at the Homestead-Miami Speedway for Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM). Ambrose will depart the organization as one of its most successful drivers. Since joining RPM in 2011, he has put the #9 Sprint Cup team in Victory Lane twice while also earning three poles. In addition, Ambrose has 33 Top-10 and 11 Top-Five finishes.

Ambrose will be most remembered as one of the best road course racers in the history of NASCAR.

"It's been about nine years since my family and I came over the 'water' to try out this experiment of NASCAR. And, it's been great. We've won races, had good runs and met a lot of wonderful people. But, it's time to take my family back across the 'pond' and go home. I made that decision this year, and once we did that, we started working towards that plan. That's what this year has been like, and everyone has been very supportive. We are finishing our NASCAR season, and we just want to spoil the guys in 'The Chase'.

Toyota NSCS: Homestead Notes & Quotes
Denny Hamlin celebrates victory earlier this season at Talladega
TOYOTA TIDBITS

DENNY CHASING FIRST CAMRY CUP TITLE:  Camry driver Denny Hamlin will contend for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) championship in Sunday's season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway and looks to earn his first NASCAR championship as well as the first Cup Series title for Toyota.  Hamlin advanced to the final round of the Chase with a fifth-place finish at Phoenix International Raceway last weekend, and will compete against Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and Ryan Newman for the title in a first to the finish line 'take all' contest.  Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Matt Kenseth just missed advancing to the final round by two points after a third-place result at Phoenix.

HAMLIN AT HOMESTEAD:  Hamlin is the only driver of the NSCS title contenders who has recorded a win at Homestead.  Hamlin is the defending race-winner at the 1.5-mile Florida oval after leading the field five times for 72 laps (of 267) en route to victory lane last November.  The 33-year-old Chesterfield, Va. native was also victorious at Homestead in 2009, and finished second in the championship battle the following year (2010).  Along with his two wins in Miami, Hamlin has posted four top-five finishes, five top-10 results -- including three of the last five races -- and has led 163 laps in nine career starts there.

Q & A with Lucas di Grassi
Lucas di Grassi won a wild inaugural Formula ePrix in Bejing
Lucas di Grassi wrote a small chapter in motorsport history by winning the season opening race in Beijing. Before round two in Malaysia (22 November), the Brazilian talks about the special challenges of Formula E, the interest from his fellow drivers and the aims for the next race.

The inaugural race in Beijing has long been over. How excited are you about Malaysia?

“Tremendously. After such a fantastic inaugural race in Beijing it’s hard having to wait for such a long time before being able to get into a Formula E car again, although, obviously, I’ve been fully concentrating on WEC in the meantime. But from now on everything will be a lot more fluid. The next races will be held almost at monthly intervals and there are only three weeks between Malaysia and Uruguay. That’s exactly the way I like it!”

In the meantime: what has been the response to Formula E?

If Newman wins championship he could set a record...no wins
Of the final four championship contenders, Ryan Newman is the only one who has not won a race. NASCAR has never had a winless champion in its top series. Ever. He has led just 41 laps all season and has just four top-five finishes, the lowest for a potential champion since 1949, when Red Byron won NASCAR's first championship with four top-fives in just six races.

Even if Newman wins the season finale, he will set a record for championship futility. He would become just the fifth driver to win the championship with just one win [1950 Bill Rexford in 17 races, 1961 Ned Jarrett in 46 races, 1973 Benny Parsons in 28 races and 2003 Matt Kenseth in 36 races], and the previous four each had more top-fives, more top-10s and more laps led. His 16 top-10s - assuming he finishes in the top 10 at Homestead - would be the fewest for a champion since 1950, when Bill Rexford had 11 in just 17 races. Sporting News

Red Bull’s $314m budget highlights Formula One inequality
Over $150 million per car per year.  One Red Bull costs more to field than the entire IndyCar paddock for a year.
The widening chasm between the haves and the have-nots in Formula One has reached new levels as The Independent can reveal that Red Bull Racing have spent a record $314m on their campaign this year.

The budget for the Milton Keynes-based team, who go into the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 23 November with no chance of winning a fifth consecutive World Championship, stands in stark contrast to the sport's backmarkers, who spend well under half of that figure.

Marussia went out of business on Friday after picking up just two points this year and spending $122m. The costs of last-placed Caterham came to $67m last year and they are trying to raise a further $4m through crowdfunding after the team went into administration last month.

Rahal Completed His Final Test of 2014 at Barber
Rahal
Graham Rahal completed a trouble-free day of testing today on the 2.38-mile Barber Motorsports Park road course in preparation for the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season.  He completed a total of 83 laps in what was his first time on track since the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season finale at Auto Club Speedway on August 30.  It was also his first test with Eddie Jones as his race engineer.

"It was a really good, and extremely productive day," said Graham Rahal, 25. "All things considered, I think the team is having fun again. With the new personnel we have in place, I think everyone is enjoying themselves and I think our teamwork showed it today and I'm excited about that.  We were very efficient, we accomplished a lot and we shaved a considerable amount of time, just over a second, off of what was done at the race. I feel like we're in a good spot. Eddie (Jones) is really very open to many ideas and he's ready for anything that can improve the car and improve our team.  I think there are some really good days ahead of us."

Mattiacci slams Mercedes
Marco Mattiacci with strong words for Mercedes.

(Editor's note: Ferrari boss Marco Mattiacci seems tired of being jerked around by Mercedes and the "we'll lift the engine freeze/we won't lift the engine freeze" charade.)

From ESPNF1.com -- Marco Mattiacci says Mercedes does not share the same values as Ferrari after talks about F1's engine freeze broke down during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.

Ferrari and Red Bull are leading the charge for an in-season window to work on engines, with development currently restricted to a token system over the winter. Mercedes offered a compromise allowing a smaller amount of tokens to be used during that window than its rivals initially proposed, leading to the talks collapsing at Interlagos.

Mattiacci is under no illusions why a solution could not be found in Brazil.

Nationwide Homestead: Keselowski in for Logano
Joey Logano will be going for his first Sprint Cup title Sunday at Homestead
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Team Penske will have Brad Keselowski race in this week's Nationwide Series finale instead of Joey Logano.

The decision announced Monday comes one day after Logano advanced to NASCAR's championship race while Keselowski was eliminated from the Chase for the Sprint Cup champion.

Logano will race Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway for his first NASCAR championship. Keselowski will also be in the Sprint Cup finale, but is not one of the four drivers eligible to win the title.

So Penske swapped drivers for Saturday's race, which will decide the owners' championship. Team Penske has a 29-point lead over Joe Gibbs Racing in the Nationwide standings following Keselowski's victory last weekend at Phoenix.

Highly respected US motorsport correspondent Steven Cole Smith confirmed the involvement of "an investment and management group" but did not disclose further details of it.

Larson can't fault Newman
The nudge Ryan Newman gave Kyle Larson at the end of yesterday's race at Phoenix, put Newman in the championship round of The Chase
Kyle Larson, driver of the #42 Target Chevrolet SS, commented on the last lap contact with Ryan Newman in yesterday's Quicken Loans 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Needing to finish 11th to make the Championship round of The Chase, the driver of the #31 Caterpillar Chevrolet bumped Larson in the last turn, which shuffled the 22-year-old down two places in the finishing order. Larson ultimately finished 13th. Newman qualified for next week's championship round at Homestead.

Larson provided the following quote to the Motor Racing Network

"I knew (Newman) was right around me and knew he needed to gain some spots to keep from getting eliminated from the Chase. It's a little upsetting he pushed me up to the wall, but I completely understand the situation he was in and can't fault him for being aggressive there. I think a lot of drivers out here would have done something similar if they were in that position."

Mercedes may be what's wrong with F1 (Update) UPDATE F1 has stepped on their dicks with their new engines that Mercedes campaigned hard for.  They are terribly expensive, bankrupting two teams with more to come, they are 8 seconds per lap slower and they sound horrible. Watch as Juan Montoya takes pole at Spa in 2005 from the then 'King of Spa', Kimi Raikkonen.  Turn up your volume and listen to the cars scream, watch how fast they are, and you will realize just how much the mental midgets have ruined the sport with today's cars.

Toyota NSCS: Phoenix Notes & Quotes
A third-place finish yesterday at Phoenix wasn't good enough for Matt Kenseth to advance to the Championship round
In the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship point standings, the four drivers moving into the final round to contend for the NSCS championship will start this Sunday's season-finale race at Homestead Miami Speedway with 5,000 points in the standings.

MATT KENSETH, No. 20 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Finishing Position: 3rd

How do you feel about your day?

"That was a great run for this Dollar General team.  We exceeded our expectations here.  It was great run for us and I'm proud of the guys for being third.  I wish we would have made it in, but last week was disastrous, so it was fun being here with a shot -- just wish we could have come through.  We just have to get faster.  Fortunately Denny (Hamlin) is in so hopefully Denny can go take it home at Homestead.  Definitely disappointed we didn't make it through but it's just been so up and down and our downs weren't good enough and our highs weren't high enough to make it into the next round.  These guys did a great job, this is the best we've ran here in a long time so I'm looking forward to Homestead next week."

Haas has not considered pulling Kurt Busch from car
Kurt Busch
Kurt Busch will continue to drive the #41 Chevy at Stewart-Haas Racing as long as co-owner Gene Haas has anything to do with it. Busch, who is being investigated by Dover (Del.) police for an alleged assault on ex-girlfriend Patricia Driscoll, will drive Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway, will be in the car next week at Homestead-Miami Speedway and continue to drive for the team for the foreseeable future, Haas said Sunday.

"He'll be in the car until someone else pulls him out," Haas told a small group of reporters before the Phoenix race. "I'm not pulling him out." Haas' company, Haas Automation, is the sponsor of Busch's car and will continue to be on the hood during the investigation, he said.

"I think we're just going to let the police department do their job and try not to say anything that would compromise that," he said. "We want an unbiased investigation and we'll see how it all plays out." Is Haas worried about what the investigation might find?

"The facts I know, I'm not concerned about it," he said. USA Today

Reduced Race Lengths for TUSC Events in 2015
The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will have reduced race lengths for five of its events next year, IMSA confirmed on Friday.

Events at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Road America, Virginia International Raceway and Circuit of The Americas have been trimmed down to 2 hour and 40-minute races, instead of the previous traditional 2 hour and 45-minute format.

Additionally, the new Prototype Challenge/GT Daytona-only event at Lime Rock Park in July has been confirmed as a two-hour race, the same length as the split Prototype/GT Le Mans and PC/GTD doubleheader at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

All four of the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup events (Daytona 24H; Sebring 12H, Watkins Glen 6H, Petit Le Mans 10H) remain unchanged, while both street races at Long Beach and Detroit will be 100-minute events, as was the case this year.
