Chevrolet Clinches 18th Bill France Performance Cup
With William Byron’s victory at Phoenix International Raceway, Chevrolet clinched the Bill France Performance Cup in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS). The 2017 achievement marks the 18th time the Bowtie Brand has captured this prestigious honor, more than any other manufacturer.
The triumph marks the third time Camaro has earned the award since becoming Chevrolet’s flagship nameplate in the Xfinity Series in 2013. The Camaro has earned 53 NXS victories since its debut.
Francis Jr. Wins at Daytona The 2017 Trans Am Finale at Daytona International Raceway saw teams and drivers battle early showers, multi-class traffic and an ever-changing track with Ernie Francis, Jr., and Tony Buffomante grabbing TA and TA2 class victories to close out the 2017 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli. Sharing in the spoils were Tim Kezman, in the TA3 class, and Todd Napieralski, finally capturing a 2017 TA4 victory after five second place finishes and nine podiums.
1987 Indianapolis 500 on ABC The ABC broadcast of the 1987 CART IndyCar Indianapolis 500. Mario Andretti dominated the race but Al Unser Sr. lucked into the win when Andretti's valve spring broke on his Chevy with less than 50 miles to go. Up until he broke, Andretti was five laps ahead of Unser. Andretti's engineer was Adrian Newey - now Chief Designer for the Red Bull F1 team. Bottas and Hamilton set near identical times as F1 is 99% car, 1% driver
Just 0.058s covered the four Mercedes and Ferrari drivers at the end of final practice in Brazil on Saturday but of course we know the Mercedes sandbag until qualifying and the race. The Silver Mercedes cars of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton headed the red Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, all of them nearly a second clear of the fifth-placed Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo.
Fernando Alonso was a strong seventh for McLaren, with teammate Stoffel Vandoorne also making the top ten behind the Force Indias of Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon and the second Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
Sunoco Becomes The Official Race Fuel of The Trans Am Series

The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli announced today that Sunoco Race Fuels has been named, “Official Race Fuel Of Trans Am.” The three-year agreement begins with the 2018 racing season.
“Our new relationship with Sunoco is a perfect example of what we mean when we say we honor the rich legacy of Trans Am, but also challenge the status quo,” said John Clagett, president of the Trans Am Race Company. “There’s no better example of a partner in that effort than Sunoco. Their brand is an authentic sponsorship platform backed by a long, successful history as they continue to extend their leadership in motorsports.”
New ARCA Racing Series Composite Body Testing at Talladega Gets Thumbs Up
ARCA held a sanctioned open test this week at Talladega Superspeedway, where teams used new composite material bodies for the first time at the 2.66-mile venue.
TALLADEGA, AL – After two days of testing new sleek composite-material bodies at Talladega Superspeedway, the ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards will return to the 33-degree banked venue for next year's General Tire 200 (April 27, 2018) in great anticipation.
A total of 16 drivers, including 2017 Series champion Austin Theriault, former Talladega winner Gus Dean along with Alabama natives Bret Holmes (Munford) and Thomas Praytor (Mobile), were on hand to give the bodies their first laps around Talladega. After being utilized at short and intermediate tracks this past season, the new bodies will be used at both restrictor plate tracks - Talladega and Daytona International Speedway - for the first time in ’18.

An icon in world motorsport, Jones has fronted a number of development series since his retirement from the sport, but in recent years has focused his attention more on his media career as an F1 analyst.

Ernie Francis, Jr., and Tony Buffomante captured the final pole positions of the 2017 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli today at Daytona International Raceway. Within the production ranks Lee Saunders secured his fourth consecutive TA3 pole at Daytona, while Ramin Abdolvahabi qualified pole for the TA4 class for his first career Trans Am pole.
For Francis, a Florida native and 2017 champion of the TA class, the pole marks his eighth of the season in this the 13th round. The lap, a 1:43.211 set from behind the wheel of the No. 98 Framelessshowerdoors.com Ford Mustang on the 3.56-mile course, was nearly a full second faster than the nearest qualifier.
Truex's owner has bypass surgery after heart attack
Furniture Row Racing team owner Barney Visser suffered a heart attack on Saturday Nov. 4 and underwent successful bypass surgery Monday Nov. 6 in Denver, Colo.
Due to the recommended recovery period for the procedure, he will not attend the final two NASCAR Cup Series races - this weekend at Phoenix Raceway and next weekend’s finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway where his driver Martin Truex Jr. will be one of the Championship 4 finalists vying for the season title.

Top Fuel title contender Brittany Force piloted her Monster Energy dragster to the quickest pass in Auto Club Raceway at Pomona history during qualifying at the 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals.
Jack Beckman (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Chip Ellis (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also preliminary qualifiers in their respective categories at the final event of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.
Force, who entered the race only 20 points behind first, put down a 3.667-second pass at 330.31 mph in the second qualifying session to take over the Top Fuel lead.

Sponsor Hugo Boss to drop F1 in favor of Formula E Long-time Formula 1 sponsor Hugo Boss has revealed it will drop its involvement with the premier motorsport series in favor of a new deal with Formula E.
The fashion brand has been a sponsor of McLaren for more than 30 years before it switched to Mercedes in 2015, but chief executive Mark Langer says they will now switch to sponsoring Formula E in the future, though didn't confirm with which team.
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) was quickest on Day 1 at the Motul Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana, taking to the top late on in FP2 as a number of high profile crashers also marked the session, including FP1’s fastest Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team). Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team), who has the most wins at Valencia across all classes, was second fastest behind Lorenzo, with Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) the fastest of the title challengers in third to complete the good news for the Borgo Panigale factory.
With dark clouds threatening, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas remained fastest in the 2nd practice session for the Brazilian GP Friday. What was largely a long-run race mode session, the two Mercedes drivers turned laps of 1m09.515s and 1m09.563s respectively.
In race trim the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo was third quick 0.228s behind Hamilton.
Troubled Tesla Inc. has quietly acquired Perbix, which designs robot production lines. Perbix was already a Tesla contractor.
"With the acquisition of Perbix, Tesla further advances its efforts to turn the factory itself into a product - to build the machine that makes the machine," the electric carmaker burbled on its website.
Mercedes duo bury competition in opening Brazilian GP practice

Using the latest Aldo Costa designed upgrades on the Mercedes F1 car, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas buried the competition in opening practice for the Brazilian GP at Interlagos. Up until now the focus was on the championship and Costa was conservative with his upgrades, but now that the titles are won he is already testing bits and pieces for 2018 and the Mercedes cars remain in a class of their own.
Hamilton's fast lap of 1m09.202s was 0.127s faster than his teammate while Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen was 3rd quick 0.542s behind Hamilton.
If there was a theme song for this weekend’s Classic 24 Hour At Daytona Presented by IMSA, it might be the 1978 Peaches & Herb hit, “Reunited.”
Clearly, for drivers like Joao Barbosa, Didier Theys and Memo Gidley, this week’s Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) event at Daytona International Speedway – as the song goes – “feels so good.” It’s the same feeling for the many other drivers, teams and sports car racing fans as well.
