Gary Gerould Taking 37 Years of Memories into TV Sunset
I feel like this isn't truly going to hit me until probably late next April or early May, when I'm not going to an airport or to a racetrack. -- Gary Gerould on retiring from motorsports announcing
For the past 37 years, Gary Gerould has been part of motorsports on television. This weekend, he's working his final event.

Gerould, a pit reporter since 2005 on ESPN's coverage of the NHRA, will retire from television after working Sunday's Auto Club NHRA Final) at Pomona, Calif. (ESPN2/ESPN3, Sunday). The race also is the last for ESPN's NHRA coverage, which has aired exclusively on the network since 2001.

Gerould first appeared on ESPN in the mid-1980s as a pit reporter on telecasts of CART IndyCar races. At the time, he was working for NBC, which televised the CART events in the U.S., and ESPN distributed the telecasts internationally.

"I remember the first time we went to Australia with the Indy Cars, I was totally blown away by the number of Aussie fans who just came up like I was a long lost friend," Gerould said. "I had to really think about it but then it just made sense because for several years we had had the Indy Car races on Australian television. That was kind of an eye-opener and it was pretty cool."

Borg-Warner Trophy and Stanley Cup Meet at Yard of Bricks
The Borg-Warner Trophy and the Stanley Cup
The Borg-Warner Trophy and the Stanley Cup
Two of the most iconic symbols of victory in sports - the Borg-Warner Trophy and the Stanley Cup - appeared together Thursday night for a photo session on the world famous Yard of Bricks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Stanley Cup appeared at IMS courtesy of the Indy Fuel, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.

The oldest professional sports trophy in North America, the Stanley Cup is presented annually to the National Hockey League champion. Beginning in 1893, the Stanley Cup became the ultimate prize for various amateur and professional hockey organizations. Since 1910, when the National Hockey Association took possession of the Stanley Cup, the trophy has been symbolic of professional hockey supremacy. Beginning in 1926, only NHL teams have competed for the Stanley Cup, which is the only professional sports trophy where the name of every member of the winning team is inscribed.

Weekend USA TV Ratings (2nd Update)
UPDATE The AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, broadcast this past Sunday on NBC, earned a 2.7 'final' rating and 4.551 million average viewers - down from last year on ESPN, where the race garnered a 2.8 rating with 4.749 million viewers. To have a network rating come in lower than a cable rating has to send shivers down the back of NASCAR and NBC execs.

11/10/15 A move from cable to Network TV gave NASCAR's Chase For the Cup a bump in the overnights. NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Texas, the eighth race in the Chase For the Cup, earned a 2.6 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon - up a tick from last year (2.5) and up 13% from 2013 (2.3), both on ESPN - a lowly cable channel.

The 2.6 is the highest for the fall Texas race since 2011 (2.8). The 2.6 is also the highest for any Chase For the Cup telecast this year, topping the previous high of 2.5 for Talladega on NBCSN, and the highest for any Sprint Cup race overall since Darlington on NBC over Labor Day weekend (3.4).

Force India Deputy Team Principal Says Engine Debate Part Of 'Battle For Control'
Bob Fernley
Force India believes the FIA's "push to reduce engine costs" in F1 is part of a "wider power battle for control of the sport," according to Jonathan Noble of MOTORSPORT.

FIA President Jean Todt and F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone want a standard engine introduced in '17 that will "allow independent teams access to a cheap power unit." Their plans are being met with resistance from manufacturers, however, who think that the sport "will not benefit from having different types of engines competing against each other."

Force India Deputy Team Principal Bob Fernley thinks that the issues go "far behind just power unit supply though."
