Hembery Says Pirelli Has Extended Deal With F1 For Three Years
Paul Hembery
Pirelli Motorsport Dir Paul Hembery said that the Italian tiremaker has signed a new deal and will continue to supply F1 with its product.

"It's done, everything is done. I mean you have the lawyers to sign off. You have three groups, you got the teams, you got the promoter and the FIA, but it's done," Hembery said at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. While Hembery did not go into detail about the new deal, it is expected that Pirelli will extend its expiring three-year deal for another three years and remain F1's tire supplier through ’16. Williams F1 Principal Says She's Not Worried About Finances  Williams F1 Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams said that there are “absolutely no concerns” around the team’s finances for next season, despite losing one of its main sponsors. Williams recently announced that Brazilian driver Felipe Massa will replace Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado in the team’s driver lineup for ’14 and as a result, PDVSA will end its deal with the team at the end of the year. The state-owned Venezuelan oil company will not be present on the team’s cars in ’14, but it will not further impact Williams’ ability to race next season.

Williams told SBD Global at the Circuit of the Americas, "When we looked at the PDVSA arrangement, we had to make sure that the outcome of that maintained that stability for the business. So looking ahead to next year, we wouldn’t have gone ahead with the arrangement that we made unless that was the case. We wouldn’t have entered into this arrangement if we weren’t sure that we had the budget to go racing for next year, so there are no concerns around that."

Busch shutting down Nationwide team  Kyle Busch said he is closing his Nationwide Series team because of a lack of sponsorship. Parker Kligerman ran the entire season for Busch in the #77 Toyota and had 13 top-10 finishes. Busch drove the car in 2012, when he went winless in the Nationwide Series. He went back to driving Joe Gibbs Racing's cars in Nationwide this year -- winning 12 times -- and used Kligerman in his Kyle Busch Motorsports car. Busch also fields three entries in the Truck Series and won Friday night's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It clinched the owners' championship for Busch, who won eight races as an owner. Busch had six victories and Darrell Wallace Jr. and 17-year-old Erik Jones also won for the team. Associated Press/ESPN

The Spaniard's participation in this weekend's US grand prix was in doubt, after he hurt his back in a violent ride over the curbs in a duel with Jean-Eric Vergne.

But Alonso released more details of the effects in Austin, revealing that his symptoms were even worse than was previously thought.

At the wheel of his Ferrari, however, Alonso is still at full speed, as evidenced by his sixth place in Austin qualifying, many places ahead of his teammate Felipe Massa. More ...

Sam Hornish Jr. out to put NASCAR struggles to rest (Update, fails)  UPDATE
Hornish won the pole on Saturday for the Nationwide race but NASCAR handed the title to the 'chosen one' Austin Dillon.  Does Hornish, a former IndyCar champion, think he will ever make it big in NASCAR?
Sam Hornish Jr. crossed off every goal in IndyCar before leaving the series for NASCAR.

With three championships and an Indianapolis 500 victory, he felt there was nothing left for him to achieve.

Now, with one of the best seats in the series suddenly open, Hornish hasn’t changed his mind.

Hornish said Friday he has no interest in returning to IndyCar to replace Dario Franchitti at Target Chip Ganassi Racing. Hornish said the team reached out to his representatives this week when Franchitti was told by doctors he can no longer race because of the risk of injury is too great. More ...

Patrick's 2013 season a struggle  It’s no secret that Danica Patrick has struggled mightily in her rookie season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, where she sits 27th in points. Saturday morning at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Patrick said she’s figured out one thing she needs to go faster: better race cars from her Stewart-Haas Racing team.

"At the end of the day the natural speed that is in the car does need to continue to get better," Patrick said prior to practice for tomorrow’s season-ending Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead. "I think this weekend was a show of that and so far for us I don’t think that’s a mystery." More ...

Briton Alex Lynn hits the jackpot in tense Formula 3 Macau GP
Alex Lynn
Alex Lynn won the 2013 running of the Star River-Windsor Arch Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix, leading home Antonio Félix da Costa in a tense encounter. At the 6.12 kilometers long Circuito da Guia, the third-placed of this year’s FIA Formula 3 European Championship finished ahead of Antonio Felix da Costa (Carlin), last year’s winner at Macau, who came second. Luis Felipe Derani (Fortec Motorsports), who also raced in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship this year, finished third.

Barely more than a second covered the pair throughout the second half of the race, Lynn showing nerves of steel to take his first win in Macau at just his second attempt. “I can’t really put it into words,” said the Theodore Racing by Prema driver. “I’ve dreamed of winning this race and ever since I left here finishing third [last year]. All I wanted to do is come back here and win and I can’t believe I’ve actually done it.” More ...

To Mario Andretti, IndyCar’s 2014 schedule is not plausible
Mario Andretti thinks Mark Miles (above) has the IndyCar schedule all wrong.  Miles also thinks it is better to collect the NBCSN check while the IndyCar series dies with 0.1 TV ratings.
When Mario Andretti speaks, you listen.

When Mario Andretti disagrees with something, you listen even more intensely.

When Mario Andretti calls the 2014 IndyCar schedule “not plausible,” you have to pause and realize the magnitude of the statement.

One of the living legend’s many roles is serving as an ambassador at the Circuit of the Americas, but I had the chance to catch up with him in the paddock earlier today and he did not mince his words about his frustration with the condensed schedule.

“It’s not plausible. I’ll fight Mark Miles on this the whole way. It’s diminishing the series,” Andretti said. More ...

Lowe admits Mercedes waiting on Brawn  The ongoing debate about when – or whether – Ross Brawn will decide to relinquish control of the Mercedes F1 team even has the Brackley squad itself waiting on a decision, with possible successor Paddy Lowe insisting that he is none the wiser as to his colleague's intentions.

Niki Lauda has already rubbished rumors that Brawn had decided to walk away from the team at the end of the season, insisting that he was still in talks with the highly-respected team principal. Amid denials that negotiations had broken down, and outside suggestions that Brawn has decided that, unable to get the assurances he wants with regard to his stature in the inflated Mercedes technical hierarchy, he would sever his ties with the team, Lowe also claimed that there had been no decision. F1 discusses further cost cutting proposals - F1technical.net   Bernie Ecclestone, the FIA and the team principals of the Formula One teams are currently discussing a number of radical proposals that should see costs in F1 dramatically reduced.

German publication Auto Motor und Sport has learned that the main focus is now on limiting the resources that are required to actually compete in the races. It is common nowadays that a race team is 60 people and that teams ship their own telemetry servers to each and every event. Brian France shares open letter to all NASCAR fans  NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France posted an open letter to fans on the NASCAR.com website on Friday. Courtesy of NASCAR, here's the letter in its entirety:

In a few short days, a dramatic 2013 season will end -- as will the milestone 10th Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

I have said a number of times that we created the Chase to provide fans with more high stakes, late season competition that goes right down to the final event. Now 10 years into the Chase, we can point to a number of instances which fit that description. You can look back at Kurt Busch's tight victory over Jimmie Johnson in the very first Chase.
