Atlanta Motor Speedway & Kentucky Speedway repaving in 2016 (Update - denied)
UPDATE Atlanta Motor Speedway posted on their twitter: A repave has been looked into, but at this time, there are not any plans to do so.  Kentucky Speedway may be due for a repave in 2016, but it's still plenty possible the track chooses to wait out another year with its bumpy surface. That's despite what Lane Construction Corporation's Danny James said in a recent interview circulating social media Wednesday. In a video published to Facebook, James said his company has been contracted to repave Kentucky Speedway and the Atlanta Motor Speedway, both owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc.

Rossi: With F1 outings complete, focus now turns to GP2
Alexander Rossi
Alexander Rossi
This week’s update comes with a heavier heart due to the tragic events in Paris over the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.

Formula 1, GP2 and the motorsports community have deep roots in France and particularly in Paris where the FIA headquarters are located. The whole sport had France in our thoughts and prayers for everyone affected by the horrible events that unfolded last Friday night. I was very proud with the way F1 paid tribute to France before the race and it was an honor to be a driver on the Brazilian Grand Prix grid.

Horner Says F1's Budget Engine Plan 'About Control'
If Horner is right then Bernie is basically giving the finger to Wolff and Arrivabene - I run this sport you don't
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner said that F1's plan "to introduce an alternative engine from 2017 ultimately comes down to a question of who runs the sport," according to Alan Baldwin of REUTERS.

Horner: "I think it's about who controls Formula One. At the moment you've got two very powerful engine manufacturers that are working closely together and then you've got the promoter and governing body and the engine is the catalyst of that. I think Jean (Todt) and Bernie (Ecclestone) are trying to get control of the sport back through the introduction of a cost-effective available engine."

IndyCar Canadian Race Broadcasts Show Marked Growth
Popularity of the Verizon IndyCar Series is increasing everywhere, including Canada - especially among a key younger demographic, according to INDYCAR's Canadian broadcast partner Sportsnet.

Overall viewership of Verizon IndyCar Series races on Sportsnet One increased 101 percent in 2015 over 2014 and showed a cumulative increase of 146 percent from 2013 to 2015. The coveted demographic of viewers 25 to 34 years old demonstrated a 10-fold increase from 2014 to 2015 on Sportsnet One. IndyCar PR

Is that why attendance and TV ratings are miniscule, because IndyCar is getting so popular? The press release only gives out percentages, and not cold hard viewer numbers. For example that 10-fold increase they talk about - maybe they had 1 viewer in 2014 and it increased to 10 in the 23-34 age category. They don't publish the real viewership numbers because it would be too embarrassing.

Red Bull F1 spent a record $450 million in 2015 and won nothing
The technology in F1 has sent the sport''s cost skyrocketing. 0.0001% of the fans on TV or in the grandstands care about the engine''s MGU-H, MGU-K and battery storage

Red Bull set new records last year, but they weren''t for winning races. According to the Daily Telegraph, the team spent a record $310 million of its own money last year. And while that''s reportedly the most an F1 team has ever spent in a single season, it''s not the whole story.

That sum represents just what the team itself spent for the year, and doesn''t include how much it took in from sponsorship and prize money. Add those in, and you''re looking upwards of $450 million. This compared to Ferrari, which ran its F1 team last year on a budget of under $440 million, and Mercedes, which had a much smaller (but still hardly negligible) budget of just over $320 million, which proved more than enough to dominate the championship.

As ever some of the world's best drivers will race head-to-head in identical cars on the exact same tarmac, so winners will be decided by driver skill alone. But while at traditional ROC events the drivers have raced side-by-side on a parallel track linked by a crossover bridge, the format will change this year. Now they will take part in an Olympic cycling-style pursuit race on an all-new track that is wider, faster and more spectacular than ever before.
