Yelloly promoted to win in GP3 season finale in Abu Dhabi
Status Grand Prix driver Nick Yelloly has been given victory in the final race of the GP3 Series season in Abu Dhabi.

A statement from GP3 read: 'Following the result of race 2, stewards have excluded Patric Niederhauser from the official results. Alonso to confirm future plans 'very soon'
Like 2007 above, Fernando Alonso will soon be back racing for Ron Dennis at McLaren
Fernando Alonso says he will be able to announce his future plans "very soon", after completing his final race with Ferrari.

Alonso's anticipated Ferrari exit was finally made official earlier in the week, followed by confirmation of Sebastian Vettel's arrival from Red Bull.

The Spaniard has been linked with a return to McLaren, which has delayed an announcement over its 2015 line-up until next month.

"It was a nice experience [at Ferrari] but I'm looking for better results," Alonso reflected, after narrowly beating team-mate Kimi Räikkönen to ninth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

GP3: Alex Lynn wins title
Alex Lynn
Alex Lynn won the GP3 Championship with the opening shots of the final weekend in Abu Dhabi when his lone rival failed to take pole and therefore could not keep his challenge going. The lingering tension over a few points at the last round threatened to distort the reality that Lynn's early season domination of the feature races had set him on a clear path to the championship from the beginning of the year.

In fact it was even earlier than that as the 21-year-old Red Bull Junior explained. "It started with the Estoril preseason test when we were P1. I hoped we could change the game, that was the plan and I think it worked. In the past it has taken teams and drivers a while to get things sorted out and the winner has a made a late charge. This is the first year that the championship has been won like this I am the first guy ever to lead from first qualifying to the last race."

GP2: Coletti wins, Vandoorne secures 2nd in championship
Italian Stefano Coletti was never headed
Stefano Coletti stormed off the front row to lead from lights to flag for a dominant win in the final race of the 2014 season, easily holding off newly signed Sauber driver Felipe Nasr and top rookie Arthur Pic, while behind them McLaren reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne did enough to deny Nasr the vice champion position.

As the lights went out Coletti and poleman Pic struggled to get off the line, with the Frenchman cutting left to defend from Stéphane Richelmi and Coletti forced to go well wide to get around the pair into turn one, leaving a gap on the inside to be claimed by Nasr for P3, which went one better after mugging Pic at the end of the straight as the Monegasque driver flew off into the distance.

2014 Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay with his son and wife
After his mother died of colon cancer in 2009, South Florida's race car driver Ryan Hunter-Reay dreamed of helping to find a cure and one day dedicating a cancer facility in his mother's honor.

On Friday, the Indianapolis 500 champion announced a $2.5 million gift to Cleveland Clinic Florida's new cancer center in Weston, where the lobby will be named for his mom, Lydia Hunter-Reay.  The gift is a joint donation from his own nonprofit organization, Racing for Cancer, and Fort Lauderdale-based retailer AutoNation, which has partnered with Hunter-Reay since last year to raise funds to fight cancer.

Alonso hits back at Mattiacci
Fernando Alonso tells Marco Mattiacci to shove it
Fernando Alonso has hit out at Ferrari Formula 1 team boss Marco Mattiacci following the Italian's comments on Friday in Abu Dhabi.

Ferrari confirmed earlier this week that Alonso would leave the team after five years together and Mattiacci said during the FIA press conference that Ferrari decided to sign Sebastian Vettel because it wanted a driver with the "utmost motivation and commitment".

Mattiacci added: "I'm sure he will bring the phenomenal experience that he went through Red Bull and the enthusiasm needed to go through certain difficult moments that are waiting for us."

Speaking after qualifying at the Yas Marina circuit Alonso, who was beaten by team-mate Kimi Raikkonen for only the third time this season, suggested the Italian only hired Vettel after giving up on trying to retain him.

Red Bull blocks Vettel from Ferrari test after saying yes
The four-time world champion is leaving Red Bull for the Scuderia after spending his entire racing career as a protege of the energy drink company.

He was expecting to join Ferrari for the Yas Marina test next week, but Red Bull has changed its mind because it fears he would take secrets with him.

"Yes," the German replied when asked if Red Bull had blocked the test.

"It is a shame, especially because initially I was allowed and then I wasn't. It is what it is.

Red Bull duo excluded from qualifying (Update) UPDATE Red Bull duo Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel will start the Abu Dhabi GP from the back of the grid following controversy over their front wing.
The team were forced to do some explaining to the stewards after the FIA declared there was excessive flex in the front wing flaps on both their cars during qualifying.

Ricciardo qualified fifth fastest at the Yas Marina Circuit on Saturday with Vettel one place lower, but FIA delegate Joe Bauer has found that the front wings on both RB10s were too flexible.

Bauer ruled that "the front wing flaps on the two RB10s were designed to flex under load, and in his opinion therefore fail to comply with Article 3.15 of the Formula One technical regulations which limits moveable aerodynamics".

Vandoorne dominates in Yas Marina
Stoffel Vandoorne wins by 12 seconds in Abu Dhabi
McLaren reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne continued his weekend-long display of speed and guile with a crushing win in this evening's feature race at Yas Marina, picking the right strategy and executing it to perfection for victory by 12 seconds over GP2 Series champion Jolyon Palmer and Mitch Evans.

The Belgian's start from pole was inch perfect, with fellow front row starter Palmer dropping back into the clutches of teammate Stephane Richelmi and a fast starting Felipe Nasr, who split the pair into turn 1 with Evans following before also making short work of Palmer into the harbor complex, just before a tangle between Rene Binder, Jon Lancaster and Marco Sorensen prompted a 2 lap safety car period to clean up the mess.

Perez re-purchases his ride with Force India
While countryman Esteban Gutierrez's check was not big enough to keep his ride at Sauber, Sergio Perez's check was large enough for him to buy another year with Force India
Sahara Force India is pleased to confirm that Sergio Perez has extended his contract (brought a large enough check from Carlos Slim) to continue racing with the team for 2015 and beyond.

The 24-year-old Mexican joined the team at the start of 2014 and enjoyed immediate success with a podium finish in only his third race for the team. Since then, he has continued to demonstrate his speed by scoring points in eleven races so far this season. The contract extension provides the opportunity for one of Formula One's brightest young talents to continue his association with one of the sport's most ambitious teams.

Dr Vijay Mallya, Team Principal and Managing Director: "I am delighted that Checo will continue with us. He's a true racer who has done a fantastic job for us this season. The whole team has been impressed with his speed and racecraft, as well as his role away from the track. He has a very bright future in Formula One and we will do our utmost to give him the equipment to match his talent. I look forward to celebrating more strong results with Checo this year and in years to come, and I cannot wait for Checo's first home Grand Prix in Mexico in front of his huge following of passionate fans."

Putrajaya ePrix post-race penalties
Venturi driver Nick Heidfeld was excluded from the final results of the Putrajaya ePrix
Venturi’s Nick Heidfeld has been excluded from the Putrajaya ePrix results after his pit stop car change was adjudged to have taken place outside of the permitted area.

His exclusion means his 19th-place finish cannot be counted as a dropped result at the end of the season.

Other penalties include the Trulli team being fined 5000 Euros for releasing Michela Cerruti from the pit in practice with one of the wheel nuts not having been properly tightened.

Katherine Legge will start with a 10-place grid penalty at her next race for Amlin Aguri as the team had to change the RESS device on her car. Legge was one of a number of drivers to pick up a drive-through penalty in the race. The others included Franck Montagny and Jarno Trulli.

Angry F1 teams happier after Mackenzie meeting
(GMM) F1's three angry teams seemed slightly less angry on Saturday after a meeting with Donald Mackenzie.

The usually paddock-shy CVC chief made the trip to Abu Dhabi to meet with Bernie Ecclestone and Lotus, Sauber and Force India, with the three teams crying foul over how the power and income is distributed within formula one.

Those in the F1 paddock said the body language of the three team chiefs, so exasperated in recent weeks that they had reverted to boycott threats, was notably more upbeat after the meeting broke.

Stoneman soars to Yas Marina victory
Dean Stoneman celebrates

The Koiranen GP ace got the better of pole-man Marvin Kirchhofer (ART Grand Prix) and held on to secure victory despite pressure from the German. Dino Zamparelli joined the pair on the rostrum in third.

Kirchhofer blitzed the opposition in qualifying yesterday to set his second pole of the season, but Stoneman was quicker away at the start and led before the first turn. Zamparelli was also on the move, making a brilliant start from fifth on the grid up to third. Newly crowned GP3 Champion Alex Lynn from Carlin lost a place at the start after running wide, with his teammate Emil Bernstorff one place ahead in fourth.

Sam Bird seals victory in the Putrajaya ePrix
From left, di Grassi, Bird and Buemi
PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA Sam Bird cruised to victory in the 2014 FIA Formula E Ycapital Management Putrajaya ePrix ahead of championship-leader Lucas di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi. The Virgin Racing driver crossed the line to pick up the full 25 points and clinch his maiden ePrix win.

Bird dedicated his win to former GP2 team-mate Jules Bianchi, who was severely injured in the Japanese Grand Prix: "I have to dedicate this win to a good friend of mine who is very ill. It's very sad what's happened to him and this one is for Jules. The weekend went really well, we were quick from the first outing and we were quickest in practice. Qualifying didn't quite go our way as I think we were not in the best group for doing a fast lap time but we put that right in the race. The first stint I was able to get a very good gap which meant we could take it easy and not make any silly mistakes, do some lift and coasting, and coast to the finish."

Formula E: Oriol Servia on pole
From left, Servia, Prost and D'Ambrosio
Oriol Servia will start the second-ever Formula E race from pole position but Nicolas Prost actually turned the fastest lap. The e.dams-Renault driver clocked a 1:21.779s ahead of Dragon Racing's Oriol Servia but the Frenchman will move back on the grid after picking up a grid penalty for the last-lap crash with Nick Heidfeld in Beijing.

Prost said: "My goal was just to stick it on pole so I could start 11th and that's what we did. The Beijing pole was a bit of a surprise but here felt really good. We'll have to see how the race goes, fastest lap would be great too but overall I'm really happy with the result and my performance."

Both Dragon Racing drivers put in a strong performance to lockout the front row of the grid but following a post-qualifying investigation Jerome d'Ambrosio was sent to the back of the grid for exceeding the maximum power usage.

Gutierrez probably knew his check wasn't big enough
Gutierrez knew his check wasn't big enough so he'll be a Friday morning track cleaner with a top team in 2015
Esteban Gutierrez has revealed that it was his decision to end negotiations with Sauber as it was not a "good direction" for his career.

After two seasons with Sauber and just six points - all of which he scored at the 2013 Japanese GP - Gutierrez is bidding farewell to the team.
Sauber announced earlier this month that Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr would make up its 2015 driver line-up.

That has left Gutierrez without a place on next season's grid, although the Mexican racer insists it was his choice to bring an end to the talks.

"The negotiations didn't go in the way that I felt was a good direction for my career," he toldCrash.net [Editor's Note: Read that as 'you need to bring a bigger check next year son']. "So it got decided not to go forward with the negotiation, to change and to take a risky path.

Friday quotes from Abu Dhabi

Red Bull-Renault

Sebastian Vettel (4th, 1:42.959): "I think we have improved the car today, but we can still improve more. The super soft tire seems pretty good for one lap, but I don't think they lasted very long, for everyone, and then we focused mainly on the harder compound. McLaren has made a step forward the last couple of races and the nature of the track here maybe suits them a bit better than other tracks, but it's Friday so I guess we will find out tomorrow. I don't really want to interfere with Mercedes in the race. It would be nice to race them and beat them, but I think realistically they are a bit far away. I want to get everything out of myself and the car and make sure I finish fourth in the Championship."

Daniel Ricciardo (6th, 1:43.183): "Nice and warm today! We got all the laps in, which was important and we got to run both compounds on the long runs, so I think we achieved all we could in terms of a run plan. Mercedes are - yeah I won't even mention them! But anyway, they're fighting for the title so we'll let them go, but as for the rest it looks pretty tight as always for third place. We'll definitely try and do something (with strategy). Anything can happen and it's the final race, so hopefully the strategy can work to our advantage someway. Sebastian looked competitive today and hopefully we're fighting for that spot on the podium, it would be nice to have a battle with him and end the season like that, it could be a good farewell for him and the team."

We have for example created FanBoost, which is a possibility for fans to vote on social media and online to push for their favorite driver. Thoughts of a Champion – Alex Lynn
Alex Lynn
GP3 Series: Alex Lynn, fifth GP3 Series Champion. How does that sound?

Alex Lynn: It sounds amazing. When I think back it's been a long journey since Estoril in March at the pre-season test. It's such a stressful thing to try and win the title; you're always under pressure and always trying to respond to everything. I've been really proud to lead the Series from the first moment in Barcelona right until the end. I've been working so hard all year and to be honest it does feel like a big relief to get it done.

European Union Urged To Investigate Formula 1's Billion-Dollar Finances
Which big teams will quit F1 if their payout is cut in half?
F1 will be put in the dock as a "demand to investigate" the sport's $1.57B finances is handed to the European Union, according to Kevin Eason of the London Times.

South East England MEP Anneliese Dodds has written to EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager over "grave concerns" about the way that the sport is run. Her request comes after the delivery of a "potentially explosive dossier outlining the secretive and complex world of the sport's finances."

Dodds: "There was an agreement made between F1 and the European Union about competition some years ago and it seems that has not been stuck to. There does not seem to be true competition in the sport and the fears are not just for jobs, but for technology and the profile of the sport."
