Elliott wins Snowball Derby after Bell disqualified
Chase Elliott
Chase Elliott

NASCAR Nation was buzzing Sunday and into Monday about the results of the 48th annual Snowball Derby Super Late Model Race.

Specifically, the chatter was regarding race winner Chase Elliott and the driver who crossed the start/finish line first. The two were not the same.

Christopher Bell, who won at Eldora in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in July, took the checkered flag in his Kyle Busch-owned entry before being disqualified less than an hour later for failing post-race technical inspection. That led to Elliott, who finished second to Bell, being declared the official winner -- Bell was formally scored 37th, last in the field.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. named Most Popular Driver yet again
Dale Jr. most popular again
Dale Jr. most popular again
The 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season was full of surprises.

But the name of the winner of the 2015 Sprint NMPA Most Popular Driver Award, announced Friday night during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Awards banquet at the Wynn in Las Vegas, wasn't one of them. As fully expected by pretty much everyone in attendance and watching on television, Dale Earnhardt Jr. captured the honor for the 13th consecutive year.

Only NASCAR Hall of Famer Bill Elliott has won the award more times than Earnhardt Jr., having earned it a record 16 times. Elliott, in fact, was the last driver besides Earnhardt Jr. to win the award, having done so in 2002.

As always, Earnhardt thanked the many fans who voted for him -- most of whom no doubt are proud, card-carrying members of Junior Nation.

(GMM) An unnamed team boss thinks Mercedes could seriously consider dropping Lewis Hamilton.

The German team's chief, Toto Wolff, warned dramatically after Hamilton won the 2015 title that, for the sake of harmony, the bitterness of the feud between the British driver and his teammate Nico Rosberg must stop.

It also followed Hamilton's sudden late-season performance slump, with theories suggesting he lost motivation or began to party too hard.

A social media post over the weekend on 'Snapchat' captured Hamilton obviously drunk and declaring in a video selfie: "We've had lots of vodka".

A sneak peek at Petersen Automotive Museum's $90M overhaul

Peterson Museum
Peterson Museum

Oozing with opulence and a display of ultra-rare, all-silver collectible cars, the exhibit in the new Bruce Meyer Family Gallery at the entirely redesigned Petersen Automotive Museum is called "Precious Metal" for good reason.

It features three Pebble Beach Concours best of show winners, including a 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe and a 1933 Duesenberg Model SJ Arlington Torpedo, both of which are displayed on pedestals like the art pieces they have come to be.

"Precious Metal" is one of 25 new exhibits that will open to the public Monday, but it's a title that could very well apply to the entirety of the new Petersen, which has undergone a 13-month radical transformation that has taken it from a dowdy and dated car display to a world-class automotive experience.

The first season of NASCAR's new television deal was good for its television partners, if not quite for the sport. The 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup season averaged 5.1 million viewers across FOX, Fox Sports 1, NBC and NBCSN, according to Sports Business Daily - down 4% from last year on FOX, TNT, ESPN and ABC (5.3M) and down 12% from 2013 across the same four networks (5.8M).

The Chase For the Cup in particular averaged 4.1 million viewers on NBC and NBCSN, down 6% from last year on ESPN and ABC (4.4M). Keep in mind that excludes races from Charlotte and Phoenix, both of which moved from NBC to NBCSN due to rain.

Fiat-Chrysler Recalls 105,000 Dodge Dart Sedans for Brake Failure
Fiat-Chrysler is recalling 105,458 Dodge Dart sedans for the potential loss of power-brake assist, the company said Friday. On 2013-2014 Dart sedans with the Tigershark 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter engine--but not models with the 1.4-liter turbo Multiair engine--oil may trickle through the brake vacuum hoses into the brake booster diaphragm and cause a loss of power assist.

FCA says it knows of at least seven accidents and two injuries that may be attributable to this defect, which can cause the brake pedal to feel overly stiff and result in longer stopping distances. A 'pop' or other sounds may identify a potential vacuum leak. Recall filings were not yet posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

ART Grand Prix's Charles Leclerc fastest overall in Yas Marina
Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc
Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc posted the quickest time in both the morning and afternoon session on the third and final day of post-season testing. His best laptime of 1:54.571 was 0.220ss faster than Kevin Joerg (testing for Arden International). Jake Hughes was third (Arden).

On day three of testing around the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, there was one new face to the line-up: Argentine Marcos Siebert came in to test the #20 Jenzer Motorsport machine. Koiranen GP's Matthew Parry led early on in the session ahead of Leclerc - the Monegasque driver returning to the French squad for the final day of the test.

Parry was first to dip into the 1m55's until Hughes went top. The Arden tester improved on his next lap to increase the deficit to Parry to 0.164s. There was a short stoppage in proceedings when Santino Ferrucci (Status Grand Prix) stopped on track.

Once the track was green, Joerg wasted no time in heading to the top of the timesheet to lap three tenths faster than Hughes. There was a second red flag period when Nabil Jeffri (Koiranen GP) made contact with the barrier at Turn 20 and damaged his rear wing.

Leclerc soon rose to second and on the following lap he climbed to the head of the timings as fellow ART GP tester Albon lapped third quickest. At the checkered flag Leclerc remained on top ahead of Joerg, Albon, Hughes, Leonardo Pulcini (Trident), Parry, Jack Aitken (Status Grand Prix), Konstantin Tereshchenko (Campos Racing), Ralph Boschung (Arden International) and Antonio Fuoco (Status).

As the final session of the season got underway - Boschung set the initial pace before Leclerc returned to the top spot. Hughes was first to break into the 1m55's before Albon bettered his time with Joerg up to third. Leclerc again showed his pace to re-take P1 with him and Albon trading the top spot numerous times as they both gained time. Swiss rookie Joerg lapped a tenth faster than the pair, but it was only a matter of moments before Leclerc reclaimed the head of the timesheet with the best time of the three day test-session. The Monegasque debutant was first set to set a time within the 1:54's which was six tenths faster than Joerg.

The Arden tester responded to close the margin down to two tenths as the clock ticked down but we and the remainder of the field were unable to challenge the marker laid down by Leclerc. At the checkered flag behind Leclerc and Joerg were: Pulcini, Tereshchenko, Albon, Parry, Aitken, Steijn Schothorst (Trident) and Santino Ferrucci (Status Grand Prix).
