Ecclestone Thinks Mercedes, Ferrari Rule-Making Stranglehold Could 'Destroy' The Sport
Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone said that Mercedes and Ferrari's stranglehold on rule-making risks "destroying" the sport, according to Andrew Benson of the BBC. F1's commercial boss said that Mercedes and Ferrari were "blocking changes he wants to make the sport more competitive."

Ecclestone said, "We're trying to save the sport and these people are trying to save it for their own good." He added that Ferrari had written a legal letter saying governing body FIA "did not have the right" to grant Ecclestone a "mandate" to make changes. Ecclestone said that the influence of Mercedes and Ferrari as engine suppliers to more than half the grid means they have "complete control" of the F1 Commission, the final stage of the legislative process before the World Council. He said that when Mercedes F1 Exec Dir Toto Wolff "puts his hand up and says Christmas is going to be 26 December, everybody agrees -- same with Ferrari."

Pirelli Chief Puts Forward Radical Plan To Stop F1 From 'Creating Own Downfall'
F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone "is to be presented with a fresh blueprint for Formula One" that would revolutionize the sport's scheduling, according to Paul Weaver of the London GUARDIAN.

The new format "would see three seasons within a season, with a separate series of races in Europe, the Americas and Australasia, with two meaningful breaks." The idea comes from Pirelli Motor Sport Dir Paul Hembery, who "enjoys a close working relationship with Ecclestone." It "follows last week's meeting of the FIA World Council, the sport's most important legislative body."

Video: Test Shows Top Fuel Nitro Engine Makes Over 11,000 Horsepower
Based on readings from a torque sensor developed by AVL Racing, the US Army Top Fuel dragster recorded a peak 11,051 horsepower during a recent test in California.

That surpasses even the most optimistic of estimates that the drag racing industry has tossed around for the past quarter century. Since a Top Fuel nitro engine could never be accurately measured on a dyno, it was left up to mathematicians and crew chiefs to crunch the numbers. Patrick Hale, developer of engine simulation software programs, first calculated that Eddie Hill's then record-setting run of 5.066 in 1988 required 4,000 horsepower. The number doubled to 8,000 following Doug Kalitta's 4.486 at 333.91 mph at Houston in 2003.

Villeneuve calls Hamilton a 'spoiled child'
I am the greatest
I am the greatest
Lewis Hamilton has been acting like a insolent twit.

Pretty much everyone is thinking it, but former Formula One champion Jacque Villeneuve is vocalizing it.

Since clinching this year's F1 championship in Austin in October (with three races left in the season), Hamilton has displayed some pretty arrogant and selfish behavior.

Lewis Hamilton On F1's High-Tech Cars, Desire To Race In NASCAR
F1 driver Lewis Hamilton appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night and said that he was unsure of what an F1 car was worth, as "not many people buy them."

Hamilton: "There are a lot of people on the team for two cars. We have 1,300 people to build those two cars. It's like the most high-tech (car). We could build a space rocket to send to outer space. It's crazy."

Kimmel brought up a picture of Hamilton on the awards podium after winning the Russian Grand Prix spraying Russian President Vladimir Putin with champagne.

Mike Joy on His Role, His Teammates and Readying for the Arrival of Jeff Gordon
Jeff Gordon (c) will be in the NASCAR FOX broadcast booth in 2016
Jeff Gordon (c) will be in the NASCAR FOX broadcast booth in 2016
FOX SPORTS:
You quarterback the FOX NASCAR booth, working the last 15 seasons with Hall-of-Famer Darrell Waltrip, known affectionately as “Jaws" for his copious gift of gab, and former crew chief Larry McReynolds, who moves to a new third-analyst role outside the booth in 2016 and may just be the most well-prepared person at the race track week in and week out. Where do you fit in the puzzle; what do you see as your role and how has the team chemistry evolved over the years?

JOY: I suppose as ringmaster, or maybe traffic cop.  My previous experience with network TV, as viewer, reporter and anchor, was that telecasts were centered by a well-known anchor, who would describe the action and solicit context and meaning from sport-specific analysts, then move on to the next play, or battle, or event unfolding.  Because it was such a technical sport, auto racing became the only "major" sport where successful anchors were recruited from within the sport.

Latest on Kevin Swindell
Kevin Swindell
Kevin Swindell
Kevin Swindell wrote a blog entry at OneDirt.com to update fans on his status following his wreck at the Knoxville Nationals in August.

"You could say I'm semi-paralyzed from the waist down. I can voluntarily kick both legs outward to a straight position. I can also lock out my knees enough to stand with a walker. I haven't gotten any movement back in my ankles or feet to this point, but the doctors and therapists say that the upper leg comes back before the lower. Right now I go to therapy for two hours, three days a week. I also just added an extra hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays to try and get as much as I can. I spend 30 minutes or so standing with the help of my therapist.

Ferrari already had someone steal from them so there is no way they would hire this guy if he is a thief
Ferrari distanced itself from the engineer at the heart of Formula 1’s "latest espionage scandal," confirming he will not be joining the Italian team in the "foreseeable future" as he fights a lawsuit from his own Mercedes team for allegedly stealing secret data, according to Daniel Johnson of the London TELEGRAPH.

Mercedes has "taken an action in the High Court against Benjamin Hoyle, who helped to develop the team’s dominant engine, for fear that he was planning on unlawfully taking secrets to Ferrari."

But Ferrari has "strongly denied ever offering Hoyle a job," even though they were in talks, as the Italian team looks "to quash any suggestions of industrial espionage."

Will your driverless car kill you so others may live?
Computers are taking over automobiles
Computers are taking over automobiles

It's 2025. You and your daughter are riding in a driverless car along Pacific Coast Highway. The autonomous vehicle rounds a corner and detects a crosswalk full of children. It brakes, but your lane is unexpectedly full of sand from a recent rock slide. It can't get traction. Your car does some calculations: If it continues braking, there's a 90% chance that it will kill at least three children. Should it save them by steering you and your daughter off the cliff?

This isn't an idle thought experiment. Driverless cars will be programmed to avoid collisions with pedestrians and other vehicles. They will also be programmed to protect the safety of their passengers. What happens in an emergency when these two aims come into conflict?

The rain this year hurt the attendance figures and caused the race to lose money
Circuit of the Americas officials "want to apply for what could be a few million dollars more in state incentives, as a concession for the expense of hosting the MotoGP race and Summer X Games," according to Marty Toohey of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN.

State lawmakers earlier this year "endorsed that idea," as long as COTA "proves the events are delivering the promised boost to the state economy." The state’s discussion "comes as the track’s finances have been making international news, and the additional money could buffer recent cutbacks the state made in its incentive package."

Harvick tops all drivers in season winnings

Busch may be champion but Harvick took home the most loot
Kyle Busch capped his 2015 championship season by earning a combined $8,393,925 from race winnings, special awards and from the Sprint Cup points fund. But it was Kevin Harvick who earned the most money among Sprint Cup drivers in 2015 at $11,730,460, according to NASCAR officials. A significant part of why Harvick amassed more earnings than the younger Busch brother was because the latter missed the first 11 races of the season recovering from racing-related injuries. A total of 44 drivers earned more than $1 million this past season.

Joey Logano earned the second-highest amount ($9,663,863) followed by Kyle Busch ($8,393,925), Jimmie Johnson ($8,152,877), Jeff Gordon ($7,614,469), Brad Keselowski ($7,477,096), Denny Hamlin ($7,473,268), Matt Kenseth ($6,806,416), Dale Earnhardt Jr. ($6,761,500) and Martin Truex Jr. ($6,751,609).

VW digs a deeper hole
AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--Long before Volkswagen AG's emissions-cheating scandal erupted, the German auto giant withheld information from regulators in the U.S., according to internal documents.

In 2004, the auto maker's U.S. environmental-compliance employees alerted their bosses in Germany that they believed that Volkswagen needed to tell regulators about a faulty emissions part. The Germans' response: don't.

Dozens of cars from Volkswagen's Audi NSU unit were returning to U.S. dealers with a broken sensor that could affect emissions in gasoline-powered engines. The number of defects triggered a legal requirement to include the part in mandatory reports to regulators, U.S. employees said.
