How can we make sure that driverless cars are safe?
Can humans process information better than computers?
Can humans process information better than computers?
Ready or not, the robots are coming. There will be cars driving themselves, with no steering wheel for us to grab. Delivery drones will maneuver around patio furniture and vegetable gardens to drop packages in backyards. Delivery carts on sidewalks will hum along, bringing pizza boxes to our front doors.

These systems will operate without any humans directly keeping an eye on them. This raises a huge question that everyone from government regulators to tech companies and safety advocates are wrestling with. If robots are driving us around, delivering our meals, babysitting the elderly, replacing doctors in operating rooms and fighting in wars, can we trust them to behave safely?

Stenhouse does a wheelie the entire length of the main straight as girlfriend Danica Patrick looks on

The 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season was not too kind to Roush Fenway Racing's Ricky Stenhouse Jr., but the former XFINITY Series champion was able to celebrate a victory before the end of the calendar year.

While other drivers are enjoying downtime during the NASCAR offseason, Stenhouse went back to his roots to compete in the Junior Knepper 55 USAC Midget event at the Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin, Illinois.

Involved in an accident on the opening lap, Stenhouse was forced to work his way from the back of the pack. While team owner Bryan Clauson and USAC ace Joey Saldana battled for the lead, Stenhouse kept fighting through the traffic. Getting his chance on the final restart, Stenhouse and Clauson battled for the lead over the final laps. Taking the lead with three laps to go, Stenhouse was able to hang on to earn the win.

Stenhouse's girlfriend, Sprint Cup Series driver Danica Patrick, was on hand and proud of his hard racing throughout.

Elon Musk responds to Bloomberg's story on self-driving tech, calling it 'inaccurate'
Wunderboy George Hotz
Wunderboy George Hotz usurps Tesla and Google?

On December 16th, Bloomberg published a story about 26-year-old George Hotz, a hacker who built a self-driving car in his garage in just about a month's time.

One of the bigger aspects of the story was the relationship between Hotz and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk.

According to Bloomberg's story, Musk told Hotz that if he built a better system than MobilEye, which builds driver-assistance technologies and provides an important "vision chip" for Tesla's cars to navigate by themselves, he would be rewarded with a "multimillion-dollar bonus … that pays out as soon as we discontinue MobilEye," Musk reportedly said in an email.

Two local developers are teaming to build a $50 million mixed-use project adjacent to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that would anchor the town's revitalized Main Street.

Loftus Robinson and Scannell Properties expect to start construction in the summer on the five-story building and finish in 2018. Plans call for 150 apartments, 10 condominiums, a 120-room hotel, 15,000 square feet of retail, and a 500-space parking garage.

The project is set to be constructed on 3.4 acres the developers are buying from the town at the southeast corner of the roundabout near the front door of IMS. The roundabout opened in November 2014 and links Crawfordsville Road and East 16th Street to Main Street, while closing Georgetown Road.

New Fiat 124 Spider is the Italian version of the Mazda MX-5

The Fiat 124 is longer, wider and half an inch shorter than the Miata, and its 160-hp turbocharged engine has five more horsepower than the Miata and produces 184 pounds-feet of torque, compared to the Miata's 148.

Villeneuve to miss Punta race
Jacques Villeneuve
Jacques Villeneuve has been forced to miss this afternoon's Julius Baer Punta del Este ePrix due to the damage his car sustained in qualifying.

The 1997 Formula 1 World Champion suffered a heavy crash at the penultimate corner during qualifying. He was unhurt, but the damage sustained to his Venturi chassis is too great to repair in time for the race at 16:00 (local time).

With the field already reduced to 18 entries following the withdrawal of Trulli, this means there will be just 17 drivers taking part in today's ePrix.

IndyCar Racer Matthew Brabham Interested in NASCAR
Matthew Brabham - NASCAR would love to get him for when the eventually buy the V8 Supercar series
Matthew Brabham knows that he can get paid to drive as a NASCAR driver. In IndyCar he will have to buy his ride.
So while Matthew Brabham (the grandson of three-time F1 Champion Sir Jack Brabham) remains focused on his upcoming IndyCar Series debut in May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the 21-year-old wouldn't entirely dismiss a career in NASCAR if the circumstances ever presented themselves.

His flirtation with NASCAR began in June when he tested a Late Model Stock at Hickory Motor Speedway with David Gilliland Racing. At the time, he was only racing part-time and still looking for the funding needed to advance his career into full-fledged Indy cars.

Knowing that opportunities in NASCAR were greater than those currently in open wheel, Brabham turned laps in a Late Model just to add the skillset to his resume.
