DPi's Get Power Increase for 2019
The Shit hit the fan when the LMP2 cars were eating theFrance Family's beloved DPIs lunch last year
The Shit hit the fan when the LMP2 cars were eating the France Family's beloved DPIs lunch last year. So God stepped in and made sure an LMP2 car can never take an overall win again

DPi's will head into the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season with additional power as well as reduced minimum weights, with LMP2 cars pegged back, IMSA has confirmed.

The sanctioning body released the initial 2019 Balance of Performance on Friday, ahead of next month’s Roar Before the Rolex 24 pre-season test at Daytona.

While wholesale changes have been made in all four classes, the new-for-2019 DPi category will see slightly more powerful cars compared to the combined Prototype class utilized over the last two seasons.

All four DPi manufacturers have seen a power increase, either through turbo boost adjustments or a larger air restrictor in the case of the Cadillac DPi-V.R, with maximum RPMs also increased for the Cadillac and Mazda RT24-P.

This Carbon-Free Supercapacitor Could Revolutionize Electric Vehicles
MIT Professsor Mircea Dinca
MIT Professsor Mircea Dinca
Supercapacitors offer quicker recharge and discharge times than batteries but suffer from diminished capacity. Most supercapacitors use porous carbon as active electrode materials, such as activated carbon, carbon nanotubes, and crosslinked or holey graphenes. These materials are difficult to produce, requiring harsh temperatures and chemicals.

Now a team from MIT has turned to extremely porous and sponge-like structures called metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to create a supercapacitor material with a surface area up to three times greater than carbon materials, according to a new paper published in Nature Materials. Unraveling just one gram of the substance is enough to cover an American football field.

While F1 is 99% car, and 1% driver talent, Formula E appears intent on 99.9% car and 0.1% driver talent.

A Chinese electric car is coming to the US (Update)
Qiantu EV is half Chinese half American
Qiantu EV is half Chinese half American

UPDATE Added additional photos below.

12/19/18 China wants to play in America’s car market. While US sales have plateaued around 17.2 million per year (paywall), it’s one of the most lucrative on the planet (and second in size only to the 28.88 million sold in China last year).

No Chinese brand has managed to break into the US market and establish itself as one that Americans will trust. If they were able to, they’re aiming to replicate the successes of Japan’s Toyota in the 1970s, and Korea’s Hyundai in the 1980s. Both overcame initial skepticism with inexpensive, well-built products that eventually stole market share from US manufacturers.
