Uber moves self-driving fleet to Arizona after program shut down in California
The most costly places to live in the USA are run by 'Tax your money and spend it to get reelected' democrats. These same democrats with their costly regulations ran Uber out of California.
In mid-December, Uber added San Francisco, California to the list of cities where the company is testing self-driving prototypes. However, the ride-sharing giant on Thursday said it was moving the prototypes to Phoenix, Arizona.
Uber never obtained a permit for testing self-driving cars on California’s roads, arguing that the permit applies only to cars that can drive without someone controlling or monitoring them, which isn’t the case for the company’s prototypes yet. From a technology perspective, Uber says its prototypes operate in the same way as vehicles equipped with advanced driver assist technologies, for example Tesla cars equipped with Autopilot.

There is something about the number "100" that makes it Bryan Herta's favorite. Appropriately so since the retired Indy car driver and current team owner claimed victories in two of the most noteworthy Indianapolis 500 Mile Races -- each with a significant "100" attached to it.
In 2011, Herta was team owner of Bryan Herta Autosport with the plan of competing in just one race -- the 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500. Herta hired his old friend from the Andretti Green Racing days -- Dan Wheldon -- to drive the car after Wheldon had left Panther Racing and was unable to find a fulltime ride in the Verizon IndyCar Series.

NASCAR Unsure Whether "Premier Series" Term Will Still Be Used With "Cup" Remaining NASCAR Senior VP & CMO Jill Gregory said it is to be determined whether the recently introduced term “premier series” will remain part of the NASCAR lexicon now that the term "Cup" remains in its top series' title writes Adam Stern of Sportsbusiness Daily.
While NASCAR deliberated about whether to keep "Cup" in the days leading up to its Dec. 1 announcement naming Monster Energy as its new title sponsor, the sanctioning body, teams and tracks in the sport began referring to the top series as its "premier series.”
Tesla most beloved brand despite Model X quality issues
The Tesla Model S is very good but the Model X gullwing doors are a disaster.
Consumer Reports found that a higher percentage of Tesla owners than any other car company would buy another Tesla, while the same publication rated Tesla a dismal number 25 out 29 car makers in reliability writes Chriss W. Streets of Breitbart.
In Consumer Reports‘ 2016 Owner Satisfaction Survey, Tesla ranked number 1 with more than 90 percent of current Tesla owners saying they would buy the brand a Tesla vehicle again, according to the latest.
ABC and NBC Sports Network to again split IndyCar broadcasts ABC and NBC Sports Network will again split the IndyCar race broadcasts in 2017. Of course ratings will be horrible on NBCSN again, which will continue to hold back IndyCar from growing. ABC will once again save the day and it will be their TV ratings that prevent IndyCar from going under completely. After 2018 the IndyCar contracts are up for renewal and one can only hope NBCSN is nowhere to be found after 2018. They do a good job on the broadcasts but their ratings are so bad across the board, if IndyCar is to ever regain its former glory they cannot have their races on NBCSN.

Driverless electric cars could cut air pollution to almost zero and make parking lots obsolete
You won't own a car in the future. An Uber EV will pick you up, drop you off and continue on to the next customer. The EVs won't pollute and will never park, eliminating air pollution and parking lots.
Self-driving electric cars could make car parks obsolete within the next 10 years and reduce air pollution to almost zero in Scotland's cities, an expert has predicted.
The vehicles are likely to be commonplace by 2030, said Simon Tricker, of "smart cities" specialist UrbanTide, which uses technology and data to improve city planning.
"Scottish local authorities are already thinking about what city streets will look like in a decade's time - and the answers are pretty astounding," he said.
"The pace at which electric vehicle technology is developing means they're also likely to be electric, so will produce zero emissions as they're driven.
"Taken together with an opening up of the data which will enable new services to link with waiting passengers, we're likely to see a huge shift in how our cities look and how transport is managed."

Beware the 28% of motorists looking at their phone
Drivers multitask all the time. Some are better at it than others. The ones that are not good at it crash.
New Year is the perfect time for drivers to commit to keeping their eyes firmly focused on the road, not their mobile phone. This is the warning from Exchange and Mart, after 28% of motorists it surveyed admitted to using their phone while driving. With nearly 1 in 3 motorists knowingly flouting the law when it comes to 'device driving', the UK's roads are a hazard for all road users.
Of those motorists who admitted to using their mobile, 5% said they didn't believe using a phone was any more distracting than adjusting the air-conditioning or tuning in the radio. The harsh reality is that mobile phone usage by drivers is the second most common cause of road traffic accidents in the UK.

Willy T. Ribbs (R) and Al Jr. and Robby Unser Forming a Trans-Am Team
If you aren't familiar with Willy T. Ribbs and the Trans Am Series, two things you should know:
Yes, Willy T. Ribbs is his real name, and yes, he is a black guy.
And Trans Am used to be this kickass series that raced Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs and other V-8-powered cars -- and cars with smaller engines years before -- on street courses and road courses, that sort of just faded away. Now it's back, and the racing is very good, but without a good TV package, a lot of actual race fans don't know it exists.
WSJ says The Car Of The Future Will Be Electric, Led By Tesla This week, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ)* asked, "investors to get ready for the coming electric car revolution." In the past, WSJ has been reluctant to embrace electric vehicles. So what made them finally come around? Looks like Tesla Motors [NASDAQ: TSLA] is having an effect. "Precisely when electric cars leave their current luxury or green-tech niches and--after many false starts--enter the mainstream depends above all on relative cost. On that front, electric vehicles have momentum... [and] Silicon Valley disrupter Tesla has shown that there is consumer demand for well-designed electric cars."

With the market share continuing to rise bit by bit, the Chinese EV market will end the year at over 350,000 new electric cars, pulling the total plug-in fleet to over 650,000 units, which will be the largest in the world, above the US (560,000) and Europe (630,000).

Georgia Tech football player skipping senior season to go pro in NASCAR Georgia Tech offensive tackle Eason Fromayan has had his fill of football, so he made what some might call an unconventional choice. After the Yellow Jackets play Kentucky in the TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida, next week, Fromayan will hang up his helmet and shoulder pads with one year of eligibility remaining and start training to earn a spot on a NASCAR pit crew. The transition feels natural to Fromayan, who has been an auto racing fan from childhood, rooting on Jeff Gordon (even dressing up like him for Halloween) and attending more races across the Southeast than he ever did football games.

After getting burned by filthy diesel engines, VW is going all-in with electric cars
The billions Volkswagen AG is required to provide to electrify transportation as part of its emissions scandal settlement will boost, and in some cases displace, a nascent industry writes Camille von Kaenel of EENews.
Volkswagen will invest $2 billion over the next 10 years on zero-emissions vehicle charging infrastructure, public education and ride-sharing to spur sales of clean cars and counter the environmental harm caused by its cheating of emission tests. States can also spend part of a separate $2.9 billion mitigation trust fund set up by the settlement to curb air pollution from diesel vehicles on electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. California has required Volkswagen to introduce and sell new EVs, including SUVs, and help pay for some incentives in the state.
