Team retains Matos, adds 2nd car Minden, NV – Based upon his remarkable talent and proven speed, Raphael Matos will continue to represent the Sierra Sierra team in the quest for the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic Championship.
Matos had a strong rookie season with Sierra Sierra and the team is excited to have him back. His accolades in 2006 include: - 4 Pole Starts - 4 Podium finishes - 1 Win - 4th place in the Championship points race - 3rd place in the Rookie of the Year race
“I only have good things to say about the team. I’m really excited about next year. It’s a very competitive series and this gives me and the team the opportunity to correct the mistakes we made this year,” said Matos.
“I’m super excited to know that Raphael will be back. We learned a lot being together this year and with the changes that we are making, I really believe that Rafa will be the guy to beat,” said Dave Empringham, Driver Development Coach for Sierra Sierra Enterprises.
Additionally, the Sierra Sierra Enterprises Team will add a second car to its line up and will begin the driver selection process in the upcoming weeks.
“We are excited to expand next year. Looking back at the success of the [2006] season, we decided it was time to return to a two car team,” commented Diane Kottke, team owner.
Given these decisions, the Sierra Sierra Enterprises team can move ahead with planning and strategizing. Future announcements about driver selection are forthcoming.
“It’s nice to be in a position to announce our commitment to the series and to Raphael at such an early stage in the season,” commented Richard Raeder, Team Manager.
