Kovalainen warns Alonso New Renault driver Heikki Kovalainen has warned world champion Fernando Alonso that he will not be intimidated and will instead fight tooth and nail with him in his rookie season.
The 25-year-old Finn is replacing Alonso at Renault this year after the Spaniard moved to McLaren, and he has already told him to keep an eye out in his mirrors for his blue and yellow car.
"I've already spoken to Fernando about next year and I've told him I'll be fighting with him," Kovalainen told the Sunday Mirror.
"He told me not to worry, he'll attack too. It's going to be healthy competition. I'm looking forward to it. Every driver in Formula One thinks they're the best and yes, I think that, too. I believe I can fight them all."
"Kimi knows I will fight with him, I don't have to tell him that,” he added. “If I did he probably wouldn't care anyway. He would just say, 'Yeah, whatever'. He's such a laid-back type of character."
"It would have been nice to race Michael so I'm a little sad about that. He's the best of all time. But next year there might be other guys and teams who are stronger and you have to fight them all, so it doesn't make a big difference."
He added: "I was against Fernando and Fisi in testing this year and matched them. They are both very quick drivers and respected by the team.
“But the team know what I can do otherwise I would not be in this situation. I know I have the 100 per cent support of Flavio and the team."
