RML Confirm Le Mans Driver Lineup RML confirmed today that Andy Wallace is to rejoin the team’s sports prototype driver line-up for the Le Mans 24 Hours this June. The announcement was made on the main stage at just after noon on the opening day of the Autosport International show at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre.
The former outright Le Mans winner (with Jaguar in 1988) took the stage alongside RML’s regular pairing of Mike Newton and Thomas Erdos, thereby reuniting the squad that took the LMP2 class win in the Le Mans 24 Hour last year. Having been victorious in the category for the past two seasons in succession, RML will look to secure the MG Lola EX264’s hat trick in 2007, and securing the talents of an experienced driver such as Andy Wallace will enhance their chances.
“It’s great to have the winning team back together again,” said a beaming Ray Mallock, team principal and founder of RML. Adam Wiseberg, Motorsport Director of AD Holdings, the team’s main sponsor, had brokered the deal. “After Andy drove with us last year he seemed happy with the arrangement. It was the first time he’d stood on the top step of the Le Mans podium since 1988, so he must have felt we had something more to offer him, and he certainly has something to offer us. It’s like a deal made in Heaven. It’s perfect,” said a very satisfied Wiseberg.
The car will again be entered as an MG-Lola EX264 with the engine manufacturer designated as AER. It will run in the now familiar striking red white and blue livery of Newton’s AD Group of Companies. Prominent amongst the visible sponsors will be NetVu Connected, Dedicated Micros, RemGuard Visual Management, FlightVu, D-Tec and Altera.
