This event will be of a very high level and will most likely be faster, bigger and have a higher attendance than any previous event. This will be the first ever Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium and will be held on the 9th of September 2007. Tickets will be available online as from mid-February onwards.

'The American interpretation of Grand Prix racing’

Racing in extremely fast single seaters on many different circuits, including some of the most famous street courses is the Champ Car World Series or the ‘The American interpretation of Grand Prix Racing’. World famous names such as Andretti, Fittipaldi, Rahal, Villeneuve, Mansell, Zanardi, Montoya and Tracy have and are still racing in this series.

The Champ Car World Series is the world class of motorsport. Racing at approximately 350 km/h with 750 bhp developed by V8-turbo engines fuelled with methanol is the pinnacle of US motorsport and it will be hard to find any better. Champ Car obviously tops the bill in the United States, where the series attracts roughly 2 million spectators a year or 150.000 fans per event, with events not only being held in the USA but also in Canada, Australia, Mexico, China and now Europe. With the new Panoz DP01 ChampCar chassis being introduced for the 2007 season, ChampCar will be one of the most competitively fought championships in auto racing.

Belgian Representation

Among the illustrious international names in the Champ Car World Series, drivers such as multiple champion Sébastien Bourdais, Paul Tracy from Canada, Englishman Justin Wilson and the Australian gun Will Power and Jan Heylen keeps Belgian hopes alive in this international series. (For several years Jan Heylen drove for Zolder Circuit under ‘Racing for Zolder’). And if we cross the border, we find Dutchman Nicky Pastorelli and German Andreas Wirth. Even former F1-Grand Prix racer Jos Verstappen is keen on getting into the Champ Car World Series.

Jan Heylen: ‘Champ Car at Circuit Zolder; this must surely be the best news Belgian motorsport has received for many years. The team at Zolder are highly professional and comprised of both permanent staff and volunteers and all are working in the right direction, not forgetting the promoter who has also proved himself time and again. With a full season of the Champ Car behind me, I think it is a fantastic thought of a Grand Prix at Zolder. For me it is like a home game, and I’m hoping for overcrowded grandstands and with a seat in the right team I believe we can get great results and give my home crowd something to cheer about. The preparations have been going on for a while now and I am pleased to have been able to help and contribute to bring this event together and now that it has been finalized we can start the countdown...’

3-Day Festival of Speed
