Indy Pro champ to stay in Indy Pro series SpeedWorks, LLC, an Indianapolis-based Indy Pro Series team, today announced the signing of Jay Howard as driver of the teams’ #44 Indy Pro Series machine. The agreement is for the first three races of the Indy Pro Series championship, with the anticipation of extending the relationship for the remainder of the year.
Howard, hailing from Basildon, England, captured the 2006 Indy Pro Series drivers’ championship by recording two pole positions, eight top five finishes, and two victories in eleven starts in his rookie season while driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. He returns to the series with the goal of repeating his championship effort from the previous year. “I am very happy for the opportunity to be back in the Indy Pro Series with Peter and the rest of the SpeedWorks crew,” said Howard. “The series has grown this year, both in participants and in events, and I think this will be the strongest year in the history of the series.”
Peter Parrott, President of SpeedWorks, is enthused about the signing of Howard. “This is a real shot in the arm for our organization,” exclaimed Parrott, who leads the first year operation into the Indy Pro Series battle. “There isn’t another driver that can do more for our team than Jay. He is an exciting, smart, and accomplished driver who expects to win, and winning races is something he knows quite well.” Parrott, referring to Howard’s racing accomplishments, “Jay has won forty percent of the races that he has competed in throughout his career, which is an astonishing accomplishment, and we want nothing more than to add to that statistic.”
The green flag drops on round one of the Indy Pro Series championship on Saturday, March 24th at Homestead-Miami Speedway. All sixteen events will be aired on ESPN2, and can be seen via live streaming on indycar.com/pro/. Additional information regarding SpeedWorks, LLC can be found at www.speedworksllc.com.
