ESPN2 To Debut New Automotive Programs
Six new automotive and motorcycle-themed programs will premiere on ESPN2 the weekend of March 31-April 1.
All part of the ESPN2 Garage block of programming, The Bidding Wars, Funkmaster Flex’s Car Wars, Hot Rod Television, Metric Revolution, P.I.P.E.S and Stacey David’s GearZ will debut on Saturday, March 31, and Sunday, April 1, with replays to air later in the week.
Designed to complement ESPN’s extensive coverage of NASCAR, IndyCar, Champ Car and NHRA racing in 2007, ESPN2 Garage is dedicated to the automotive, motorcycle and motorsports world. ESPN2 will air more than 1,100 hours of motorsports programming in 2007.
The first episode of Hot Rod TV will air at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 31, followed at 10:30 a.m. by the premiere of P.I.P.E.S. The premiere of GearZ will be at 11 a.m., followed at 11:30 a.m. by The Bidding Wars and Funkmaster Flex Car Wars debuting at noon. The next day, the debut episode of Metric Revolution will air at noon.
ESPN2 Garage will include 19 different shows that feature nearly every facet of the industry – from car auctions to custom-car programs to reality shows. The first group of programs premiered in January, while other groups of shows are scheduled to run in the third and fourth quarters of the year.
“We are excited to present these new programs for our viewers,” said Frantz Cayo, ESPN director of motorsports programming. “We believe that this blend of how-to, personalities and competition will provide absolutely compelling programming for the weekdays and weekends on ESPN2.”

The Bidding Wars (Debut March 31, 11:30 a.m.)
Focuses on car auctions from the buyers, sellers and auction officials’ points of view. These colorful characters are followed from the beginning of the auction process until the final two bidders on a car battle it out.
Funkmaster Flex's Car Wars (Debut March 31, noon ET)
Amateur customizers prepare their cars for one of Funkmaster Flex's car shows. Contestants put everything on the line (second mortgage, rent money, etc.) to win and deal with the stress and realities of competition. Flex, one of the nation’s most well-known radio personalities, helps them along.
Hot Rod Television (Debut March 31, 10 a.m. ET)
The long-running show makes its debut on ESPN2 with a production team and a new attitude as it continues to expand on the excitement, passion and lifestyle of Hot Rod magazine. With action-packed episodes mixing in the thrills of live events, candid conversations with automotive legends and celebrities plus showing the passion of car enthusiasts worldwide, the show will expand its appeal, with a focus on entertainment-based features.
Metric Revolution (Debut April 1, noon ET)
A reality series in which 22 of the nation’s top motorcycle builders take a stock metric import motorcycle and transform it into a show-stopping marvel of engineering. Each episode will follow the lives of the builders as they battle to be best in their class.
P.I.P.E.S. (Debut March 31, 10:30 a.m. ET)
Challengers modify their tuner car to race in a “king of the hill” competition, with the eventual series winner taking home a cash prize. The tuner must achieve a predetermined horsepower and fuel efficiency rating, plus run on pump gas. Viewers will gain insight on how to boost their own car’s performance and make it fuel efficient.
Stacey David’s GearZ (Debut March 31, 11 a.m. ET)
Designer/builder Stacey David, (previously on Spike’s highly rated series TRUCKS!) roars back onto the tube. This is a how-to program that will focus on customizing and building cars, trucks, hot rods, and other rides, as well as take viewers on some of those wild test drives that David is known for.
