Star Mazda standout joins Brooks Associates Brooks Associates Racing announces its newest driver, Kevin Lacroix, who will begin racing at the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland presented by Joe's Sports and Outdoor doubleheader this weekend for the Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda. Kevin will drive the #10 Uni-Select car.
Kevin Lacroix joins Champ Car Atlantic from the Star Mazda ranks. The 18-year-old French Canadian is on the open wheel fast track. He started his career in karting at age 7, where he was singled out by one of the highest ranking officers of “Stars of Karting."
He was given a scholarship at the BMW racing school in Spain and competed for the first time in open wheel at age 16, where he quickly posted six podiums and four victories. Kevin succeeded in ranking second in the Formula BMW American Championship, finishing in the top five, ten times in fourteen races! Competing in Star Mazda at age 17, he again finished second in the Championship.
“We were able to do two days of testing with Kevin last week at Firebird – quite a climate change from Montreal for the young driver – who posted quick times immediately. He’s clearly a rising star, a great addition to the ChampCar Atlantic series and we’re thrilled to have him with Brooks Associates.” Said John Brooks, team owner.
“I am going to do my first Atlantic race this weekend in Portland. ,I am very glad and consider myself very lucky to be joining a competitive team so late. Even if we didn’t do the pre-season testing, I am sure we are going to be competitive together, we had 2 good test days at Firebird and I think the team and I are ready to put all our efforts to get some podiums and battle for the win this season.” Said Kevin.
Kevin replaces Joe D’Agostino for the balance of the season. “We’re hoping to run Joe again later this season, unfortunately his budget didn’t allow him to continue at this time. He is a promising young driver with a great future in Motorsports.” said John.
