Champ Car series champion Sebastien Bourdais has crashed before setting a foot on the Gold Coast circuit.
The 28-year-old, a seasoned race track veteran and bound for Formula One in 2008, lost control of a rally car during a fun outing on the Gold Coast today.
The Subaru Impreza WRX rally car driven by Bourdais with instructor Simon Elliott in the passenger seat ended up on its roof after a low speed roll over.
Nobody was injured.
``The car just dug in and then it rolled over, in slow motion,'' a slightly embarrassed Bourdais said.
``I am fine, there is nothing wrong with me, but I just felt sorry and concerned for Simon and the whole centre here.''
Bourdais, who arrived on the Gold Coast early this morning, has the chance to cement his fourth straight Champ Car title when he races on Sunday.
The Frenchman visited the WRX Rally Experience at Pimpama with about 15 members of his Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing Team.
Several drivers took to the dirt track before Bourdais, each with an instructor in the passenger seat.
Bourdais did one lap of the gravel circuit. However as he turned a sharp, left hand corner to start the second lap the car rolled onto its roof. Goldcoast.com.au
