Martin back for Team Australia John Martin is to race for A1 Team Australia this season, the team has announced. The 24-year-old will be the team’s main driver in 2008/09 after impressing the squad in his 12 caps last year, which resulted in a popular fifth place on home soil at Eastern Creek.
"We have a lot of faith in John's skills and we think the new car will suit his style,” said A1 Team Australia’s seat holder, Alan Jones. “He has a good mental approach to the scope of this A1GP Powered by Ferrari car and the project overall.
“The team has worked very hard together to build our new racecar. The season should deliver very good racing for the fans.”
Martin has been testing the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari car at Donington Park this week, and believes the team has just as good a chance as anyone of taking championship glory.
“This season will be ultra competitive,” Martin told A1GP.com. “With everyone starting again learning the new car, I don’t think anyone is going to have an experience advantage.
“Anybody can win it this season. You wouldn’t put your house on anyone. Hopefully we can be up there and finish in the top five.”
The season begins with A1GP Zandvoort, Netherlands on 5 October.
