The new Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S proved particularly rapid during a second round of testing at the Aut¢dromo do Estoril in Portugal last week. During three days of trials, Zytek Motorsport and the Quifel-ASM team worked on the development of the LMP2 version. The result, after over 2,000kms, indicated that, despite the new ACO regulations, the latest Ginetta-Zytek is going to be an even more potent racecar than its class winning predecessor.
Quifel-ASM's regular drivers, Olivier Pla and Miquel Amaral both took turns at the wheel. Observed Olivier, "At the end of the three days I was very happy with the balance of the car. We tried a number of changes and the car is even better than I had expected. Despite the extra drag and decrease in power caused by the new regulations the team was still achieved a faster lap time with the Ginetta-Zytek than the car that it used last year. I am now looking forward to the season and showing everyone its potential."
"Everything went well," said Quifel-ASM team owner, Ant¢nio Simões. "Our drivers were very happy with the car, which went particularly well considering the handicaps that have been imposed by the new regulations. It is easy to work on and has already proved to be reliable."
According to Zytek Engineering operations director John Manchester, the primary function of the trial, which took place on February 12-14, was to test the Dunlop tires, which are to be used by the Quifel-ASM team. However, Zytek Motorsport also used the event to evaluate various aero packages and different engine configurations.
In 2009, Quifel-ASM will compete in the Le Mans Series with Miguel Amaral and Oliver Pla at the wheel. In addition, the team has submitted an entry for the Le Mans 24-hour race when the third driver will be 2003 outright winner Guy Smith. Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S and Zytek 07S cars will also be run in the LMS by Strakka Racing (LMP1), Barazi-Epsilon (LMP2) and GAC Racing (LMP2).
