Michelin becomes Official Tire Supplier Superleague Formula has teamed up with some of the top professionals in the motorsport business to ensure another successful season and deliver some spectacular racing. Michelin joins ranks with MCT, Elan Motorsport, Hewland, Brembo, Oz Racing and other great names from the world of motorsport.
Michelin has become the exclusive tire supplier to Superleague Formula for the next two race seasons, 2009 and 2010. The French company will supply its S7A/S8B tires for F/R dry and P2A/P2B tires for F/R wet to all the SF race teams for testing and competition. All teams competing in the series run identical single-seater cars and, under the agreement with Michelin, all tires will be identical in terms of composition, specification and performance. At each race weekend, Michelin will have a compound in the paddock to service the teams, and their technicians will ensure that all teams comply with the SF rules and regulations.
Michelin is currently ranked second in the global tire market. The spirit of competition has always been essential for Michelin. In its ongoing bid to develop the best road tire possible, the French group has put the competitiveness, durability and safety performance of its products to the test round the world's most demanding circuits and on the most exacting asphalt and gravel rally stages, not to mention the grueling terrain of world class rally-raids. Indeed, Michelin tires have long been a prominent feature of the sport's most important competitions on two and four wheels alike.
Superleague Formula is partnering some of the best professionals in motorsport to deliver the best possible show to fans and to make a real mark on the sporting calendar. To achieve this, SF is relying on the most renowned brands in racing, each one – like Michelin – a leader in its own area. In addition to Michelin, the list includes Menard Competition Technologies who provide the SF engines, Elan Motorsport Technologies who built the car, Hewland Engineering who supply the gearboxes, Brembo the braking system, OZ Racing the wheels, etc.
"We are pleased to be working with Michelin for the next two seasons. Michelin has an outstanding reputation in motorsport and stands for quality and reliability. It has a vast amount of experience and will enhance the competitive nature of our series. For us, it was also an important factor when deciding this year's race calendar, since our inaugural round in June will take place at Magny-Cours, near Michelin's Clermont-Ferrand headquarters," said Superleague Formula's Competition Director Robin Webb.
"We are delighted to be associated with this exciting new championship. By supporting Superleague Formula, we hope to help make it one of the top events in motorsport. Taking part in this new series will also allow us to showcase the performance of our commercially-available racing tires," said Jacques Morelli, Michelin. "We share the same values as SF. Michelin sees motorsport as an arena for its passion, and that's exactly what this new series is promoting: the fusion of two of the planet's most popular sports, capturing the love for football and the thrill of motor racing."
