Rain washes out Cup qualifying, Gordon on pole Rain has washed out Cup qualifying at Martinsville and Jeff Gordon is smiling. The points leader will start on the pole, but more importantly gets his pick of pit stall.
The rain out marks the second straight Sprint Cup qualifying session lost to rain at Martinsville. Mother Nature wiped out last October's time trials which gave then point leader Jimmie Johnson the number one starting spot. He went on to win the race.
The seven-time Martinsville winner will lead the field to the green flag Sunday flanked by Kurt Busch.
Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards round out the top five in Sunday's grid.
Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, defending race winner Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth complete the top ten starters.
