Mathiasen Motorsports withdraws from Atlantic Series Mathiasen Motorsports announced today that it has decided to withdraw from the 2009 Formula Atlantic Championship chase and we are assured that there are more to come.
Mathiasen Motorsports entered this season with high hopes of competing for the 2009 title and the million dollar prize to be awarded for the series Champion. Last season the team lead the most laps by double over the nearest competition, won the most races and earned the most poles on their way to a hard fought runner up position in the 2008 Atlantic championship.
The team and last season’s Atlantic Series “team owners of the year,” Ray and Leslie Mathiasen, worked very hard in the off season to obtain adequate funding to allow them to once again run American standout Jonathan Bomarito in their combined quest to take care of unfinished business and win the 2009 championship. However, the downturn in the economy has made this extremely difficult and has forced the team to make the hard decision to cease participating in this season’s championship with an eye on perhaps returning to racing full time at a future date.
“We would like to thank the new ownership of the Atlantic Championship Series for bringing back excitement to this historic series, the entire Atlantic Series management for their tireless efforts in maintaining the series at a globally professional and high level, all of the competitors for the great racing over the past several seasons and most importantly, all our team members who have given their maximum effort in making this such an enjoyable and successful adventure. We’ll definitely miss the competition and all the friendships we have developed over the last four years,” said Ray and Leslie Mathiasen.
