IZOD rolls out 'Fast Indy' display on Broadway
To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation's (NYSE: PVH) IZOD brand is rolling out the black-and-white checkered carpet in New York City to welcome to Macy's Herald Square a historic exhibit from the Speedway's museum.
The exhibit, "In Pursuit of FAST: 100 Years of Indy Racing, Fashion and Design, " brings to life a century of American racing through archival elements. To visually tell the history of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indianapolis 500, hundreds of original photos, graphic designs and artwork from artists such as Leroy Neiman, as well as millions of dollars in vintage cars and memorabilia, will be put on display in the store's aisles and dress its windows on Broadway. The race cars to be on display cross several generations including the famous "Miller #34" of 1928 and the 1963 "Lotus Powered by Ford," are the stars of the largest display of museum assets ever to be seen inside New York. The exhibit will run from May 14-June 3, 2009.
In addition, on May 18, just six days before the Indianapolis 500, Macy's and IZOD will welcome the 33-driver Indy 500 field to New York for their annual photo and interview opportunity. Drivers dressed in race day uniform and hailing from a multitude of countries -- including last year's Indy 500 Chase Rookie of the Year Ryan Hunter-Reay, Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Danica Patrick, Marco Andretti and Scott Dixon -- are expected to appear in the traditional Indy 500 lineup on Broadway in front of the world-famous Macy's Herald Square store. Another "star" appearance will be made by the famous Borg-Warner Trophy, awarded annually to the winner of the race.
"In Pursuit of FAST: 100 Years of Indy Racing, Fashion and Design" marks the kickoff to the national celebration of the 100th birthday of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- home to the Indy 500, the largest one-day sporting event in the world. With access to the Indy Racing League's rich archive of original art and design, IZOD's designers have created vintage, track-inspired and modern performance clothing lines to mark this historic celebration, which is available at Macy's. Macy's is providing a national stage, both in-store and through a micro-site (www.macys.com/IZOD), to highlight the partnership between these three iconic American brands -- Macy's, IZOD and the Indy Racing League.
IZOD was named the official apparel sponsor of the IndyCar Series, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Firestone Indy Lights in 2008. In addition to the consumer sportswear lines, IZOD's designers have created custom uniforms for the Indy Racing League, inspired by the heritage of American racing and designed to address the performance needs on and off the track. IZOD also sponsors 2007 Rookie of the Year and 2008 Indy 500 Chase Rookie of the Year Hunter-Reay. He is featured in this year's national IZOD advertising campaign that includes a 30-second spot, which will run during all nationally televised ABC and VERSUS IRL race broadcasts, as well as in movie theaters across the country.
The Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday, May 24 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It will be televised live on ABC.
