Bobby Caldwell Files First F2000 2010 Entry Bobby Caldwell became the first official 2010 F2000 Championship Series driver last week as he was at the front of the line when series registration opened. Caldwell returns to the #80 Van Diemen under the Caldwell Racing banner for a third F2000 season with engineering support provided by Liberty Motorsports and support from sponsors Freitag Weinhardt, Industrial Outsourcing Services and Ryan Fire Protection.
“The bang for the buck with the F2000 Series just doesn't get any better,” commented Caldwell. “The big news is that being with Liberty (Motorsports) means I'll have a full time mechanic and the same crew around me all season. It'll be the same engineering guy and data guy and I can build a relationship with them.
“Last year we changed engineers a few times and I knew what I wanted out of the car but I was talking to a different supporting cast every weekend. There will be dedicated people to specific jobs in 2010 instead of me working on the car and talking to someone different every weekend about setup stuff.”
The 25 year-old American is planning to do the winter nationals in Florida this January along with early spring testing at Putnam Park.
The team, Caldwell Racing, just put the finishing touches on their 5,000 sq. ft. shop in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Caldwell had a rough 2009 season that saw numerous DNFs and 24th in the final standings.
“It couldn't be much worse than what happened in 2009 so anything will be an improvement,” Caldwell said. “We would like to be in the top five consistently. To do that I need to get my qualifying together so I am not stuck in the middle of the pack. We had lots of problems last year being in traffic at the back. At the front I can worry about me more. It's about starting fourth, not 14th.”
Caldwell tied the knot with girlfriend Marissa during November in Key West, followed by a honeymoon cruise to the Western Caribbean.
