Ambrose promotes NASCAR down under Thanks to Marcos Ambrose’s success in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series last year, his popularity is soaring in his home country of Australia.
So is NASCAR’s.
“This year was amazing,” said Ambrose, who finished 18th in Sprint Cup points last season. “I’m bigger now in Australia than I was when I left.
“I won two championships in a row [there], but with live TV for [Cup] practice and qualifying and the races – and we’re doing TV work for some stations down there – the fans are more aware. It has gotten a big following.”
As a result, Ambrose has started his own marketing company in Australia to help introduce Australian companies to NASCAR, and vice versa.
“I think that is a huge growth for us, but on the flip side, there is even more opportunity for American sponsors and NASCAR in Australia,” he said.
His company, called Pacific Pond, is trying to help Australian race car drivers break into NASCAR and is helping introduce Australian companies to American business opportunities. There are plans to work on potential cross promotions between American and Australian sports as well.
He says NASCAR is supportive of his venture.
“I think NASCAR realized Australia can be a really good snapshot of how it could be done on an international level,” Ambrose said. “There is an Australian in the [Cup] series who has a good following down home, so … we have a lot to leverage from.
“We are going to work closely with NASCAR to create opportunities for all people down there and American businesses to be part of it. Hopefully in 12 months time, it will be better than ever.
“Hopefully, we can spread the word about racing and NASCAR. I want to spread NASCAR to Australia and I want to spread Australia to America.” NASCAR Racing News
