Boy Scouts of America U.S. Indy Car Launch
With the IZOD Indy Car® Series returning from Brazil for the first domestic race of the season, Dale Coyne Racing and the Boy Scouts of America begin their year long trail of engagement with America’s youth.
This weekend, March 26- 28, the Boy Scouts of America #19 Indy Car will debut on American soil at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
“This marks the beginning of an exciting series of planned activities both on and off the track for our nearly 3 million Scouts,” commented Chief Scouting Executive Robert Mazzuca. “It’s great to see the local councils get involved with this exciting and technologically advanced marketing venture for the Boy Scouts of America.”
Local councils in the St. Petersburg area will be involved in track activities and a special event on Friday night. Local Cub Scouts will be treated to a night at the Great Explorations Children’s Museum in St. Petersburg. On hand will be a Boy Scout show car for the Scouts to experience sitting in the cockpit of a real race car while having their photos taken.
Alex Lloyd, the driver of the BSA #19 IndyCar, will be on hand to sign autographs and answer questions about racing, driving and how he went from being a Scout to a current day Indy Car driver. Team owner Dale Coyne will also be on hand to answer questions while sharing the importance of team work in this high tech world of IndyCar racing.
The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg marks the second event of this seasons 17 race schedule. The team competed in the streets of São Paulo, Brazil two weeks ago, where a rain filled race event took its toll on many competitors.
Efforts now turn to the American swing of road course events. This event, where Dale Coyne Racing finished 3rd last year, along with races in Birmingham, Alabama and Long Beach, California kick off the early season. Following these venues is an oval race in Kansas and the famed Indianapolis 500.
Watch Alex Lloyd in the Boy Scouts of America #19 IndyCar during this weekend’s Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on ABC. LIVE broadcast begins at 3:30 P.M. Eastern Time on Sunday, March 28th.
