19-year old signs to drive Daytona Prototype Nineteen year old Professional Driver, Dion von Moltke has just signed a deal with Doran Racing that will see him driving Doran Racing’s #77 McDonalds/South African Airways/PR Newswire Ford Dallara throughout the remainder of the GRAND-AM season. The deal was negotiated and finalized through Dion’s professional driver management company, P1 Groupe. With this deal, this rising star of the GRAND-AM circuit who juggles racing with college studies, will have a permanent home with Doran Racing at the top level of GRAND-AM Racing. Of the opportunity Team Owner Kevin Doran states “Dion has shown us a lot in just a short time in the Dallara. We know he has a lot of ability and great feedback, but equally important is his interaction with the team, his co-driver Memo, media, and the fans. We know we have a good set up for Barber coming up next weekend and are looking forward to see what Dion and Memo can accomplish there.”
"I am really excited to finally have some consistency at the top level of GRAND-AM Racing, and especially to do it with Doran Racing is the result of a lot of hard work for a lot of people, not just myself,” said von Moltke. "In racing, chemistry between engineers and teammates is vital and that is one of the key advantages that I have found with Doran Racing: Memo and I have a great relationship and we have fun dealing with the challenges of a race program on any given weekend. Barber Motorsports Park is one race we are especially excited about, the Dallara works really well around there so watch out for the #77 McDonalds/South African Airways/PR Newswire Ford Dallara!"
Dion was born in Texas, and lived in Sydney and Los Angeles before moving to his current home in Miami. Following a racing career with multiple championships in karting and open wheel racing, Dion competed in 2009 in both the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and Rolex Sports Car Series. In seven rounds of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, he managed 3 wins and helped his co-driver, Mike Sweeney, to a top-10 in the season Driver Points Championship while turning many heads in the Rolex Series in both GT and DP classes. His goal is to conquer the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series in 2010. His story is even more remarkable as he balances professional racing with a full course load of studies at FIU, whilst also trying to spend as much time as he can manage in his beloved South Africa. P1 Groupe, considered the premiere motorsports management company in the United States has been guiding Dion through the ranks into becoming one of the top racers in the GRAND-AM Series.
"P1 Groupe has been a home to me throughout my Grand AM Continental Tire and Rolex career, and now they've helped me find a permanent home in the GRAND-AM Rolex Series,” said von Moltke. They have become close friends of mine and am confident they are helping me progress my career to the top levels of the sport I love so much."
P1 Groupe has worked with Dion in shaping his driving career with management, sponsorships and marketing. In finalizing the deal with Doran Racing, P1 Groupe is making sure Dion has the opportunity to take it to the next level of racing development as he stays focused on his GRAND-AM career.
“We have seen Dion and his career grow before our eyes, and I must say that this is a proud day for us as a company, not to mention as an extended part of the von Moltke family,” said Eric Burch, President of P1 Groupe. “We know that Dion will continue to grow behind the wheel, and are confident that this combination of team and driver will go a long way to continue to mold a career that will shine for years to come.”
