Magnussen to run at Infineon for Phoenix Racing Jan Magnussen, who has more than 100 worldwide road racing victories to his credit, will attempt to qualify Phoenix Racing's #09 Hendrickcars.com Chevrolet for the June 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. "We're extremely excited to have a road racer of this caliber available to drive for us at Sonoma," said James Finch, owner of Phoenix Racing. "Jan has tested Sprint Cup cars in the past, and his résumé speaks for itself. He will give us an opportunity to not only qualify well, but run up front and compete."
A native of Denmark, Magnussen's experience includes starts in Formula 1, IndyCar, CART, Grand Am and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). The 36-year-old driver has competed in some of the most prestigious events in motor sports, including wins at Le Mans, Sebring and Petit Le Mans. A General Motors factory driver, Magnussen is a three-time world karting champion, a British Formula 3 champion (1994) and earned the ALMS title with six race wins in 2008. He is a four-time Le Mans class winner for Corvette Racing.
"It's no secret that NASCAR has been a goal of mine, and I'm very appreciative of the opportunity Phoenix Racing is providing," Magnussen said. "Through my relationship with GM, I've had the chance test for Hendrick Motorsports, so I'm comfortable in the Sprint Cup cars and understand what to expect. I'm quite familiar with the racetrack and confident in my ability to compete at a high level. It will be an exciting weekend, and I look forward to the entire experience." Phoenix Racing
